Departures Thread

Still think there needs to be some sort of contract between school and player. Maybe 2 years or 3 years. If, during that period, a player gets "cut", he's free to go wherever he wants without penalty. If he chooses to leave he sits a year. Pros don't just get to decide to walk out on a contract if, for instance, they are told they're no longer starting.

Obviously there are details related to NIL, etc that need to be hashed out, but this current pro/amateur hybrid model definitely ain't working.

And if it is, who can blame him? Don’t know his financial circumstances. Even with superior coaching most kids won’t make the NBA. I wish him luck.
I've heard mom has a good job, so finances are not an issue aside from what every other kid who can get NIL has done this offseason -- shop themselves.

It didn't work out here, and staff decided to move on.

From what I've seen, mom isn't nearly the problem that Cam Mack's mom was. Nor do I expect Gardner to have the same wanderlust that Mack had. Could I be wrong on that last part? Maybe. But if you are getting USC NIL, do you get more by transferring to a lower level because of freshman PT?

I like the USC coach, so we'll see what he gets from Gardner.

With all the tampering, most programs are on a year-to-year basis with these kids more than ever, and to be honest, I still think in that scenario Lendeborg was the bigger loss at the time. But I guess we'll see on that too.

What the mom does for a living is irrelevant when it comes to demanding more NIL $ for a kid, even before he has played a single college game.

Gardner wasn't the first incoming freshman to do it, nor will he be the last.

The system the NCAA created sucks, but it's only my problem when it interferes with my team, which it really didn't in this case.

I think Curbelo is suffering from some real mental health issues. I know his antics were frustrating and materially hurt the team last year, but I wish posters wouldn’t resort to calling him names. I think it must be awful to struggle with his issues.
You're both just speculating with no real information, so yes, you could be correct. He could have some serious mental health issues, but also yes, he could just be an ass hat. Quite frankly, I don't really care either way as my issue was that he was infuriating to watch on the court.
