DePaul, Wed. Feb. 17, 8pm, CBS SN (Radio n/a)

Good for kids & staff, been a tough experience. Looking forward to next season when we have horses to, at the very least, make it interesting each night. Off season strength & skill level improvement by the holdovers & freshmen will be key to making further progress. It should be a "fun watch" for sure.

what a relief! Nice to see Mussini back in the scoring column. Yakwe and Sima will spend a lot of time this summer on free throw shooting!

And their 12' to 15' shooting. In other words, a very busy summer. That said, thrilled that they'll be here for a few more years.

Yes, foul shooting must improve but hey, they have a coach that was a great foul shooter. It is all about practice they will need to take 500 per day Iys boring but needs to happen If they all shot fouls like Mussini would that be nice

Why didn't Ron shoot FTs after the Ts?
We were in double bonus, refs blow whistle as M'Vouika is fouled, T is called on Wood. Mussini shoots the 2 T foul shots yet no M'Vouika foul shots. Wood complained to refs about M'Vouika hitting him in face, refs go to monitor. Maybe they called a football like off setting personal fouls? :silly: Don't really know what the heck they called as Mullin questioned it but didn't really argue much. Announcers never mentioned it. Guess it will remain one of life's mysteries. Just glad it wasn't a close game.

Ref told Mullin Ron called TO before foul.

Per "Palpable Buzz" Jon Rothstein;

St. John's first-year PF/C combo of Kassoum Yakwe and Yankuba Sima combined for 17, 18, and 7 blocks against DePaul. Strong tandem. #sjubb

Great to see the kids get a win. I didnt get a chance to see the game, but glad to hear about great play by our young guys. Sima, Mussini, Yakwe and Ellison are an extremely nice core of young players. All have nice potential and have progressed steadily this season. We have a ton of talent stepping in next year as well, which will give us a much more dynamic look on the court. We wil still be extremely young, but the staff wI'll have them playing well together sooner rather than later.

I know we haven't seen it in wins and losses this season, but I like the way the kids have been coached. They all know how to run offense, and play very loose. The defensive deficiencies have glared the most, but we do lack quite a bit of talent and athleticism which I think is one of the biggest reasons for our shortcomings this season.

While the jury is still out, I like what I see, and the kids play hard for Mullin. We just lack the talent, but that will be on the way next season. We have a great staff in place who I think can bring sustained recruiting success.

Great game yesterday! Glad the guys pulled it out, now lets steal one from Seton Hall and mess with their tourney bid...Lets go Johnnies!!!

I have been watching ST John's since Mullin's Soph year and those are the only guys in all that time that I think lifted weights. Does ST John's even have a weight room?

I equate it to hockey. Say a puck goes in and out of the net. It's ruled no goal, play continues. The other team scores. The refs go to the monitor to check the first shot, and rule that the puck went in. At that point, the first score counts, the other team's goal is nullified, and the clock is reset to when the goal would have been scored.

I've been trying to follow this for 10 minutes. Perhaps because I haven't watched hockey since Gordie Howe was still playing for the Red Wings.

Team A shoots the puck and it bounces out of the net. Play continues as if nothing happened. Team B scores. The refs then go and examine the play where nothing happened and rule that a goal was scored. Team B's goal is nullified and the clock is set back.

Why are the referees checking the play where nothing happened on the monitor?

Much more than the weight room, Mussini, Freud and Sima need the dining room table. They need to consume a lot of calories. Yakwe can use the weight room while the others all stuff their faces with the right mix of protein and carbs. More than a strength coach, these 3 need a nutritionist.

Yes they have a weight room and more players than that lifted weights. Not everyone lifts weights to "bulk" up. Believe it or not, Kevin Fitzpatrick did a lot of work in the weight room when he was at St. John's. You left out Obekpa who had more definition and muscle tone his last year here than when he left.

There is a nice one in Taffner that the players use. However, there is only so much you are going to see during the season when you are playing games and practice along with other responsibilities.

Ok guys that actually played. I played almost as many minutes as Fitzpatrick. When you think of ST John's there are more of Mussini, Jason Buchanon, Malik Sealy, David Russell guys than Matt Brust's

Looks brand new, no one has ever used them lol
Should send them to Staten Island weight room. I used to live around the corner and would play in the gym. All the students there were muscle bound guidos.

One thing about Mussini: He has what can't be taught by a coach or worked on in practice: Heart and fight. Despite his lack of size, not afraid of contact, willing to take big shots and runs towards the ball in crunch time instead of away from it. Seems to be a great teammate and has a positive attitude. Just about every nice run we had this year was lead by Mussini. His points seem to come in bunches. When opposing teams have to worry about containing Lovett and Bashir and others, he will find himself open.

Well next year I think his role will depend on how he is shooting. Will play as long as he is knocking down shots.

Pretty sure Anthony Glover lifted.

When Norm was hired once of the things he asked for was that the school hire a dedicated strength and conditioning coach. So clearly before that it was not a priority.

Yeah and Sean Evans too but fro the most part we are Skinny. Remember that Auburn team we lost to Berry's year? They looked like they could have eaten our team

Congrats to the team and staff, so happy for them. I cannot wait to see Yawke, Sima + Lovett and Ponds.

On a side note: Doug Gottleib went out of his way to mention that Villanova does not deserve either a 1 OR a 2 seed in the NCAA tourney. I am a Jay Wright fan, but they have to make the sweet sixteen this year or his credibility is going to take a major dive. And it won't help the Big East.
