DePaul, Wed. Feb. 17, 8pm, CBS SN (Radio n/a)

Nice move by coach to take out the starters at the 18: 21 mark of the second half. Once DePaul scored seven points to tie the game at 31-31 Mullin pulled everyone but Mvuoika allowing the tandem of Balamou, Mussini, Sima and Jones to regain the lead throughout the second half. BTW, the announcers never noticed the change.

Sima and Yawke got 20 rebounds together and were only on the court together for a very short period of time. Quite impressive. Great crowd today and nice to see the team win.

Great win
So happy for our players, coaches and fans
Glad to see CA still packed supporting these kids who have played so hard
Just a small taste of what's to come in the future
Look out Big East - the Johnnies will be solidly in the mix very soon

What a relief...

Oddly, first time in a long while I was yelling at TV hoping we don't blow a game.

Sorry to see Mvouika did went 0/7 , zero points in the win. Also thought Ali B would get some more time in 2nd half.

No complaints....a good way to end the day.

Channel 2 news just showed the replay of the DePaul player tripping over his own feet which this ncaa crew whistled as a foul on St. John's leading to a 3 point play.

Little do they know that this a business as usual call in college hoops

Why didn't Ron shoot FTs after the Ts?
We were in double bonus, refs blow whistle as M'Vouika is fouled, T is called on Wood. Mussini shoots the 2 T foul shots yet no M'Vouika foul shots. Wood complained to refs about M'Vouika hitting him in face, refs go to monitor. Maybe they called a football like off setting personal fouls? :silly: Don't really know what the heck they called as Mullin questioned it but didn't really argue much. Announcers never mentioned it. Guess it will remain one of life's mysteries. Just glad it wasn't a close game.

Why didn't Ron shoot FTs after the Ts?

First of all Ron was clearly fouled by Woods before the technical while we were in the bonus at the time. Mullin was seen on TV speaking to the refs, to no avail. But why?
I thought the refs were terrible, especially missing Sima's clubbing of Garrett before half time and Woods tripping on his own feet resulting in a layup and a foul shot.

One ref granted Ron the TO, the other said foul on DePaul. They went to the monitor to see what came first, and granted Ron the timeout, no foul (which should, IMO, take the T away from Wood, because he essentially argued a non-existent play).

That 3 point play by Wood was the dumbest call I've ever seen. Not only was there no foul, but the whistle blew, then he dribbled, and took the shot. The NBA wouldn't have granted continuation on that one. I was really hoping not to lose by 1 or 2 points after that one.

But, the Big East put two refs that I didn't recognize in this game, for obvious reasons. Probably low rated guys to begin with.

Some of the posters here who were too quick to write the kid off will be proven wrong. A young first year kid who has some skills and some liabilities. But should be a very good 4 year player.

Other than good size for a guard and being supremely confident, I did not see anything there. Appears I was wrong. Looks much better and under control
I too was a doubter as didn't see any flashes until the past 2 games during which I have seen potential. Good for him that he hung in and is developing

I thought it was going to take Ellison until maybe his junior year before he started making me look good for backing him when everyone else was picking him apart. He's already making me proud.

Yes, I think that is exactly what happen (granted a timeout prior to foul). However, it looked like one of the refs was saying that Mussini called timeout. Bizarre.

Great crowd.....great to get the win.

Got home about 30 minutes ago from the game and I'm sure all that needed to be commented on, was. But I just want to say how impressed I am with Mussini. The kid is fearless! He doesn't mind driving to the basket when he knows he going to get pounded, especially since he is usually the smallest guy on the court and probably the most lean when it comes to muscles mass! Plus, I love his foul shooting. I think he proved tonight how much more valuable he is coming off the bench.

Nice win. Good crowd. Absolutely horrendous refs.

Good night all.

what a relief! Nice to see Mussini back in the scoring column. Yakwe and Sima will spend a lot of time this summer on free throw shooting!

And weights.

And their 12' to 15' shooting. In other words, a very busy summer. That said, thrilled that they'll be here for a few more years.

Line went from Pk to DePaul -2.5. Everyone is taking DePaul, well except me , and Monte.
I just put a hundy on us too.

Fear the bobblehead tonight

With Sima, Mussini & Yakwe sitting out, I think you are one brave guy. :)

They didn't play ? I'm $100 richer though and go figure I went to the ranger game and they freaking lost

He certainly can still,be called for the technical even if there is no foul due to the TO. I assume it was because of his reaction/what he said to the ref. That doesn't change because the foul was waived off. Suppose he had taken the ball and threw it in the stands. Would that not be a technical even if there was no foul?

I know they can call the T, they shouldn't be able to, IMO. In that case, anything short of making purposeful physical contact with the ref should not be a T.

I equate it to hockey. Say a puck goes in and out of the net. It's ruled no goal, play continues. The other team scores. The refs go to the monitor to check the first shot, and rule that the puck went in. At that point, the first score counts, the other team's goal is nullified, and the clock is reset to when the goal would have been scored.

To me, the same thing should apply with what we saw tonight. But, you could also call it justice, after what happened at the end of the Xavier home game.
