Ayo had a really nice game. So did Prey. But this was a glorified scrimmage so Im not sure if you can really take anything from it.

Unfortunately, I think that is the last we have seen of Lefty this year. He did not show much in his minutes.
Yesterday afternoon people were worrying about a trap game/letdown and today it was just a glorified scrimmage.

I hate when people say stuff like this. Its like when we play somebody and they shoot the ball badly and someone says "well, we were fortunate that they shot the ball badly". No, we MADE THEM shoot the ball badly. Yes DePaul sucks. But they were at home and we were missing two guys, including arguably the BE POY. It looked like a glorified scrimmage because our coach- of recent "where is your f***ing toughness??" fame- doesn't allow letdowns and our guys came out with max effort. You might not take anything from that but I sure as hell do.

One takeaway I have from this game, is it was really encouraging to see Deivon have such a strong offensive output. Good for his confidence and hopefully puts behind whatever he was dealing with in that regard.
I also take away (i) Ruben has shown himself to be someone who can play extended minutes if he plays within himself and does not take dumb shots (ii) Ayo is serviceable in spots and that could be important if injury issues persist or foul trouble arises during tourney play; and (iii) if we shoot anything like we did last night, while playing our signature defense, we can beat anyone and a final 4 would be possible; and (iv) Lefty probably not yet ready for prime time.

Don’t waste your energy, trying to unravel the enigma that is a Mullin’s Revenge post.

Very workmanlike performance by our team. Pitino won’t let them slide. He was Coaching as hard late in the game as he was earlier. Yup, DePaul was overmatched from the beginning (not our problem) but good teams do exactly what St. John’s did last night.

Hopefully, they have a couple days to get healthy before the Sunday game with the Yukon.

Announcer just said that 85 team led by Bill Wennington. That like saying the Beatles were led by Ringo Starr.
Well, they played in Chicago where Wennington got himself some rings.

It makes me happy that younger fans have the opportunity to witness what many of us went through back in the day...every year outstanding teams and true basketball excitement. Savor it!

For realla? I thought he was solid. Didnt look rushed, brought the ball up confidently, and rattled out 2 3pt attempts. He even looks like be bulked up a little.

Holtmann said in his press conference we have the potential to be final four team. Always nice to hear. Hope he can revive Depaul a bit. Bet their fans much like ours
With about 5 games left, Mullin's last team was considered a dark horse Final Four team.

With 4 games left, Anderson's last team was considered a favorite for the final four he would ever coach.

I do have my concerns about a deep run because of our FT shooting, and there's still a long way to go, but comparing Mullin and Anderson coached teams, to a Pitino coached team, is nowhere close to a fair comparison.

I don't kmow about that. If SHU could have paid Kadary the NIL he received here, they'd at least be as good as we would be without him.

Their best player now is Wusu, and that's a kid who could have helped us this year and last.

Can't gloat. In this era, any school is one Zuckerberg, Gates, Bezos, or Musk NIL donor away from dominating a college sport. Essentially, those donors "own" the franchise, because they can dictate or at least have a strong voice in which players to sign, coaches to hire, or other investments a program makes.

With some coaches, notably Wright, bailing on the sdditional headsche of one year rosters and kids who now have cash in their pockets, Pitino has adapted and used the system to accelerate a rebuild.

SHU, Butler, DePaul are currently among the have nots in college basketball which the NCAA has to (but probably won't) address. It weakens the overall product if less schools can compete.
Not gloating at all.

I was joking of the fact that his rep at Seton Hall was that he didn’t practice and didn’t play through minor injuries or soreness. At least that’s what my Hall fans have told me over the years.

So ironic that Pitino is gushing about his playing through injury and practice habits in mid-Feb after a game where we needed him to gut it out.
