DePaul Game

Has Lavin ever drawn up a play? And I'm not talking about this season or even with SJU. Has he ever drawn up a play in the half court offense other than iso? Absolutely pathetic job by him today. This isn't Jordans fault. If anything, he is the reason we made it that far in the game.

I had no problem with the play.
Its a standard end of game pick and isolation.
We used a variation with Hardy at the end of the Villanova and Pitt games in 2010 and people thought it was ingenious.
if Jordan was a threat to step back and hit a jumper like Hardy or Kemba...it becomes 10x more effective.

But this is the same team that just beat providence, other than we didn't hit 50+% of our 3s, we hit 16%. I don't know why people are jumping off a cliff. How could you love the team on weds and be so upset today? They played very similar.

Ive got no problem with the call. But everyone playing and watching, including Garrett Jr, knew what Jordan was going to do. He telegraphed it. And when he got stopped there was no back-up option.

Biggest play was Simpson three form corner when DePaul was down 2. Changed the complexity after Dom's huge slam should have given the Johnnie's the momentum to win

A lot of anger on this board right now. We can't change the score. They need to put this behind them and get ready for Marquette.

Agree.
But that sucked.

Take down MARQUETTE!!

We still not out!

If we lose to Marq then yeah we are out and whoever thinks we're not at 1-5 are living in a dreamland.
No reason not to beat Marquette.

No reason not to beat DePaul either

Sorry, guys. I just realized that this one was all on me. I didn't wear my red plaid boxers and my Redmen hat today.

I believe this loss probably cost us the NCAAs. People keep throwing out the loss to DePaul last year and the 0-5 start and how we rallied like that's supposed to mean something. We have 7 players right now (throwing in Amar).

I really don't know how the lack of depth and also inconsistency from Jordan, branch, and Greene can lead us to a bid. Hopefully we rally. But I don't see it.

It hurts, it hurts for us all, but please try to stop posting ridiculous comments, bashing Jordan, the only player on the floor that wanted the ball late. He made play after play down the stretch on offense and made one bad one at the end, and I blame obkepa there for not seeing Greene in the corner.

We move, on try to beat Marquette. But this was a must win. And well, we didn't win.

Jack in spite of AA's serviceable minutes the last couple of games, we still only have 6 players that we can count on relatively consistently. And unless he can be counted on during crunch time, and he hasn't done anything to show that he can, I don't see how we can consider him part of the rotation.

Marquette is not a guaranteed W either. Team may be looking ahead to Duke and they've gotten better as the seasons moved along. They look much better than they did beginning of season. Wojo better coach than Lavin.

The backup plan was to hit a wide open jump shooter like Greene. It comes down to execution and Jordan just didn't execute

It's silly to say this loss cost us the NCAA's. Will it make our path a lot harder? Obviously. However, we still need to beat good teams in order to make it. We're just making it harder on ourselves

Putting Garrett with four fouls, on Jordan was smart move. He blew by other guys, not Garrett.

3 rebounds for Obepka in 35 mins on the floor. That's just horrendous. Between Dom and Obepka, they had 4 rebounds. That just can't happen. In contrast, Amar had 5 in 16 mins on the floor.

AA actually had 5

My bad, didn't read last line lol

Blaming the wizard for this loss is ridiculous.  First, give credit to DePaul for hitting crucial 3 pointers and for hitting the boards like men vs. boys.
Credit will not be given to these horrendous Big East refs who missed at least 3 calls and one where Harrison was mugged and all but butt fkd.
As for our redmen, Pointer and Obekpa were boxed out smartly by the Blue Demons rendering both useless in the rebounding department.  The rebounding margin was mostly due to their deficiency. Amar grabbed 5 rebs in limited action and his speed and aggressive play was huge when Obekpa collected his usual knucklehead fouls.
Harrison was banged up liked a waterfront whore. He had his worst game of the season.  One criticism I have for Lavin was not designing some isolation plays for Rysheed against Billy Garrett who played with 4 fouls most of the 2nd half. This loss may hurt come selection Sunday but DePaul is not as bad a club as some think. The refs put Garrett on the line 13 times and the kid shot 100 %.  We do not have a forward with Henry's shooting or aggressive rebounding and with Pointer reverting to being unproductive, our  only advantage in the game was Rysheed and Green. That will never be enough to win in this conference regardless who was coaching St. John's today.  The game was lost in O/T and Lavin is starting to use Amar because Christian Jones is a liability.  As it was last season, the NCAA will come do to the Big East tourney where anything is possible.
On to Marquette and anyone who sells their Duke tickets is a pussy, plain and simple.

Sickening loss. Even when Jordan plays a decent game he can't be counted on to make a smart decision with the game on the line

decent game?
he was the best player on the floor today.

Decent at best IMO, OK on offense, poor on defense.

I have Seattle in a teaser laying 1. This just took some of sting out of SJU loss
