DePaul, Mon. Jan. 16, 4:30pm, FS1/970AM

I think a lot of past players reside in the NY metro area. It would be great for the university to make a little fuss when they show up for a game. If a group of them are in the house we should make a big deal out of acknowledging their presence. I think it would add a lot to the atmosphere, and it is the right thing to do.

Duh, they honored the '59 and'65 NIT championship teams on the court. Butler game they acknowledged Willie Glass. ;)

Duh, It did not show that on TV. I think they should do all they do for past players. I didn't know or I would not have said anything.

Duh, it was during a time out, why would they show it? :) ;)

Look, let's not make a big deal over this. Watching the game on TV, the viewer would have no idea the school recognized the past players. Kudos to the university for doing it. The snide comment to the question that I asked was not necessary.

The ceremonies were mentioned a few times during the week on this and other threads, just saying. I think the snideness was the result of you bringing this up 1 day after the first time I can recall the school doing anything substantial of that sort in a while. Was more of a, what a silly coincidence thing. No biggie.

Please get Ahmed off the court, are you kidding me!!

14 points, 7 rebounds three assists, get him off the court, let's give Alimakeawish some run, are you kidding me, several exclamation points.

Which of course gives him the freedom to jack and bull rush rather than run clock at the end of the game. But I understand the nuances of playing intelligent, winning basketball go right over your head. I wonder at your response had AA made such dumb plays.

It's a shame Bobby Kelly doesn't have any more eligibility, then you could watch nuanced intelligent winning basketball again.

Sparnakle called it right he is a wild card. Don't know what he will do from possession to possession. Ellison is like that as well.
If we are better next year I wouldn't mind Ahmad coming off the bench. If he is playing well great, if he plays like a nut he gets yanked.

It's pretty [strike]nuanced[/strike] obvious that he forces things and doesn't always make the best decisions. But he plays hard, he rebounds, and he's the only big man we have who can score. Despite which he takes a lot of heat.

We've had a bunch of JUCOs who struggled their junior year and picked it up the next: Brownlee, Hardy and James Scott, of whom Ahmed reminds me more and more, to the extent I can remember 20 years ago.

Just because he is our best (and only) front court scorer does not mean he should not pull up some bench when he does the me against everyone act. That being said, in general, he needs to be on the court more than off of it (even with the occasional sit here and think about it time on the bench). I totally agree with you on Hardy and Brownlee but don't recall Scott picking it up his second year (and that could just be me not remembering 20 years ago to well :) :) :)

I'm not suggesting BA's perfect or should be immune from criticism or that he doesn't have flaws. They all have flaws. But there are people don't like his game and so overreact to his mistakes and are underwhelmed by his production. Someone on this board called him "a bust." He's averaging 12 points and 6 rebound, which is about what Brownlee averaged as a senior and what Ron Artest averaged as a freshman. Those are not apples to apples comparisons but they're pretty good numbers regardless. Nobody talks about the good things he does, they talk about why he should sit on the bench for his own good. Well, to bring things full circle, next time Missini dribbles the ball off his feet out of bounds which he does once a game I want to see a bunch of GET THAT MUSSINI OUT OF THERE!!!!      posts.

PS I think I remember Scott never missing, especially from the left baseline. But maybe that was Malik Sealy. Who knows. Some guy in short shorts never missed from there unless I conjured the whole thing from cloth. Which is entirely possible, as I couldn't tell you what I had for lunch two days ago.

I remember both of them but there was nobody who could drain it from the corner like Malik.

Kred
Was at the DePaul game Monday and was daydreaming (just briefly :) )
and looking at the banners...
Malik Sealy and Sonny as in money Dove died much too early! Good basketball players and better men. Bless them both!!

All the best...

Wow, what a walk back; me, I don't like his game but certainly understand he needs to get significant minutes. He has talent but little concept of a team game. Like many (not all) modern players, he can make plays but has little clue of how to play the game the right way.

What did I walk back, my statement that Ahmed is a perfect basketball player who should play 40 minutes every game and be immune from criticism?

They call them straw men because they lack brains.

Like many (not all) modern players, he can make plays but has little clue of how to play the game the right way.

Yeah, those darn modern players who don't play the game the right way, like they did in your day as memorialized in the classic documentary Hoosiers. Next thing you know they'll legalize dunking. And what's with those baggy shorts and tattoos, amirite?

The one thing about BA and yeah he is definitely like a bull in a china shop sometimes and as we get better I think he will play better the one thing I like his is aggressiveness down low and he seems like the only guy that we can get to draw fouls down low on people. Maybe out other guys do it just seems like BA is the most aggressive doing it.

He isn't the only one who makes plays that scratch your head sometimes which I guess for me is why I don't mind as much since he is aggressive but I do understand the frustration from others to an extent.

I think he can put up really good numbers next year if we can get another front court scoring option or if Malik develops into the really solid 3rd guard or small forward moving Bashir around between the 3 and 4 but where we don't have 2 other guys on the floor at the same time with him who can't score or score minimally

My only frustration with BA is the skill set is there, but thought staff would have gotten him to play more in flow of game by now. No doubt he needs to play & like a few posters have said, he'll probably improve his second year.

Its not so much BA's turnovers, but his decisions with the ball which oftentimes lead to turnovers and ill advised shots. Of our top 8 rotations guys + Sima while he was here, BA has the lowest shooting % and highest turnover rate on the team, both by pretty good margin. So if people are screaming "get him out of there" way more than they do anyone else, it's just because at the moment he gives them more of reason to scream.

Bashir is great from the corners and not so good up top on threes. He shoots a very low percentage on his drives which often result in turnovers. He needs to receive the ball in positions where he can score or kick the ball outside to one of our pretty good 3 point shooters. His rebounding is decent and his free throw shooting is slightly below average. He has talent and if it could be harnassed we would be a lot better off for it as we don't have many other options.

his shooting form has been changing during the game for at least the last two games. he's trying to will the ball into the hoop thus the line drives on about 1/2 of his free throws instead of a consistent stroke. I watched when Mullin seemed to mumble something about it (wtf was that?) so he is aware and I hope to see his better form return to stay.

Also needs to hustle back on defense. Loafs back more often than not.

the thing for me about this year there are some game where I think WOW on offense I really see what the staff wants to do and even if we miss shots I don't care although the defense usually always sucks.

Then there are other games where I think WTF is this shite on the offensive end with the dribble hold or dribble into the crorner of the pass and hold onto the ball BS. It's like a tale of 2 teams

Last year when Missini was shooting 33 percent from the floor and 30 percent from three and turning the ball over two and a half times per game - other than half a TO and half an assist per game BA is better by every metric - was anyone screaming get him out of there with a bunch of exclamation points? No they weren't, they were making excuses for his play and still are. So it's not just because Ahmed gives them more of a reason to, is it.

This team is full of flawed players who make lots of mistakes all the time and make them over and over again. That's why they have a losing record. They don't have a losing record because Mullin doesn't GET AHMED OUT OF THERE !!!!

Ok, I'll bite - you attacked me with your overwhelmingly intimidating wit over a comment I made referring to a specific one minute or so stretch when Ahmed played completely out of control; when time and score dictated otherwise (something I realize you can't take into account because it requires real understanding and more importantly, the ability to think.) . When did I ever say his minutes should go to AA; which was , per your usual, a sarcastic and completely irrelevant reply?
As to playing the game the right way, yeah playing to time and score, running clock at the end of the game, passing the ball once in a while, are just totally outdated strategies, thanks for enlightening me. I was also floored and impressed, really in awe of your Hoosier reference you are like a modern day Will Rogers.

No one screamed to get anyone out last year, least of all my boy Mussini who's shooting % went down as he wore down from carrying the team on his back ;) . Plus I think we were all realistic that we had to pretty much suck it all up last year since it was a lost year. To a large degree we have to live and die with Ahmed this year. If he hits one or two more of his shots a game, and has one less turnover, he becomes an efficient a highly valuable weapon that no one is screaming at. With a bit more discipline that's doable. Doesn't seem all that hard. But then neither does trying to discipline an undisciplined .250 hitter so he gets one more hit a week and becomes a .300 hitter.

I'm thinking I'll have chicken parm for lunch today.

I get that Ahmed is frustrating. He is. Unfortunately to Fun's point he is our third best player. So yeah frustrating as hell but really what is the point of complaining? He certainly has to play and play big minutes. Everyone blows sunshine up Matt A's arse so if you can't stand Ahmed, Matt A has to go out and get 3 more guys that are better than him and he then come off the bench. Until that happens you have to hope he plays well for us to have a chance to be in games.

Ok, I'll bite - you attacked me

I didn't attack you you thin skinned big girl's blouse. When I attack you you'll know it. I posted Ahmed's statistics and added four words of snark to delight my many fans. Sorry if you felt buwwied.

with your overwhelmingly intimidating wit

You had me at hello.

over a comment I made referring to a specific one minute or so stretch when Ahmed played completely out of control

How am I supposed to know when you made your comment or what specific event it referred to? You posted GET AHMED OUT OF THERE possibly all in all capital letters with exclamation points and emojis!!!! You want to go back and explain the nuanced points you were making and their context fine, but in normal internet intercourse that's how mental patients talk. They scream and and add pointless punctuation!!!! and pictures at the end

when time and score dictated otherwise (something I realize you can't take into account because it requires real understanding and more importantly, the ability to think.) .

Yeah golly grandma, explain basketball to me, because it's beyond my ability to think. It's rocket science, nearly. Maybe you can help me out: what's this score thing you mentioned, that sounds complicated and son't get me started on time, that's a doozy, I tried reading a book about it once by that guy in the wheel chair with the voice box and I couldn't get past the dedication.

When did I ever say his minutes should go to AA; which was , per your usual, a sarcastic and completely irrelevant reply?

You didn't say that I did. Because if Ahmed goes out some other stiff has to some in. I picked Alibabaandthefortytheives because it amuses me to misspell his name. That you failed to get it is proof of the old adage about whom irony is wasted on.

Strong ending paragraph but it might have been better had you updated your Will Rogers reference to someone more current, like Mort Sahl or Les Crane. You know, so the kids would get it.

Despite his flaws this year, Ahmed will be a part of core rotation next year & if he refines his game could be a player opponents worry about. Mussini in my opinion won't see much time if LoVett remains & Simon, Ellison & Ponds fill out the backcourt. That said, he'll have his chances this year to try and do what he was brought here for, shoot. Since this year does not mean much, I'm buying Ahmed futures.
