Fox Sports 1 Considering Their Own "Big Monday"

If you subscribe to Cablevision (now Optimum), you may be a bit disappointed to hear this news
I just spoke with a customer service representative about the new stations
The good news is that you will get Fox Sports 1 at no additional cost
However, in order to get Fox Sports 2, you must either subscribe to the "Gold" (highest) package or purchase a special sports package
This is total BS, considering Cablevision recently added a $2.98/month surcharge to everyone's bill to cover their additional sports programming costs

I remember posting "I'm surprised Cablevision isn't holding out on us". Well, here it is...Cablevision holding out on us (50% of FSN at least). Just ridiculous. But sadly not surprising in the least.

Thats the case right now. Currently Fuel is only in about 30M homes. The focus is on FS1 out of the gate and they need to sure up those new rates before they start charging a new price for FS2 to carriers. As for the sports package I never understood sports fans who dont like having to pay an extra 5-10 a month for a sports package. That being said I'm the first one who thinks there should be a la carte cable systems but still. Everyone loves movies but you don't get HBO for free.

Great news indeed. Fox is not playing around at all...very aggressive I love it. Every major event they get is just another great opportunity to have Big East basketball commercials catch some more eyes out there.

Well, there's not going to be any BE basketball commercials during major USGA events but generally the better the network offerings the better for the BE, that is true.

Why not?

Because there's no college basketball advertising in May through August.

They just had the FS1 commercial with SJU/G'Town basketball in it during the MLB All Star Game.

That wasn't a NBE commercial it was a FS1 commercial. That's not semantics. The commercial you speak of had one message, FS1 will cover a lot of sports. NBE basketball was just one small part of it. The benefit to the NBE was minimal.

Not minimal when you have it shown during the MLB ASG. I know tons of people who saw that commercial, many of whom came up to me at work and said "Hey, you see that commercial? St. John's was in it". Not saying that's the bar for success, but it was definitely seen by many. Even if it's just the Big East featured in a small part, at least it's a part. It still markets the league.

I stand by my assertion that there won't be any BE basketball commercials during USGA events. By the summer of 15 when this kicks in FS1 will be advertising upcoming events, not running generic brand ads.

From Sports Business Journal-

Comcast, Cablevision, Charter, Cox, Verizon, AT&T and Suddenlink -- distributors that account for nearly 45 million subscribers -- have committed to carry FS1 on its Aug. 17 launch. That leaves DirecTV, Dish Network, Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks -- accounting for more than 47 million subscribers -- as the distributors that do not have deals in place for FS1 yet even though its launch date is just five days away. All four distributors are in active negotiations for FS1, sources say. (Time Warner Cable handles programming negotiations for Bright House.) When Fox announced the channel earlier this year, it said it planned to launch FS1 into 90 million homes.

Time Warner is not showing CBS right now.

Notice the FS1 is coming ads behind the plate on the Yankee telecast tonight. Fox of course owns a considerable portion of YES as well as many other regional nets. Nice promotion.

They also have a big banner in left-center on the wall at Citi Field which you don't see often for TV networks.

At 8am my FIOS listings still showed the Speed listings but by 11am they were show FS1. Must admit I didn't turn it on to see what they were actually showing at 8am. Too busy watching EPL on NBCSports. It'll be interesting to see if there is actual competition in the 24 hour sports network universe in a year.

CBS recently promoted Greg Anthony to the games and demoted Clark Kellogg to the studio. Clark's quotes afterwards weren't exactly accepting you can say. Wouldn't be shocked if he shakes loose and Fox takes a run at him.
