It’s kinda moot to say who drew up what. That’s shows ignorance of how this goes.

He’s the Associate head coach… of course he has something. Doesn’t mean anything if the players don’t execute.

Doesn’t mean anything if CMA doesn’t trust his coaches. It’s the worst argument, and it’s shows a complete lack of understanding when you try to use the staff against each other. Weak.

It’s a staff for a reason, and I’ve seen HOF defer to their staff for a good play. Nothing wrong with it.

People will complain about anything. Real sad.
I didn’t take his response as disparaging to CMA. Like you said it happens all the time, and those coaches would generally give the assistant credit as well.

been busy couple days- finally got to watching the tape.

Man... what a beautiful play to get a needed 3 with less than 3 seconds left. credit to the staff on that one. What planning/execution. That play is right there with the double high post screen/alley oop to Joel from the Butler home game... as the only plays I remember from this season lol...

Everything has already been said- ugly game- credit the kids for coming back and staying in there mentally- they had to be gassssed- 5 guys 40+ mins...impressive.

Let's see if Headband night can will us to another (yes another lol) top 25 win tomorrow night!

I completely disagree that it's moot.

For one, Van Macon has the reputation of being "mainly a recruiter" so him grabbing the whiteboard to draw up the play allows those with that notion to realize there's (obviously) more to Van than getting players.

Secondly, because he drew up the play, doesn't necessarily mean it's a dig at Coach Anderson. Like you said, an Asst Coach drawing up plays is nothing new, I think it's just more of a highlight of what an asset Van is and how assertive he was in the moment to get that done. We have lambasted the huddles and how players have looked disinterested or are talking over coach or not paying attention when he's giving his pep talks. That wasn't the case in this situation in the final moments. So it's more of propping up Van than slighting Coach Anderson.

I agree it doesn’t really matter what coach draws up a play.

But I think posters are correctly kinda asking the question of… what are we getting out of the deal here?

CMA inked a multi million dollar extension. He’s clearly not an X’s and O’s guy. His desired style of play (40 minutes of hell) has fizzled out year by year until it’s finally just turned into dust.

He’s not some hot shot recruiter. and not only that, but he doesn’t retain a big percentage of players he does get

We aren’t winning enough.

We haven’t made a tournament

We got invited to the NIT and had to decline cause no one wanted to f’n play for the guy anymore

What are we getting out of the deal at this point? Wins in February that mean nothing because we’ve already tanked our bubble chances? Sick

So no in a vacuum it doesn’t matter who draws up the play. But I could easily understand a St. John’s fan looking at it as another seminal moment that makes them go… “really? This is the guy we might not be able to afford to buy out?”
