Fired up for Villanova

I just think Lavin lost his coaching mojo after losing UCLA job...He must have had doubts too after leaving TV..for SJ.....Being down by 20-30 pts shows me that the players aren't playing up to their potential..Either they aren't prepared....or the coach cant adjust to the opponents game plan...John Thompson outcoached Lou just about every time. And btw,no player should be allowed to go 1/12.....

Yeah. We should have sat Harrison at 1/6 and let Ndaiye play more.

Yeah. We should have sat Harrison at 1/6 and let Ndaiye play more.

But if our team, or any team ftm, has to suffer a player shooting 8% rather than having other offensive options, then the rest of the team must truly be deficient or underdeveloped in the technicalities of the game. If anything, it shows he is not the great recruiter he is made out to be or a poor judge of the available talent. Ranked schools like Gonzaga and Wichita have done better in far flung outposts than our wizard!
Harrison played out of control and zero defense most of the game. Branch and Jordan were also invisible. FUN's twin flours would have served a purpose in this game rather than embarrassing your star recruits with a walk on and Balamou. You can bitch slap your players in practice but when you do so on national television it diminishes the program. You would hope no future recruits were watching.

Just think of how many walk-ons we are attracting though.

Look when you are playing so poorly you have to come out .no matter on Natl tv or playing in the park THAT is not being bitch slapped.

@NYPost_Brazille: Harrison: "They're 8th in the country. We get them, maybe people will get off our back." #sjubb

Certainly the media has been kind, so wonder who he means?

@FarcoSJU: "Our job is to play. Whatever Coach Lav draws up, its our job to execute." Harrison on rotation of lineups

@NYPost_Brazille: Harrison on if they beat Villanova: "It's not like it's gonna be an upset in our eyes." #sjubb
Just play D'Lo

Brother!

@NYPost_Brazille: Lavin on starting lineup: "We've been trying different combinations. Kids know always you earn it by what you do week of game." #sjubb

Experiment over?

@NYPost_Brazille: Lavin on Ndiaye: "Don't see him on the short term being central to this upcoming stretch of games, but he's someone we really value." #sjubb

@FarcoSJU: Lavin continues to say it... "February will be when we hit our stride." I think a lot of people hope so...

@FarcoSJU: This is Steve Lavin. "Some need to realize that playing college basketball is a privilege."

@FarcoSJU: Shuffling the lineups = trying to find identity??? Steve Lavin, "Absolutely. We are not at a point where we have 5 that are the clear best"

"Coach speak" Who cares! Beat Nova Lav!

@NYPost_Brazille: Lavin says if St. John's beats Dartmouth a week from Saturday, would be his best non-conference record since he's here #sjubb

@NYPost_Brazille: Lavin hammering home point expects team to jell by February, and still feeling itself out. #sjubb

Also said that Jordan has been playing on a less than 100% ankle last few games.

Players are saying all the right things, but we're hearing a LOT of rationalizations and excuses from our coach. And to point out this will be his best non-conf record since he's been here?? We haven't beaten anybody of note. C'mon.

Record "stuff" Lav mentioned unfortunately reminds me of the nonsense Rex Ryan puts out there at times.

I think he wanted to send a message with the Walk on start and Felix Coming in this season. I hope the team got the point.

"Absolutely. We are not at a point where we have 5 that are the clear best" = More line up changes till Februrary

I hesitate to even begin to psychoanalyze the stuff that comes out of his mouth sometimes (I'm a Lavin fan, but he's so over the top), but "kids know always you earn it by what you do week of game" is nonsensical. I understand the underlying message and you want that to be every player's approach to every practice, but you can't evaluate players and how various groups of 5 work together on a day-to-day basis. It's actually inherently contradictory, because for a unit to gel they have to, you know, play together on a semi-regular basis and develop chemistry. Constant evaluation and re-evaluation to fine-tune things is one thing, but it's like we've been starting with a fresh slate every week to the point where even what happened the very last game doesn't seem to impact the logic behind the rotation that much.

I get the sense from some of his actions (last year with DLO) and his comments that he has an eye to the future. He is trying to build a winning culture by sometimes sacrificing the present for a move that will pay off in the future.

Non Conference wins, especially ours this season, are not a basis for patting oneself on the back.. Our tournament hopes rest on a top 4 finish in conference and a win or 2 in the BE TOURNEY.

A win against a very good Nova team gets $$$ in the bank..

I agree, and futhermore he has seen these kids play for months and months almost everyday, HE should know by now who his best 5 or 6 players are .

Except Rex Ryan is actually a good coach and gets the most from his players...Lavin underachieves.

Since Lavin values practice so much it is a really good thing he never coached Allen Iverson.

He heard you guys!

@SJUCoachLavin: Practices have been good this week. We get to do drill work and focus on certain areas of emphasis on both sides of the ball. #SJUBB

Guess we know one guy who was in dog house;

@SJUCoachLavin: JaKarr has had a great week of practice, probably the best three consecutive days of practice in his career. #SJUBB
