Fordham Game

Anybody know if there's any where to see a replay of the game for those of us who missed it?

Why is it that when I see a full game on youtube, its a st. john's loss. I see the duke game from 1999, all of games we lost to gonzaga 2000, 2011, 2014 etc.

Sorry I just saw your post , Watched the 2nd on comcast chan 401
Amar shows me very little at this point coach could have saved the airfare. PERHAPS HOPE HE WILL PROGRESS

He is a true Freshman that is adjusting to the American game after moving here in August. What do you expect? I'm pleasantly surprised with him to be honest. He' s a little lost in the half court right now and needs to learn to go get the ball better, but he sets good hard screens, has a very nice looking stroke from three, wastes no movement at all on his pick-and-pops, boxes out on every single shot, and hustles on both ends.

The 2014 class looked like a failure to most coming into this season, but I think we'll see it as a very solid class when all is said and done. We had two true freshman get minutes in our first win at the Dome in 15 years, and we might have three (possibly four with Henderson) members of this class in an 8-9 man rotation in a few years. Not everyone has to be a star.

Amar gets a pass as a freshman but that so-called 2014 class you see as solid has to go down as one of the most feeble attempts at recruiting at a high major school in recent memory. That you count last minute desperation walk ons, a disqualified player and a Euro lost in translation as a "solid" Class makes me think Fun could do a solid editorial on you. At least we will know it is tongue and cheek as opposed to your delusional missives.

Delusional, huh? You've been wrong about everything this season and I've been right on the money. It doesn't matter if a kid commits four years early or the day before the semester begins, they are still a part of the recruiting class. Stewart has a very refined skill--one that has earned the respect of all of his senior teammates and earned him minutes on top 25 team as a true freshman. Amar looks like he will be a solid four-year contributor as well. ADR is a very skilled mountain of a center and will contribute for four years if he is ruled eligible. Henderson has nice looking jumper and looks like a decent player. This is not a bad core of players to build on. This is a very skilled group with excellent size.

Add a JUCO or two and sprinkle in some top 50 players, and it will be a very competitive group of guys. Th

IMO the best we can hope for from those 4 are that they become decent bench/roll players. I still don't see Amar contributing at this level, but hope to be proven wrong. ADR has a lot of work to do before he can be expected to contribute. Stewart looks like he can develop in to a solid player, time will tell. Henderson has shown us very little one way or the other. We cannot in any way. shape or form, plan on building a successful team around those four kids. Appreciate your optimism Marillac, but think your expectations of those 4 are way to high.

Spot on Monte.

Yea you are setting yourself up for failure if you are expecting a lot from the 2014 class. If we have a great year and make a deep run, Lavin still isn't forgiven for 2014 class, but the momentum from the good season could lead to a good 2015 class and an even better 2016 class. Nothing will nullify the 2014 class, but two solid 15-16 classes could come pretty close.

I still think after a tournament birth, Lavin would go back on hot seat if we aren't good next year. I don't like the fact that it is looking like we can only succeed under Lavin when we have very good seniors. I think he's done a good job with the team this year, and I don't mean to look ahead and get away from just enjoying this season, but I don't want to rebuild all over again and have to wait till 4 years from now to expect to be good again.

We need consistency and stability, and after this season, if it goes the way it is looking, Lavin is going to have the credibility and momentum to get players to make this program moe consistent and competitive. Whether or not he takes advantage will be seen.

Waaiiiiit. I thought you said he was gone if we didn't secure at least a sweet 16 berth this year. correct?

I think three of these guys could be quality cogs in an eight to nine man rotation in a few years--two of them are already doing that for a top 20 team ;) I don't think that qualifies for high expectations.

Too many posters take the all or nothing approach with recruits, but there certainly is a middle ground. Quality depth and experience...it keep the the machine moving. You don't want to have to turn over completely every three to four years.

I said IMO he should be gone, but we all know if we make the tournament, he isn't going anywhere. That is clear to me

I didn't even get a clear indication he was on the hot seat after last year, so if we get a bid and lose first or second round he will be here next year. In my opinion, he shouldn't be unless he pulls out a nice 2015 class along the way

So to recap, if we get to march and lose in first round, and Lavin has no spring recruits of great quality committed for the 2015 class, he should be gone because A) it appears he can only win with seniors and B: that would be 2 bad classes in a row. But I really am enjoying this season, so I don't even want to get into the future of Lavin any further

With essentially the same roster....where was this team last year?

Minus Sanchez and Samson, there's a camaraderie and cohesiveness on this year's team that was lacking last year.

Gotta give Marillac some credit where it is due man.

For?

Everything that he predicted is happening before our eyes, and it just so happens everyone killed him for that prediction. That post you said about sanczhes and Sampson he said a million times during preseason

So did I and lots of other people, only not repetitively. There have also been tons of outlandishly ridiculous predictions by Marillac, like the ones about Balamou and Jones being impact players this year. The fact is that in spite of my feelings about lavin, I said from the get go that if this team came together that they had a good chance of making the tourny. While its still early, and the tough part of the schedule is yet to come, they have played incredible ball so far and I would be surprised if they don't continue to play well and and make the tourny. Appreciate the Marillac suggestion, but think I'll give myself credit ;)

I'll take Balamou--although I said I doubt he gets any PT this year--but please don't put Jones on me. You'd be hard-pressed to find a bigger critic of Jones. I am not a not a fan of what I've seen from Balamou this year. He is (understandably) timid and those kinds of guys lose games for you. He's just trying to not get yanked when he's out there. He has no confidence.

I've been calling for Dom to play the four for four (just wanted to write that) years now. I was ridiculed for the addition by subtraction comment about Sampson. Credit is not what is important...just hoping fans will choose the optimistic outlook once in a while. We have a good team, I am writing in first person, let's just be positive.

How bout that guy leading us in rebounds with only 17 minutes of action.

I wouldn't put too much into yesterday's game. It was very lopsided. Jones had 6 boards in 17 minutes...Balamou had four in nine minutes. Pretty safe bet he would have outrebounded Jones if his time was doubled and he's only 6'4.

I will say that Jones looked pissed yesterday. He's typically easy to spot because he is so slow to react, but I thought he was Dom a few times and that is a compliment (this year).

If Pecora gets canned and Fordham doesn't object, Paschal would be high on my list. That kid will be a beast in a few years with the right conditioning.

When Jones ripped that offensive rebound in the middle of traffic and got fouled on the way down in the 2nd half, Rico and Whitesell absolutely exploded off the bench. You could just tell by the way they kept congratulating him on it that him being an aggressor on the backboards is something they want badly.

It's in there with CJ. Maybe not as much as everyone would like, especially in light of his body/athleticism, but there is some real ability. He's shown flashes. Crucial that we find a way to get something from him 5-10 minutes per night, Obekpa will not be able to give us 38+ all season.

All I want to see is Jones given some leeway out on the court. Let him get a solid chance at some playing time and not yanked after one mistake. 8 mins for dom and 8 minutes for Obekpa for 15-20 minutes a night. We cannot ask those guys to play 38 minutes a night and keep up the level of play they have now.

I still think after a tournament birth, Lavin would go back on hot seat .

Painful for Coach Lav. Under the FMLA Act he gets a few weeks off, no?

And who is the baby-daddy - Keady?

I agree with what you're saying about continuity, and maybe a couple of them turn in to solid roll players, but they're not exactly a solid foundation to build upon. Also if you are talking about Stewart and AA being 2 quality cogs in this year's rotation I think you're reaching. Both have seen sparing minutes against lesser comp. I don't expect to see them get much more PT moving forward. So essentially we've got 4 kids who have proven pretty much nothing up to this point. My point is that what we currently have on our roster for next year are a bunch of huge(no pun intended Adonis lol) question marks, and that includes Doughty. I don't want to rain on our parade, but make no mistake about it, we are still in dire straights for next year as things stand right now. Hopefully our success and the resulting buzz it's generating helps us secure some solid recruits/transfers.

Agreed. Think giving him minutes is far more important than giving minutes to AA, Stewart, etc. This can come back to bit us in the rear end later.

BTW, my guess is every walk on will be walking if Lavin gets canned. If that happens I do not expect Amar to be here next year either. This future "core of players" you see may turn out to be a mirage. We are expected to lose our top six players and so far we have signed a 3 star guard. Unless all the recruiting stars are aligned and Lavin steals a few players that can play "starters" minutes we may be challenging DePaul for last place. I am going to enjoy THIS TEAM, THIS YEAR because as far as we stand right now next year is another Lavin recruiting crap shoot. My guess is the administration will look at our potential in this league next April and regardless of wins-losses, will decide if Lavin has assembled a group of players who can compete at the top level of the Big East. You know full well the players we are involved with and if miss out on every one of them it will be assumed that Midas has lost his recruiting touch especially if playing time is all but guaranteed. Then your coaches rep has taken a hit and you need radical change that is not spelled Masiello or Cluess. This will be a pivotal year for the Big East but more so for one of its flagship programs.

Too many posters take the all or nothing approach with recruits, but there certainly is a middle ground. Quality depth and experience...it keep the the machine moving. You don't want to have to turn over completely every three to four years.

Sensible, grounded post Monte.

Th

Why don't you stop guessing then and enjoy a team that is ranked in the top 25 in both polls. Your guessing hasn't exactly worked out for thus far. Still talking about Lavin getting canned and trying to predict the fallout? We have a five-star soph guard that can be here two more seasons AFTER this season. We have a junior center on the NBA radar that can come back next season. Let's just stop assuming the worst will happen with every situation. All I am saying is that maybe this 2014 class isn't such a disaster after all, but you want to predict a 6'9 230 pound freshman's future based on 15 minutes of action.

In terms of Christian Jones, right now it's up to the staff to squeeze out value in the minutes he gets. No one here seriously thinks he would have grabbed 12 boards had he logged 34 minutes, but in Obekpa's absence provided some much needed rebounding. If he provides steady relief, he will get regular, significant minutes. He's really the only option off the bench to provide some muscle down low, so he can become a vital part of this team, especially in foul trouble. The good thing about CO's early ejection was that Jones got serious minutes against a lesser opponent. It could prove to be a springboard for him going forward.

There are dozens of freshmen STARTING on lesser teams that have shown me more promise than Amar so we must be truly screwed by your vision of our future.

Curious use of words in this post...."erected" "get a grip on yourself." Do you want to tell us something?

If you are going to quote me, at least put the "maybe" immediately preceding the part you quote or you removing the context. Silly me for suggesting that maybe we might look back on this class as not being a complete disaster. If pull this post four years from now, I'll be patting myself on the back again. I get it.

Both buildings belong on the Creedmoor campus not on a college campus. Both buildings should have been refaced years ago.
