@DePaul, Sun. Jan. 1, 2pm, FS1/570AM

I was very disappointed to see Sima leave
I really thought that he had a lot of potential
But had he stayed, Williams might have remained glued to the bench
I'm really glad that Williams has been given the opportunity to play
He's been nothing short of terrific working in tandem with Owens

Perhaps Sima left now because it was clear those guys were going to play over him a lot sooner than later, not to mention next year when reinforcements arrive

And unfortunately "advisors" chirping in his ear. No coincidence the OSU commitment happened so quickly. These guys are merchants.

You call them "merchants"
I call them "slime buckets"

"Flesh merchants" work better? :)

I believe the last time Darien was your avatar, it was right after Matt A signed on to be coach. Thanks for always putting some tea leaves up there. :)

Having spent 5 years or so on the AAU circuit, these guys strut around like they are NBA GMs, with an inflated sense of self worth. Often, they coach AAU teams with great hs players, and act like these are their franchises. Typically these guys are nobodys - working menial jobs if at all. They believe each of their star players are their assets, and given the chance will grab anything they can, from a free meal, to travel to an elite camp, or god forbid, some under the table cash to deliver a player. Players trust them because by and large there isn't a lot of reliable adult guidance and these kids believe the handler has their best intetest at heart. In reality it just feeds the notion of self importance for these dirtbags

Williams helped us win at DePaul Like him more than Sima

Will be interesting to see if we try to press Creighton. Made sense with Butler, given their primary ball handlers. Ditto with Depaul, whose guards are big and cagey, but can be a bit slow-footed. Creighton obviously a different animal with the best PG in the conference (and one of the best in the country IMO) and others who seem to be capable of handling the ball well against pressure.

The one place I like Amar is on the two man trap after the inbounds.

Don't know if this was mentioned earlier but did anyone hear announcer Simpkins call us Redmen twice.

Yes. He also rambled about some of the dumbest stuff I have ever heard from a commentator.

You can be the best in the country but it always comes down to match-ups Maybe if we put ellison on him elision's particular style of play just gives him problems optimistic aren't I

Between Simpkins, Ron Thompson, Donny Marshal, Jimmy Jackson I'd go with Simpkins as least annoying - by a long shot. I would include Custer in there too but at least he listened to me and stopped calling us "St John Red Storm"

I tweeted to FS1 about how bad Simpkins is/was.

Aside from repeatedly saying -- no make that repeated SHOUTING -- the blatantly obvious, the guy doesn't know when to shut up ... which in his case should be 90% of the time.

Every time I hear him say hashtag whatever I cringe and if he's got a PC game he goes into heavy homer mode, awful just awful.

That's like asking which highly infectious, virulent disease you'd rather have, they all are terrible but to me Simpkins comes off as the Village Idiot combined with the country bumpkin sitting around the general store playing checkers with a piece of straw stuck in his mouth eating a moon pie and drinking an RC cola.

Flannery O'Connor is impressed.

At least you have the option of turning the sound off. I've only been able to listen to the radio stream of most games and if I turn off the sound, well... John Minko's only way to describe a rebound is ..."into the hands of..." or if he doesn't know who grabbed the rebound. just "into the hands..". His catch phrase for fast break is "off to the races", which he seems to use every fast break. How many times can a professional announcer say "off to the races" in 40 minutes?

Sounded like he was trying to be a poor man Bill Raftery. Very poor.

My Dad actually called me during game to ask "who is that idiot commentator." Tried to explain who he was but my dad couldn't remember his distinguished career. In defense of Simpkins my dad doesn't know anyone's name and refers to every player from every game by their number. He will call me up about some random football game and tell me number 82 is really fast.
