Fire Lavin!

I doubt Jordan transfers, if for no other reason than he would have to sit out a year, and I am sure this kid is going to be in the draft next season..Everybody is coming out this year, which is why Sampson will be playing in Europe. I see Jordan sticking it out and going to the draft next season...Obekpa definitely is not ready for primetime, but Jordan is special and will get drafted.

He doesn't have to sit a year if he gets a hardship waiver. He has a sick mother, a bunch of younger siblings, aunt who was just murdered (not sure if she helped the mother with caregiving when the mother was sick.) Temple would kill for him, they need a star PG as badly as we do.

My guess--and it is only a guess--is that Lavin's fate right now all comes down to Rysheed Jordan and whether he is going to transfer. His "handlers" have got to be thinking about hardship waiver at this point and Temple.

But if Lavin can keep Jordan and land Delarosa plus Thomas, then he's got a shot at keeping his job for more than a couple of years. We'll find out soon enough.

Thomas and the Delarosa brothers are hardly enough to move the needle.

If you're telling me a 3-star project and his brother who couldn't make a dent at FIU along with a local JUCO buys any D1 coach a couple of years, then I want some of what you're drinking.

There is a systematic flaw at SJU. Lackadaisical staff, malcontent players and zero player development cannot sustain a program.

Until those areas are addressed, all we are doing is shifting papers around on a cluttered desk.

Of course Temple would want him. They won 9 games, are graduating their leading scorer, and their 4th leading scorer is transferring. Why would he want them? Our situation right now is bad, as we all know. Temple's is a hell of a lot worse.

The last thing Rysheed needs is to be back in Philly.

Have to agree we have systemic problems unfortunately. It will be interesting to see what transpires this week.

Oh, I agree with everything you're saying. I'm just saying that our very good backcourt, led by Jordan, plus a couple of big bodies could win enough games next year for Lavin to talk extension. I don't like it, though, as the problems you list won't go away as long as he's HC.

If we land de la rosa, Henderson, and Thomas, we have a shot to be decent next year, so let's see how it plays out...

Disagree.
De la rosa will be a non factor next season. Henderson will be buried deep on the guard depth chart. Thomas would get pt out of sheer lack of depth up front.

The staff didn't know how to utilize their most diverse player in Sanchez.

Also didn't know how to utilize players for spot duty in Hooper.

What makes you think something will change all of a sudden adding role players with the Delarosa bros and Thomas?

Outside shooting is taking a massive hit. And we have seen in the Lavin era we don't have any post offense.

You're setting yourself up for expectations that have no foundation.

I'm totally with you on JDR's awful stats, but to be fair to the kid, he joined FIU mid-season as a frosh and Isaiah said at the time that he wouldn't play much because he wasn't in the right condition and didn't know the offense. He left after a few games into his junior year and was a starter. His soph year is all we really have to go by. He was a relatively high recruit....he is 6'11.5 and it takes bigs longer to be serviceable than any other positions...especially at that size. He is coming in with more experience than GG or Sanchez had.

FIU had some decent talent up front like the Lousivlle transfer Rakeem Buckles who averaged 6.8 and 6.1 at Louisville and they clearly played small, as the best two players statistically were 6'6 220 and 6'5 210 (7.4 rebounds per game) in addition to Buckles.

Completely disagree

Unfortunately, we're gonna suck next year

ONLY if one of our guards leaves. Sampson was expected. Obekpa was forced out by his sheer stupidity. It is what ii is with our front line. There will be two 6'8 kids that will be very physical and give us muscle that neither Sampson nor Obekpa had and will not play 20 feet from the basket like Sanchez. The guards hold the keys from being a 4th place team or an 8th place team.

What expectations? I said we have a shot to be decent. Which isn't far fetched if we bring the players we are clots to getting. As for a foundation, we have the best backcourt in the conference, along with two people that could hit the three in Henderson and Greene. If we could just put a group together of rebounders (Thomas, ADR, Jones, JDR) we could possibly be alright next year. Chill out. I didn't say we'd win 25 games and make it to the tournament. I said we could possibly be decent. We could possibly win 18 games next year, the big east is very weak.

And our outside shooting took a hit with hooper, obekpa, and Sampson leaving? Henderson can shoot really well, and unlike hooper he can actually run the floor.

A Delarosa < Obekpa
J Delarosa < Sanchez
Thomas < Sampson

Henderson may be better than Marco and Hooper, but even that's not certain.

Marillac's point about role players contributing more than stars can be true on occasion. But we're losing 3 sizeable talents - and we weren't that great this season! We aren't talented enough to just fill in a couple of role players, we needed to add or retain big pieces.
And all this assuming no one else leaves.

To be clear, I think we will win 15 games next season. All I'm saying is we have a chance to do better if we get the players I hope. Jay Henderson is a very good player and a very underrated player in my opinion. If we got him I'd be very happy.

Correct & Henderson will not be better than Max or Marco in year one. Unless Lavin adds an additional tough forward, this is a mediocre class. Perhaps the guards can do well and lead us to another NIT. As a fan, I can appreciate folks being positive, but being realistic may be in order. If another guard "shoe" drops we must accept we are in for a long season.

To say he will be a non factor next year means he won't be seeing any playing time IMO. Since we know that won't happen he will help out throughout the season because we would need him. You have no clue what will happen next year if he is here. People thought Sanchez was all everything, so let's give him a chance to see what happens before we start labeling. We know that doesn't work well here.

At best Adonis could give us Gift like minutes. Give him time and he will be a functional post man. It is unfair to throw him to the lions in year one. Again, I am not an expert, but have seen him in person many times.
