Even without Williams we should have beaten Duke in the tournament. I donāt remember the specifics but I believe Williams injured his knee early in the season. He came back but was clearly not 100 percent before he reinjured it and was lost for the season. My recollection is that Singelton stepped up and played very well for us. And of course we had Werdann.I know I should know better than taking a thread off topic, but what the heck.
If not for Jayson Williams season ending injury, that particular team could have made a nice run. It was very good.
Williams and Harvey were both seniors who first team BE talents. They were perfectly complimenting one another as an inside, outside duo. As a sophomore, Malik Sealy was option #3.
After Willams went down, Harvey put the team on his back. He was clutch and made last second shots look easy.
But as usual, a pin was always within distance of puncturing SJUās balloon.
I had completely forgotten about Sealy's "almost" shot prior to the half until you mentioned it. I now recall his heave. Good call there, Ken.I remember Malik Sealy hitting a 75 foot heave just a tick after the halftime buzzer.
The Hallās Marco Lokar almost overshadowed Boo, but luckily we prevailed in OT.
I'll say it again, imagine Gary Payton on that team....Even without Williams we should have beaten Duke in the tournament. He would have fit that team like a glove.I'll say it again, imagine Gary Payton on that team....
Yes they should have won and advanced to the sweet 16. SJU was winning throughout and playing well. They frustrated Duke. Even Sean Muto gave them solid minutes off the bench. Then came the inane technical foul was called on Singleton. Totally turned the game around. Refs really played a large part in that outcome.Even without Williams we should have beaten Duke in the tournament.
