Detroit Game

They may very well win...but let's not make Detroit into Davidson with Curry a few yrs ago. This team has 1 great player. You really would be surprised if we won? Home court, deeper team, taller team, 3 top 100 players coming back with experience, etc. We are a Big East team. We are supposed to win. Whether we do remains to be seen.

I hope I'm wrong.
I'm basing my prediction not on Detroit being very good, but because we're just not ready yet.

To me we're going to struggle until we prove we can score in the half-court. I think our defense will improve dramatically as the year progresses, I just hope that our offense follows suit.

I'd feel a lot more comfortable if Dunlap were still here. He may be a hardass, but fundamentals are his thing. And we have a roster full of freshmen and sophomores who need to be reminded of the little things 24/7.
Time for the rest of the staff to really prove something. There's talent here that should be molded by the time we hit conference play.

Also, fyi; Detroit attempted 31 threes in their opening game this week. Hit 35% of them.
So, as usual, we need to make sure we don't get beat from beyond the arc repeatedly. Thats been somewhat of our MO for the last two years. Playing man might change things though.

Hope you really aren't thinking Detroit is one man team. Sr. Forward Doug Anderson is very good. Double digit scorer, 5 boards a game last year in 24 minutes. Shoots 52% from the field and over 80% from the line. They also return Callistre (a 12 pt scorer, and Minnerath (also a double digit scorer when he went down with an injury last year)

McCallum IS a terrific PG - their leader in pts and assists last year - but far from their only good player.

But we should beat them by about 12. :)

It's easy for a mid major to beat a power conference team every once in a while, but I can't see them winning 2 in a row against us especially in our house with our new toys. They won't be scoring at will this time with Obekpa, Pointer, and Sampson defending.

Detroit returns seven players from last seasons NCAA tournament team. Ray McCallum and Jason Calliste start in the back court. Doug Anderson, Juwan Howard Jr. and Nick Minnerath start in the front court. Evan Bruinsma, PJ Boutte and Jermaine Lippert provide solid minutes from the bench.

The Titans also have two 6'5" freshman wings who look promising and two Nigerian post men in reserve.

Detroit has great team chemistry this season and expect to win. This should be a great game.

ahh detriot fan. Are u from the area here?

This Detroit team was 5-9 on the road last year, so let's not get crazy with all this talk of returning starters. The game is here and we should win it. Our interior defense should be much better this time around, allowing us to extend our D to the three point line, especially with Obekpa in the game. And, for those worried about D'Lo and whether he'll play well...c'mon. He's our best player and he's better IMO than their best player. McCallum is good, but he's not all world. He averaged 15.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4 assists in 33+ minutes (averaging 24% from 3 point range) against much lesser competition than D'Lo faced. I expect him and Detroit to play well on Tuesday, but this is not the deer in the headlights, somewhat dysfunctional St. John's team we took to Detroit last year.

Thoughts on this game? I think we have our hands full. They have 4 starts who are quite good. McCallum and Doug Anderson had combined 47 pts in opener. Not sure it is time to experiment with D'Lo at pg on Tuesday. We'll need our frontcourt to dominate because their backcourt is no slouch. I think we also really need Obekpa to be an enforcer in the paint. Defense has to be better than our exhibitions by a mile. I'm also really hoping for some positive news on Bourgault and/or Sanchez by then.

While they are one of the top mid majors, we are still the better team and should win. With that said, I wouldn't be shocked if we lose. While everyone else is playing cupcakes in their openers we are playing a likely NCAA tourney team and as I said top 10 mid major. I wonder how the kids will react being thrown right into the fire. A lot of it really depends on Harrison IMO...which one will we see? The cold shooting, frustrated one as of recent or the red-hot automatic from 3 machine we saw vs. Cuse last year? Also, does Obekpa's dominance in the 2 exhibitions carry over for a much better team, or drop off in a big way? Finally, the last key for me is whether or not Sanchez/Marco can play. If they can't I think it will be a frustrating game to watch. If they can, I see us winning by double digits.

They are a well coached tough team If we get by them we have something to talk about. Brightens the season

If Sanchez is playing will feel a lot better

Opinion about D'Lo being the best player Think we have more talented players that if they developit have a better chance at the next level He needs to be more consistent so far disappointing Lets see if he comes to play against Detroit

It beats the start of the St. Marys game 2 years ago during the 24 hr marathon. What was that game 2am est?

Sorry, but let's put things in perspective. Detroit is still Detroit...a mid major team. This is not Louisville and this is not even Temple. We have way more talent and we play in the way better division. We are the favorites despite the differing experience levels. Detroit will have their hands full let's make no mistake

Yeah, but Detroit has the highest rated player in the game. ;)

False. Harrison is ranked better.

Harrison: 40 in nation
McCallum: 43rd

Actually, McCallum was the higher rated player coming out of high school, per the RSCI (although, they were in different classes).

McCallum: 22nd in the nation in 2010
Harrison: 47th in the nation in 2011
