Fired up for Villanova

Why should we care what Lavin says publicly? Did you ever hear the pure BS that Pitino puts out. As far as I'm concerned Lavin is just going to say this sort of stuff, and it has no bearing on what kind of coach he is. Just win.

So when Saturday comes and we witness bail out ball, someone needs to re-tweet this nonsense back to him.

Drill work.

Orlando chucking 3s from the corner?

Brother!

@NYPost_Brazille: Lavin on starting lineup: "We've been trying different combinations. Kids know always you earn it by what you do week of game." #sjubb

Experiment over?

@NYPost_Brazille: Lavin on Ndiaye: "Don't see him on the short term being central to this upcoming stretch of games, but he's someone we really value." #sjubb

I hesitate to even begin to psychoanalyze the stuff that comes out of his mouth sometimes (I'm a Lavin fan, but he's so over the top), but "kids know always you earn it by what you do week of game" is nonsensical. I understand the underlying message and you want that to be every player's approach to every practice, but you can't evaluate players and how various groups of 5 work together on a day-to-day basis. It's actually inherently contradictory, because for a unit to gel they have to, you know, play together on a semi-regular basis and develop chemistry. Constant evaluation and re-evaluation to fine-tune things is one thing, but it's like we've been starting with a fresh slate every week to the point where even what happened the very last game doesn't seem to impact the logic behind the rotation that much.

Since Lavin values practice so much it is a really good thing he never coached Allen Iverson.

Practice? We are talking about practice?

Though I think this is a new passion for Lavin as something tells me Baron Davis was not exactly a gym rat either. Didn't affect his playing time however. Who knows why Lavin did what he did against Gtown. Hopefully it never happens again though.

50 bucks a ticket, 20 bucks for train ride, 10 bucks a beer, and we walk into MSG vs Nova and Ndiaye is starting at center? Can't happen (well who knows)

I would bet he plays it straight with his rotation featuring the guys from the normal 9 man rotation.
Again I really don't put much into the "practice" thing but if we play along, wouldn't Hooper benefit from practice being such a factor? If Hooper is such a lights out shooter that everyone says, those guys usually kill it in practice. Would think he would have benefited from Lavin's practice to play credo?

He will play it straight. I believe he needed to get his rationale out there for GT lineup. Practice is more palatable than premonition I suppose. Let's win against a quality opponent Saturday.

I'll be there with the Mrs and we'll both be rooting our guys on. But I tell you this. I will be really teed off if I see a starting lineup similar to the one against GT!

Agree he will play it straight but the question is will he play it best? As many minutes as health, stamina, and in-game performance dictate from the best players on the roster?

NO but I think he starts Hooper

I hope this team , players, coaches, will be fired up for this game because its' past the time for them to show whether they are contenders or pretenders.

The Nova game is as much a must win game as any in the last 4 years. Losing means 0-3 in a conference where 4 NCAA bids are likely all the league will get. Right now we are tied for last place and have looked awful against Xavier and G'town.. Nova may be the best team in the League and holding home court on them is important.

Frankly, this group of players hasn't responded to any challenge before them in their time here. Neither has the Coach performed at a level expected, excepting recruiting which unless results are forthcoming now, can be put under a microscope for further review. HS rankings mean little for college players now in their second or 3rd years.

Let's get a win at the Garden against a ranked foe and start a win streak that gets us in contention for the dance.

This team should be sitting on a big effort, with no excuses. A week to prepare and get over a bad loss, first conference home game, backs to the wall against a highly ranked opponent. I expect a performance similar to the Cuse game, but hoping for a better last 5 minutes. With all the bashing (myself included), a lot will be forgotten with a win against Villanova. A bad loss, and the pressure will mount. They (and us) will lose all faith and may start to phone it in for awhile.

What will be equally interesting will be the reaction if we lose but play them tight (I'm getting vibes of last year's OT loss to Marquette at the Garden, ugh). Lets face it, we will not be favored in this game but eventually we need to win some games that we are not expected to. This would be a perfect one to start with.

If we win this game, we have a little streak of "easier" games. Then, we go to butler, which we found out last night is a very winnable game after Depaul took them down at the Hinkle. Plenty of opportunities await, we just need to show consistency and we will be fine.

I agree but to an extent. If we struggled to beat teams like Longwood, Monmouth & Wagner at home, I fully expect to have an even more difficult time winning on the road in conference play. While I admit the games may be "easier", we all know that anything can happen in league play, just ask G'Town who got whipped by PC & Butler, who I am sure thought DePaul at home was going to be an easy win.

Tomorrow's game is a fork in the road, there is no doubting that. Every game counts the same and the season is not over with a loss, but the difference between 0-3 with tons of pressure @DePaul vs. 1-2 with a signature win and looking to go to DePaul and take care of business to get back to even in conference play is night and day.
