Georgetown (MSG), Tue., Jan. 14 , 7:30p, PEACOCK

I know this is a Georgetown game thread but figured I would post this here.

We all have our favorite players. If anyone reads my posts, Ponds was one of them. Wilcher is another. Maybe he won't ever get to my expectations but I feel like he is on the cusp of becoming so much better. I think he lacks confidence and like Ponds has some maturity issues. They manifest themselves in very different ways though. If Wilcher can figure it out he can help us more than he has to date. Werdann was another one of my favorites who never reached the potential I was hoping for.
Another poster on the site said that Sim’s dad kept yelling at him to score the ball. I hope Sim isn’t hearing that. Such crap from a parent in the stands not only puts a lot of pressure on a player but disrupts what the team is trying to do. In my coaching days I’ve seen more than a few players get screwed up by this. Pitino himself has already stated that there are a few parents who have too much to say. This may account for some of Wilcher’s shooting issues
Well was he saying “score it” or “shoot it”? 😂
Well since one is dependent on the other, I assume he meant both. 😎👍

Time to assign one staff member, even an intern if need be to lead the charge to contact/honor/involve past players in a structured and continuous manner. Am sure our valued poster, Alumni Hall, could offer some history and suggestions going forward. As I’ve noted a few times, Nova does a great job with that via events, social media and honoring players at games.

Would have thought this would fall under Red/White Club &/or Alumni Relations.

At some schools, as I understand it, it is a task assigned to a staff member of the Athletic Department. (among other duties).
I would think there would some crossover between the athletic department and alumni relations. To be fair I have no idea how this is structured at St. John.

Yes, I just didn't want folks to get down when they remember back on how that team totally fell apart from that point forward.
Gotcha, original point being Tierney stated the 98-99 team was the last to go 15-3 which is false.

They both need to get minutes (Prey should get more) and be able to keep Zuby fresh or go a big set with both more often.
Vince will have his good and bad moments this year. We saw some good moments in other BE games and he had a tough one last night, where he missed a number of makeable layups and wasn't able to impact the defensive/offensive glass. He can definitely be a huge factor on Saturday though.

I was physically and emotionally exhausted after last night's game.
If St. John's basketball is turned into a movie, it should be named "No Game for Old Men".
At one point in the first half we missed 10 straight scoring attempts.....a couple of which were layups.
Georgetown is going to be a difficult opponent if Sorber stays out of foul trouble but I am in the minority when I say that I do not see an NBA first rounder yet.
The win was impressive when you consider the vacuum at the PG with Smith injured.
In the first half neither KR or Sim were effective in running the team.
Luckily luck was on our side in the second half but if we continue to play erratically, lady luck will eventually bite this team on the ass.

I don’t think luck in the 2nd half is what won that game. Team came out and owned the boards (a complete reversal of 1st half no show), repeatedly turned GTown over, and held them to 21 points in the 2nd half.

We also hit just enough timely 3’s and got strong play from Scott, Luis, Richmond, and Wilcher to close the game out.

We have been a dominant second half team in most games where our coaching adjustments, physical conditioning, and mental toughness give us a decided edge.
