Detroit Game

I hope all the self-imposed disruption doesn't cost us a win vs Detroit though.

I think deep down you hope it does so that you have something to refer back to in every single one of your posts for the next three seasons.

Another one of your classically dumb posts. Bottom line is that we lose by a dozen without DLo in that game. Good to see some common sense on Lavin's part as opposed to the Fordham game a couple of seasons ago when he let a 6'7" guy (Garces I believe) beat us single handedly while Evans sat the whole game. Steve did take the blame for that one himself so please don't defend him blindly as you always do. We will go as far as Harrison takes us this year and I think Steve had better bury the hatchet with him for everyone's good.

Yep, Evans is the reason we lost that Fordham game 2 years ago. Not because the Rams made more than half of their 3s...

You guys realize that Obekpa will not be averaging 8 blocks a game.

The Admiral's best season he averaged 6. Mourning, O'Neal, 5. Theo Ratliff, about 4.

Just to put things in perspective and temper expectations when the inevitable posters bitch about him only getting 3 swats against Syracuse.

Was a very happy camper to be at the SJU win. Sloppy at times, yes, but we did what we had to do. I was impressed that a team made up of frosh and sophs was able to come from behind and get a "W". Some players exceeded expectations and others, not so much. I am a glass half full kind of person and feel that the players that did not have good games will come around. It seemed to me that Sampson was over energized, and that was at least part of the reason he had trouble getting in the flow of the game. First game on this level-not a surprise that some will come out too amped. Dom is a great resource-his attitude and energy are important and we need him. Will he score a lot-probalby not, but then we don't need 10 "scorers". There are important roles to be played and he brings a lot to the table. Is Detroit a top BE team, no, but they are not a chump team by any means-what they did bring was a very experienced team with some talented players.
I would expect that a team, as young as ours, with more first year players than returning players, will have ups and downs. Takes time to get in sync with new players and to learn a system.
I did find Green's info about his injured hand very interesting, and certainly first impressions of this year indicate he could be a very good scorer, which will serve to ease some of the pressure on Dlo. Amir has stepped up his game and is another scoring threat-in addition to being an excellent defender and a solid rebounder. Could we use some more scoring punch up front-yes-but let's give them a chance to get their legs before worrying to much. As for Obekpa-8 or so blocks- even if the players were "only" 6'7 or 6'8, instead of 6'8 or 6'9-he changes the dynamic of entering the lane.
We will have our ups and downs, but I expect more and more ups as the year progresses.
Go SJU!!!

I guess I'd be insulted if it was anyone else, but coming from a bitter alcoholic who last year questioned Lavin's mental stability and mentions Evans in every post, I'll just laugh it off. But please feel free to start a poll to see whose posts are more worthwhile.

Who in the world said he'd Average 8 blocks per game?

Right on.
Funny thing is, though, I think he could average 4-5 because of how many times I've seen him block the same person multiple times in a row. A lot of shot blockers swat it, but he almost always keeps it in play. I've never seen anything like it.

We've never had a kid at STJ like that. Ken Johnson still haunts my sleep.
