Fordham Game

Good win. Team has grown up a lot. Being very patient on offense settling for open looks.

Very disappointing antics by CO. Seems like every game we're getting into some unnecessary scrum.

Don't know what CO is trying to prove by shoving players like he does. But I did think the first tech was on D'Angelo, not CO.

The 2nd TO was totally bogus. I just watched a replay and did not see anything that warranted a technical. All I see is Chris trying to hold back a Ram player during a dead ball situation. Ref over-reacted and the team responded by giving Fordham a well deserved ass whooping.

I was at the game and had a good view of the 2nd tech. It was a good call. Chris pushed the Ram player. On may occasions he will go in looking like the "peacemaker' and then starts pushing people. The second Tech was a Tech.

Not to excuse Obekpa's stupid choices but this was coming for a couple of plays. The play before the T, O hit the other kid in the head and he hit O in the ribs with an elbow. The refs were oblivious. Then the play they reviewed the same kid obviously PUNCHED DH in the gut, just as obvious that he did it as a quick jab hold his arms down low intentionally so the refs couldn't see it. Had the refs actually looked at the replay it was clear. He should have been ejected. If that kid was on my team I'd bench him for a game regardless of the refs calling it or not, but maybe good guy Pecora was encouraging that crap. He got Obekpa out like he wanted but just pissed off our guys.

Agree with you, but other much better teams are going to try to do the same thing to CO. He's gotta control himself. We can't afford to lose him against better teams.

Perhaps Pecora thought he was a hockey coach in the 1970's.

really enjoyable brand of basketball we are playing. The ball movement is maybe the best we have had with this group

When the kids catch the ball they don't hang on to it. They throw bullets back out or over to the open man. Keeps other D's on their toes.

Great to watch with low to's today.

I thought we were going to be in trouble when Chris got t'd up

If Rysheed ups his game like this we are going to be real dangerous

And their defense is more fun to watch. Keeping fingers crossed they stay healthy.

I suggest you replay the "original" foul in the sequence. Obekpa, Harrison and the Fordham player are all reaching for the ball as the three are sandwiched in front of the Fordham bench. The Fordham player is chesting D'Lo and Chris "pulls" the player away from D'Lo. Since it was a dead ball and play had stopped, the Ref overreacted. This clearly a Homer POV, and nothing you can say will convince me otherwise. :p

Just watched a replay of the game. It have may have been "only" Fordham, but the pressure D we brought approx minutes 18-12 in the second half was unreal. Often the Rams struggled just to get it to mid court. With 5 guards on the floor, we were switching like crazy and swarming them like angry bees.

Some of the ball movement was excellent and while Branch may not have scored his ball handling / passing was beyond reproach.

Just gotta say before I turn in for the night that this game included one of the best-played stretches of basketball I've seen by a St. John's team in years. True, it was against an inferior Fordham team, but the passion, the selflessness, and the smarts shown by these kids was a testament to them, to their maturity, to their character, and -- horror of horrors! -- to the coaching staff.

Nice complete game by the team. Impressed with all the charges we took(Branch) and Rysheed's jump shot. We were machines for a good stretch there with our defense and run outs.

With essentially the same roster....where was this team last year?

Minus Sanchez and Samson, there's a camaraderie and cohesiveness on this year's team that was lacking last year.

Gotta give Marillac some credit where it is due man.

For?

Everything that he predicted is happening before our eyes, and it just so happens everyone killed him for that prediction. That post you said about sanczhes and Sampson he said a million times during preseason

So did I and lots of other people, only not repetitively. There have also been tons of outlandishly ridiculous predictions by Marillac, like the ones about Balamou and Jones being impact players this year. The fact is that in spite of my feelings about lavin, I said from the get go that if this team came together that they had a good chance of making the tourny. While its still early, and the tough part of the schedule is yet to come, they have played incredible ball so far and I would be surprised if they don't continue to play well and and make the tourny. Appreciate the Marillac suggestion, but think I'll give myself credit ;)

I'll take Balamou--although I said I doubt he gets any PT this year--but please don't put Jones on me. You'd be hard-pressed to find a bigger critic of Jones. I am not a not a fan of what I've seen from Balamou this year. He is (understandably) timid and those kinds of guys lose games for you. He's just trying to not get yanked when he's out there. He has no confidence.

I've been calling for Dom to play the four for four (just wanted to write that) years now. I was ridiculed for the addition by subtraction comment about Sampson. Credit is not what is important...just hoping fans will choose the optimistic outlook once in a while. We have a good team, I am writing in first person, let's just be positive.

jesus can you at least talk in the third person once if you are going to write this much ?

Like the little PG on Fordham who was like a deer in headlights when he saw a full court press. Then proceeded to shoot an airball.

We have to enjoy this while we can.

Even in games we won big last year, I don't ever remember thinking that we played particularly well. Different story this year. These kids like playing with each other, and its evident on the court. I loved the scene towards the end of the game where D'lo, Sheed and Branch were sitting on the bench and D'lo, in the middle, had his arms wrapped around the other two. And they were all smiling. It was a really nice moment.

We've got plenty of reason to be optimistic (about this season) at this point. Think you'll see even the biggest doubters get back on board if this continues.

Anybody know if there's any where to see a replay of the game for those of us who missed it?

Why is it that when I see a full game on youtube, its a st. john's loss. I see the duke game from 1999, all of games we lost to gonzaga 2000, 2011, 2014 etc.

I doubt it. IMO kid doesn't have D1 skills or athleticism. There's a reason why he had no other college offers.

And it was amazing wasn't it? Well my friends you haven't seen anything yet.
Watch what they do Friday night is all I'm gonna say.

How bout that guy leading us in rebounds with only 17 minutes of action.
