@DePaul, Sun. Jan. 1, 2pm, FS1/570AM

Just watched it. Impressive win. Sure it's vs DePaul, but we showed good composure to chip away when down big. In particular, Ahmed really gave us a boost with his outside shooting. really good contributions from most of the guys. On to the next

To me it's mind boggling how Williams barely got PT , when in fact he is a respectable BE player. Very pleasant suprise. He and Bash should be getting most of the minutes at the 4. Ponds has been great, but I think many posters forgot that a healthy Lovett can be just as great. Even the announcer mentioned that those 2 might be the best offensive back court in the BE. Ellison clearly improving and got the most minutes today. I think of Funs comments every time I read about someone bashing Bash. An excellent addition to the team.Owens also had a nice game, love his energy. Other than the Lovett rumors, this has been an excellent couple is weeks as a fan. Nice road win. Team is learning how to win. Played gritty and hard.

Last comment, Ellison at times drives me crazy, but clearly is improving. Eight assists, getting ball to our three scorers, and no turnovers is beyond impressive.
It's only when he feels compelled to be the man. His gaffes are frustrating but overall he is improving.

The next thing Mullin and Co have to do is find a way to get Yakwe going and get Freudenberg to develop some more. If that happens this team will be very good come Big East Tournament time. Yakwe is key though.

Agree. Was thinking about this yesterday. Think he should give him 2-3 shots/moves to work on along with free throws and then call plays/sets that put him in a position to utilize (give him a green light and tell him to only be concerned with the process - not the results).

Recognize we are just getting into the BE season but Team is learning and progressing. Just what we were all hoping for.

Every win in conference play has to be fought for. Team is starting to get that. Could easily be 0 and 2, as both games up for grabs going into the last 2 minutes. As Mullin said in the post game quotes, you have to play all 40 minutes hard to grind out victories, especially on the road.

I was very disappointed to see Sima leave
I really thought that he had a lot of potential
But had he stayed, Williams might have remained glued to the bench
I'm really glad that Williams has been given the opportunity to play
He's been nothing short of terrific working in tandem with Owens

Not just a healthy Lovett, but a focused Lovett. He needs to bring it every game, not just the games that he feels like it. We can't afford to have one of our 2 best players not be all in.

“Both Marcus [LoVett] and Shamorie [Ponds] are really talented. They are a little bit different [players],” Mullin said. “Marcus has really great speed and can get to the paint. Shamorie is a little smoother with angles; but they’re both very unselfish. Tonight Malik [Ellison] played a great floor game as well. We really emphasize playing unselfishly on both sides of the ball.”

“All these experiences are very valuable. Even the tough losses, we have to learn from them,” St. John’s coach Chris Mullin said. “We had two good wins, but we didn’t get over excited. … Tonight in the first half we played OK. Our defense was a little lackadaisical. The second half we came out and held them to 33 points. We had 18 assists, so the ball was moving. I told them to win on the road you have to play 40 minutes. They hung in there, played well together and more importantly, trusted each other.”

The comment on second half defense and ball movement was spot on. DePaul may only win a couple of BE games or so, but it was impressive to see a young team be so poised in face of an opponent's scoring runs & make up deficits on the road. Any road win is to be valued.

This is really crazy. He sounds like a coach who knows what he's doing. I couldn't be happier that CM is getting a little relief from the poor start. Maybe, just maybe, he could become really good at this thing.

I was very disappointed to see Sima leave
I really thought that he had a lot of potential
But had he stayed, Williams might have remained glued to the bench
I'm really glad that Williams has been given the opportunity to play
He's been nothing short of terrific working in tandem with Owens

Perhaps Sima left now because it was clear those guys were going to play over him a lot sooner than later, not to mention next year when reinforcements arrive

I like using Yakwe on the press. His wingspan and athleticism can create havoc. The press has been a valuable tool over the last week and should be used on a regular basis to increase tempo and create turnovers

Even if that is true, it was a dumb move to leave mid-season
He lost a full year of eligibility in the process
Also no guarantee that Brown will academically qualify to play next season

Good analysis!

On this roster every player who can contribute will play.

And unfortunately "advisors" chirping in his ear. No coincidence the OSU commitment happened so quickly. These guys are merchants.
