Georgetown 1st Game

K I am going. Philly meeting Tuesday afternoon w a hard stop at 3. This should be fun.

if you are going to go to the game safe trip because anything over 2 inches of snow in maryland turns to chaos

You are so right; I am currently in southern Maryland and it took me 40 minutes to go the 3.5 miles from the hotel to the office. Comical really; thank God for Sirius

..and Depends.

First time in a while I'm not thinking big game/must in.

but lose and the next game will be. Latest line is +6

Win or lose tonight, Seton Hall Is a MUST win

Hell, the next three at home is must wins. It's our court and we're not gonna allow you to beat us on our court. Will it be hard? Of course, would it suppose to be easy? no.
Bottom line, JUST PROTECT HOME COURT

RPI Forecast gives us a 29% chance of winning tonight. The remaining games:

@ GTown 29%
Vs. SHU 72% (I think it'd be higher since this doesn't account to the suspension)
Vs. Xavier 53%
Vs. GTown 53%
@ Marq 57%
@ Nova 15%

Meaning, this and the Nova games are the only two they don't favor us in. However, almost all of the games they favor us in are by a very small amount.

The SHU game is a must win. The game tonight isn't but it'd be a huge, huge help.

We need, at an absolute minimum to go 2-4 for any chance at an at large (counting the tournament). If we don't go 2-4 that means we'd go 1-5 or 0-6 and have no business dancing. Of course, 3-3 would be a lot better and 4-2 would lock us in.

So they are basically saying Gtown has a huge home court advantage and we basically have none at MSG.

It doesn't matter what they think, here's my saying:

STREAKS ARE MEANT TO BE SNAPPED.

Getting tired of hearing how invincable they are at home against us. We better bring it hard core to them and open up a can of whoop ass on them.
Really want this game tonight.

Tonight isn't a must win, because the general consensus was we needed to go 1-1 on this road trip. However, a win would be so huge to our chances and a loss puts us right back on the bubble.

It's nice to finally be playing a game that isn't a must win but it'll just create more work later on if we lose.

I hope to be heading into the Nova game with at least 3 wins, meaning we need to go 3-2 before then.

Never thought I'd say this but if Phil Greene is shooting well, we have a chance.

He has been our zone buster and we should see a heavy dose of it.

I think he's the X-factor.

I'd put Joey on Joshua and Obekpa on Hopkins at trhe start.
Have him hack Joshua maybe even for the first 8minutes. Joey with his body can lean in him and give him some hard fouls. Then maybe put Amar on him for more hard fouls.
On offense run run run, he can't keep up, though he'll try.

Maybe in the last 8minutes he'll be exhausted then you put CO on him.

Did you see how successful Joey was in 2 minutes against Stainbrook?

Occasionally, feed the post (Obekpa), as well. Josh Smith will probably only play about 20-23 minutes, and we may can decrease those numbers, if we give Obekpa the ball a few times on the blocks. Smith likes to reach, and usually, will pick up about two cheap fouls in the process.

Don't have any faith in a game plan that includes "Joey". No offense but if Lavin ever quits or gets fired I will not be recommending you as his successor. :)

I like the idea of getting the ball inside to CO to draw some fouls. In general, I think that we should feed him more.

But I think on D you have to double Josh Smith early, as in anticipate the entry pass. it almost doesn't matter who his main matchup is to some extent.
His initial position can't be on the low block or we're f&cked. Make him establish position further out, and trap him towards the baseline.

I've said it before.. Smith is not the big problem. Smith-Rivera is the key. If he roams free and scores, everything opens up inside. Contain him & I think we win.

You took the words out of my mouth, Desco. Make Smith set up further out. We started doing that to Okafor, as the game went on versus Duke. We can't allow Smith to set up shop in the paint, as he's practically automatic once he gets it down there.

Double him, and make him give it up. Or, force him to put it on the floor with a couple of bounces, and come in for the steal. I've seen some teams utilizing such defenses on him in the past few weeks. He's not gonna play much, but we can't allow him to put his stamp on the game whenever he's in there.

This will probably be correct in the end. Contain Smith-Rivera. I'd put Pointer or Jordan on him whenever we go man. Make sure where he is at all times in zone.
