No point in getting upset about losing to Fordham. Gotta move on and get better against St Francis. This is a lost year in terms of results but hopefully we start getting more healthy and see guys progress.. Big things on the horizon, just gotta wait for it to come to fruition.
Early in Jim Calhoun's tenure at Uconn he complained to Louie about leaving his starters in too long in a 30 point SJU blowout victory and Louie said "Hey, I can only coach one team at a time. You coach your team and I'll coach mine". (In a raspy voice of course).

I've heard college coaches explain that they call timeouts at the end of games that aren't very close because young players need to be coached the entire game. He was probably reminding them not to be sloppy, and to keep working hard on defense and offense.
If this was Syracuse not emptying the bench at the end of the game vs. SJU I'd have a bigger problem than Fordham doing it. Neubauer is trying to build a winning program there, and a double digit win vs. even a depleted SJU means something to that program. I'm sure he was aware that we played hard and well the entire 2nd half vs. Indiana, and wanted to keep a safe lead. If it matters (and it doesn't) Fordham used their bench for the exact same number of minutes as SJU - 57 - for the game. If Mullin really did lecture Neubauer after the game, I appreciate his fire, but perhaps a mental note a few years from now to keep his foot on Fordham's throat when we are an NCAA bound team.
I don't see a real purpose in garbage time, other than to get some fannies off the bench. It's often horrible, sloppy basketball. Even when guys play well in garbage time, it's often because they are beneficiaries of chaotic play. No one improves in garbage time. Calling off the dogs in a 35 point win is good sportsmanship, but in college with a short 3 point line, a 20 pt lead is just 7 possessions. In Lavin's 1st year, a 20 pt second half lead at Fordham evaporated quickly when Fordham rained 3's. (Fordham fans stormed the court after they won) Maybe it's better that your subs play the final minutes vs. the A team, and not the C team.
In any event, just as SJUs program is headed in the right direction, hope the same for Fordham. They've been down too long.
As a youth league coach, I often call time outs that confuse the other coach. However, they are teaching moments and I would never second guess another coach for doing the same. I want Mullin to be intense but this anger seems more like frustration. This is coming from someone who can get way too excited at times. These losses need to be mental notes but not explosions.

Honestly I am only concerned about stats like this. We know that this team is lacking a true PG and that they were going to be offensively challenged unless someone happens to get a hot hand on a given night. But this is defense...this is what i want to see fixed before theseason ends.

From behind bench, I noticed St. Jean frequently getting angry & animated about the defensive lapses particularly. The more I see him, the more I appreciate his passion & ability.
Met LoVett briefly outside arena prior to game, very nice kid.
Panther had better seats than me.
I gave my Fordham press guide to a Fordham fan breaking my chops on way out. He was stunned, laughed & thanked me. May try this with my wife.

I noticed that also, their coach had a puzzled look afterwards. A few minutes earlier, Mullin was complaining to the ref about him, maybe being out of the coaching box. As for post-game, he may have been mad about the T/O Fordham called after they went up by 19 with about a minute to go. But I'm just guessing.

What is happening is what everyone thought (knew) would happen. You need players to compete plain and simple; no secret there. No coaching, no strategy, no teaching is going to overcome the fact that we don't have D1 level players yet. We don't have anyone other than Balamou who can even break a defender down and make the defense rotate. Mussini, and this is no knock at all, cannot even beat a defender enough to create passing angles to initiate the offense. He is not a point guard, never was, never was intended to be and I applaud his effort in playing point for the first time at this level. TIS talked about no back doors, we couldn't even make the first pass to the wing to start the offense never mind create passing lanes for back doors. As for the criticism on defense, defense even more than offense needs 5 guys working in unison, instinctively, immediately. We don't have the athletes nor the experience right now to do that. The hope was Williams and Johnson, along with Mvouika, could step in and provide leadership and consistent play especially to start the season. Williams has been hurt, Johnson just terrible (sorry, no other way to say it), and Mvouika has been about what was expected; there was a reason he was a substitute at the mid-major level so I think he has played just fine. Fordham has talent, is playing well, shot very well and end of story.
Damn... Can't wait for the rematch next year

Fordham is in a tough spot when it comes to starting extra stuff with us. They need to play us, we have absolutely no need to play them. I wouldn't expect a verbal sparring match between their coach and Mullin. What's done is done. It's a nice game to play each year and gave the young guys a nice introduction to playing on the road but we could easily pull the plug on the series and lose nothing at all. Fordham knows that.
Nice atmosphere at game last night although I could've done without the guy in the front row flipping off our bench with both hands after every timeout.
But man their fans are delusional on their forum. Bashing our school, bashing our coach, a lot of crowing for a school that's gotten destroyed by us consistently for the last 5 years. Not a good look for a school that hasn't been a blip on the national basketball radar in half a century. As someone who is more familiar with the Fordham Athletic department than most, Fordham fans should just enjoy the win and not sling any mud.
