Europe Trip Details

According to the stats, Lipscomb, playing less than 7 minutes, led the team in assists (3).

Three assists in 7 minutes?
That's at least 17 a game.
Has to start.
Love stats.

You must be kidding? There are statistically significant events, and those that aren't. In basketball even if you scored 25 point in half a game, as impressive as that is, you can't suggest that had the player logged a full game the results would be much better, no less double. What Lipscomb did was the equivalent of a guy hitting 2 shots in 5 minutes of play.

I think qcredman was being sarcastic, Beast. Always tough to distinguish on here.

Of course I was being sarcastic. Sorry for misleading you.

The trip to Europe is great for the team in multiple ways. Basketball wise and Educationally too!

Looking to the season, this should be a veteran, disciplined and hard playing team with a top 50 freshman to boot. As a fan, I expect this team to be a standout and BE contender and a NCAA berth as a minimum.

Let's hope Lavin and staff can get them to achieve team goals first and individual goals second..

Something I've taken from the first 2 games, other than Hooper, our guys will not scare anyone with their outside shooting and, by this time in their careers, it's unlikely to see much improvement in FG percentage from Harrison, Branch, etc.. They will shoot pretty much what they have always shot and, not much better.

So, get ready to continue to see a steady dose of Zones.. I do hope they can play better defense than what we've seen in the Lavin era as they will need to improve substantially in this category.

So at a certain age you reach a level of no shot improvement no matter the work you put in? I guess it must be 19 or 20 years old ;)

I think Hooper will be a solid consistent 3 pt guy, but not many are mentioning Branch as another good shooter. He's not just a layup machine, he can hit from 3 and long 2's as well. His shot is very clean and tight. Definitely not like Sampson where it rattles around and somehow goes in...Branch has a sweet stroke and it will help us big time.

By the way, does anyone know what time the game is tonight (in our time)?

They don't play again 'til Tuesday. You're thinking about next Saturday.

There may not be much of a FG % increase from those guys, but the team has more guys capable of hitting 3's, with Hooper, Sanchez & Jordan. So i expect more 3-pointers made per game.

Another thing that can help offset our lack of shooting ability (and I believe it will) are more guys who can get inside...Gift, Sanchez, an improved Branch, and Jordan. We should have much more of an inside presence with dunks/layups. If we can consistently get in the paint for those, our poor shooting will not kill us as much.

One thing the daily pictures from Europe seem to show is that Sanchez is the tallest guy on the team. With his skillset at that size he really could be a matchup nightmare this year.

Well, since we have no players taller than 6'9 your visual assumption is spot on.
Unfortunate that he and Gift will be gone next year when we become a very small team. A quick glance at our bigs targets for 2014 and 2015 does not entirely hold much promise for a dominant SJU team in the future in the new Big East.

So a "quick look" before any of the signing periods makes you assume we won't be good for the next few years? Pitt grabbed a big guy named Steve Adams out of New Zealand last year when nobody knew anything about him and he quickly rose in the rankings. Why dont people have any patience to see who we land first?

Mark Fratto's latest communiqué (dateline Rome) includes this: "...The team then made and packed a host of sack lunches and set off to the Roma Termini train station, distributing nourishing meals to those in need...."

It's good to see that the Vincentian mission has not been forgotten in all of the excitement a trip to Europe and competing against European pros generates.

When they're old and gray I'll bet this is one of the stories that these young men will tell their grandchildren about the trip.
