Good Luck, Shamorie...
Shamorie gave us lots of thrills and some unbelievable games where he took over and just willed us to the win (Duke last year & VCU this year come to mind first but clearly there were many more). I wish him all the best and believe that, especially in today's NBA gdame, he has a shot to catch on with a team and have an NBA career. Will certainly root for him to do well wherever his career takes him.
One of the best St. John’s players of the past 20 years for sure.
Shamorie provided some magical moments for us diehards to savor.
All the best to him, indeed.
His 3 pointer to sink Duke falling away off-balance at MSG is the greatest shot I've ever seen a SJ player make in person or on TV. Still have the ticket stub and plan on framing it with a cool picture. Thank you Shamorie...it takes balls to stay home and take the unconventional route in the NYC area these days. Loyal kid that wanted to rep his city. Best of luck at next level.
Granted it was a Duke game but we were 0-11 in conference play so it fails to even make my top 20.

Ron Rowan
Walter Berry jumper in regulation to force overtime against Cuse at Garden in ‘85
Marco Baldi against Wichita St. in 1st round NCAA tournament
And about 5 Boo Harvey game winners are way higher in my mind to name a few

We have had some great Players from Brooklyn and many Legends from the Borough of Church’s . Tony Jackson , Alan Seiden , Mel Davis , Mark Jackson , Sonny Dove and the best of them all, ever, Chris Mullin. To me and likely many real St John’s Alums and fans , Shamorie Ponds walks among that group and plays on that Team . He has given us great Basketball for 3 years and has almost single handedly brought us to a better place . For the last 2 years he has had to be both the PG and SG and has performed at a level that has earned admiration from near everyone . Sure , he could have had a better supporting cast but , that doesn’t diminish his outstanding accomplishments . If this was his last game wearing the Red and White , so be it and God Speed Shamorie . He truly walks among the Kings of Brooklyn and into St John’s history . We will miss you and the thrills you provided .

I'd also add George Johnson (1974-1978) to that list of great Brooklyn born Johnnies.

Shamorie, You brought us lots of exciting moments during your tenure at St John's
Thanks for coming here and believing in Coach Mullin's vision for the program
Best of luck in all that you do in the future

I thank Shamorie for the time he spent here and the thrills he provided. I wish him all best moving forward. However, with all due respect, he is not the same category as the very best who played here: Mullin, Berry, Davis, Jackson, Sealy, Artest,, Johnson, etc. Those guys were great college players. Pretty sure all were first or second team AAs. In Mullin and Berry’s case, also Big East and National POY award winners. Ponds was a very good college player IMO.

Is there any buzz about Myles Powell entering the NBA draft? He's a junior. I ask because he is at least as good as Ponds.

Announcers during the season maintained he was coming back.

Looks like the better NBA prospect right now.

Two questions, do you have to be a "real alum" to be a real fan?

Do you realize the "better place" shamorie and your man Chris brought us to is almost to the peaks of Lavin's last season, short a couple of conference wins?

Mixed feelings because of team chemistry concerns and Ponds seeming impatience to go pro and possible boredom with being in college and the college game. Fortunately not my decision I'm good either way because we still need more players anyway.
No mixed feelings for me - like Jakaar Sampson, Ponds played his last season for him, not the team and it showed. I will always look at him in that light. Very, very talented offensive player, no question but another example of the “me, me, me over us” world. I differ with the posts saying Ponds played hurt, I think he stopped going hard to the hole in fear of getting injured. Absolutely no way to know, so only my opinion. But his change in game certainly affected team chemistry, that I have heard first hand from several of the people best equipped to know, players. I wish him luck, a good person from all I have heard, but as I have posted before, in complete hindsight, I wish he had left last year.

I don't understand how our staff allows free reigns for the kids when it comes to social media. This NBA stuff does not work in college.
You know what’s good for recruiting? When your star player for the past 3 years tweets this
He must have deleted it, it's not there anymore.

Who is advising him? Does he think this makes him look good to NBA scouts? If he actually made an NBA roster--which I predict he won't--and gets crapped all over for bad play is he going to tweet "Yo, Knicks fans are the worst!" Geez.

He’s probably frustrated. But a dumb thing to tweet nevertheless. The fans are also frustrated and at times may say unflattering things. Glad he chose SJU. Don’t want to think how bad we would have been without him.
