Georgetown game

So Sheed isn't allowed to talk to the media.

But Dom has the green light to supply bulletin board material?

SMH

Free reign to a walking technical foul...just like has on the court. He's the last kid that I would let talk to the media. He says Gtown hits you when you run through lane. When was the last time Dom Pointer ran through lane? He says he doesn't mind because he likes contact. Then why does he go bizerk every time he is touched, and why doesn't he ever initiate contact on the glass or fighting through screens? I'm tired of this kid self-promoting to make people believe he is a tough blue collar player. He's a finesse player.
You are always such a positive poster about the team, but you really dis-like Dom's game huh? I want to see him poster-ize someone tonight :cheer:

I am a big effort guy. I love guys that play physical, get dirty, and do the little things--guys like Postell and Grant. Dom had me fooled for a while. He's a freak athlete and he says the things you want to hear from a blue collar guy, but he does the exact opposite on the court. He's a pro at hamming it up for the camera by playing his man chest to chest 35 feet from the basket, slapping the ground, pounding his chest, clapping...until his man gets him by a step or a screen comes his way...at that point he stands straight up and either runs around the screen or lets his man blow by him to go for the backside block. It's lazy. It's not physical at all. Stay low...fight through a damn screen...try to actually recover on defense instead of letting your man by you and hoping you can get bailed out by a last second block. He gives up more layups than anyone on the team.

I see offensive rebounding as the best indicator of hustle...especially for forwards. Dom is nonexistent on the glass. He doesn't even pretend to try. He is holding this team back more than anyone realizes. Look at the production every top ten team gets from the SF position. Every single team in the top ten either has a SG or SF averaging 1.5-3.1 offensive rebounds per game and a forward shooting 35% or higher from three. He shoots 11% from three, he has a horrible handle, he is not even defended anymore and makes it impossible for the team to space the floor properly. He's an automatic 1-2 goaltends per game and you can write him down for 1-2 second half turnovers and a horribly timed foul. The two things that make it so much harder to accept are his elite athletic gifts and the fact that he's never covered or boxed out. He has a clear path to follow every shot. Swap Dom out with Postell, a guy who followed EVERYTHING, and this would be a top 15 team. Hell, swap him for Paris Horne, and we'd have 20 wins and a top 25 ranking.

Every five or six games Dom goes crazy and looks amazing. Today might be one of those days, but they are few and far between.

I get spasms when DOM attempts to lead the break down court. His handle is frightening, for our team.. I would rather have Greene in there but, not to masquerade as a PG, because he can hit the occasional J . Dom is not a outside shooter. And, misses a lot of bunnies too. GREENE should not be controlling the ball, even when Jordan is on the bench, get Branch in there for a few minutes.

I'm also not enamored of his defense because its a phony defense, lots of posturing but, little substance. Most Players get past him off the dribble, quite easily. And, as Marillac says, where is Dom getting rebounds?

I have an idea... just for tonight's game lets actually say positive things about our guys on this board. Even if you don't mean them. Let's give the team all of the good vibes and karma that we can give them.

We Are...St. John's
Lets Go Redmen

Just watched the end of the Hall win again, Dom had a good take to the rim, got fouled hit both free throws - then next possession( may have got away with a travel) but found Sampson for a dunk. Also intercepted the final pass .

And we are ripping one of our guys in the midst of a hot streak why?

He definitely traveled on that play. Even the sportscasters commented on it during the highlights. Before he does something very good he almost always travels or badly looses the handle. He gets away with a lot due to his elite athleticism, but SH is a team that tries to make the game ugly and ugly is Dom's game. I will say this about Dom...he has terrific vision. He also did have two very nice drives against SH. I don't mind him taking it once in a while at all if he has the angle. I really don't even mind him shooting the occasional jumper if he's wide open and there is more than 15 mins left in the game. He has a good jump stop and control in the lane. His problem is his third dribble is chest high and his fourth dribble is up to his chin if he doesn't travel or bounce it off his foot first. He is also has an unusually long stride which is probably tough to time. He should be limited to two...at most...three dribbles.

What doesn't jump out at you from the SH game is how many drives did Jordan not have the chance to take, because Dom's man was cheating so far away from him. How many offensive rebounds did we not get because he was in the game? How many times did their guards and forwards leak out because they don't have to worry about a menacing 6'5 ridiculous athlete athlete skying in for rebounds? How many rebounds did Dom's man take from others because he doesn't have to box Dom out? How many plays couldn't be properly executed because of they couldn't space the foorl? How much harder was it for Harrison to get open? Add that to the four fouls, the three turnovers, the goal tending calls on balls that weren't going in, the easy layups given up on defense.

Of course I fully expect Dom to go for 13,8, and 6 now after these posts.

So Dom gave the Hoyas something to motivate themselves. Now he, and the team, has to go out and back it up by winning. I don't have a problem with that. I only have a problem if they give a lackluster effort.

If you watch closely, ref was signaling that the ball was knocked away by a defender - hence no travel call

I imagine you are still investigating but when does Dom get blamed for Benghazi? Hillary could use the scapegoat.

I agree with most of this, but what are the other options? They are mostly Sanchez or Greene IV. Greene IV obviously can score better but is not as long or as athletic as Dom on defense. Sanchez is like a box of chocolates(you never know what you are going to get). I think it is all situational and you hope for the best.

You could play branch more. Like 20 minutes a game. You could also give hooper a solid five minutes every game.

I did notice, he clapped his hand as to say the ball was touched.

Who gives a s* if Dom gave them something to motivate them.
The REDMEN should be motivated to play them, because every damn game these kids played them, they got smacked the hell up.

It time to smack back. Show them what SJU is all about.

Anybody gathering before the game? Stout? Thirsty fan?

I'm on my 4th drink at my house prior to taking the train in- does that count
Damn are you even going to make it to game time ? :)

:cheer: Hell yeah, it's like a football Sunday to me, start the engine at 1 pm. :)
Haaaa. Damn I'm getting old. My pre gaming which I think has only been once or twice this year is usually limited to 1 or 2 beers max. I need to save room for a bronx pale ale inside msg :)
