@Georgetown, Tue., Jan. 28 , 6:30p, FS-1

I watched parts of the Ed Cooley presser, he gave all the credit in the world to us and our defensive clinic, but of course, Cooley being Cooley, had to whine about them playing very recently and us have a week's bye. Said the BE admin has to change that. Huge disadvantage for them.
Big Ed also will lose Sorber and Peavy to pros and has a roster challenge awaiting. Not making Dance won’t be a positive in that process either.

Was saying this morning to a co-worker who asked that Georgetown needs to keep Sorber and Peavy and add a disciplined, low-turnover PG in the portal. Throw in Fielder and Mack and that would be a good team next year. A Hassan Diarra clone is about all they would need for PG.

I do not think either Sorber or Peavy is ready but I can see an NBA team drafting Sorber on potential. I think he should come back, he reminds me of the center from Creighton 6 year ago or so who had a ton of ability but came out too soon and washed out of the league. Another year would do Sorber good from a basketball development standpoint. Also he got hurt in both games against us, adding some physical strength and maturity would help him.

Justin Patton

Wilcher’s shots looked good…just not falling. Shoot right through this slump.

Prey had a really nice reverse layup. I didn’t know he had that in the toolbox. He will be driving at will next year. 3 assists too (all to Vince?).

Glover can really shoot it, but, man, they were salivating when he took it over half court.
So true ! You can see it ,he is right on target and it seems that the more
opportunity he gets the more his true talent will surface,
He dribbles and passes beautifully also.
Coach see this also so all appears promising.

Peavy is a 5th year senior. He's gone.
Sorber could be a first round pick...he's competent on the perimeter already and has a lot of potential.

Yes, listened to his presser also, definitely gave alot of credit to St. John's defense but he did say twice that the opposing team has a long layoff

Witcher gets a lot of bad ink but he has made significant progress. He has warts, weak handle, poor three point shooting, but this is correctable.

He is a good shooter. Foul shoots above 80 pct. The threes will drop.

His overall game is a plus. Excellent defender, had five steals and five assists and only two turns. Such an improvement from last year. Will be a significant asser next year.

LMF Rapid Reaction

1. Credit Pitino for having an airtight plan on both ends of the floor AND getting the team to execute it flawlessly (at least for a half). GT for the rematch after 6 days to prepare was like watching Bill Belichick with 2 weeks to prepare for a rookie QB. Could not have executed better against the 2-3 zone: wings pull the corner bigs up, ball to the FT line, hit the cutter to the rim. Gorgeous. Defensively the passes to the post were eliminated, shooters were closed out, just suffocating.

2. I'm not going to spend a lot of time killing Glover and Ayo but until they got into the game I thought we had a chance to hold GT to single digits in the first half. I don't think Ayo reappeared after he mistakenly thought he was a player, took a shot and got benched. Glover did reappear but may have to change his name to Jai_en because his freshman D may be even worse than Wilcher's freshman D was.

3. Speaking of Wilcher, I love the kid and think people are overly down on his game BUT the late second half bonehead plays have got to stop. Becoming a pattern and not a good one.

4. SJU v Marquette is an interesting matchup. Marquette can shoot but is very vulnerable inside. I think we defend the perimeter well enough for our paint dominance to carry the day. I hesitate to say they're a good matchup for us, but it does feel that way - the X-factor is that Kam Jones is the best player in the league (different from the MVP, I'd give that to Kalkbrenner), and if he goes off it is what it is. Hopefully we have Smith back for that game because he may be our best bet to keep up with Jones.

5. After Providence we will find out who this team is. Thus far they are are a team that thus far has (1) lost close games to better teams (or better teams at the time); (2) won close games against good-but-unranked teams; and (3) stomped less-good teams. To me that makes you a borderline top-25 team; what has set them apart is that they have not lost ANY of the latter two type of games, and that is unusual. But taking at least 2 from Marquette and UConn would really solidify their place as a top-15 team (and NCAA seeding would presumably follow).
I agree with your third point re: Wilcher.

Just watched the game and OMG that first half! I don't ever recall a St. John's team being that dominant for a half.

The defense was ridiculously good both before and after half-time. Unfortunately the offense got lost for the second half.

Honestly, I don't care that the offense floundered because the defense held up. As bad as the offense was we still won by 25 and held them to 41 points for the game.

Keep stacking wins boys! I don't care how they come, just keep getting them!

Just an incredible run so far this season! So refreshing to be in top 3 for a while discussing possible BEC instead of 5th and hoping for magical run that never materialized. So glad admin FINALLY listened to fans begging for Pitino. We knew he was one of the only coaches who could take us from rags to riches almost immediately. My only complaint is that we didn’t hire him 5 yrs sooner. This success is crucial to get the best transfers & eventually be an attractive top job for the next coach. We will learn a LOT from the 4 against Marq & UConn. Feel like we’re due for at least 2 wins in any variety there.

Georgetown is averaging 5,239 a game (25% capacity). Tickets can be had for as low as $4 for its next home game.

It's not quite DePaul yet, but years of neglect of the fan base takes its toll.
I think even during our very lean Norm years with Curtis Johnson, et al. and Lavin, Anderson and Chris Mullin's down years, we did better than 5,239 per game in attendance
