Delaware St., Tues. Nov. 29, 6:30pm, FS2/970AM

This was a very tough watch. My chief concerns...........

-The team looked listless and uninspired. Delaware State clearly wanted the game more.

-We might have more talent, but at this moment in time, Delaware State knows how to play the game of basketball much better than us.

-Alibegovic and Owens may not be our best players, but at least they're aggressive and play with some fire. I would have tried to get a spark from them tonight.

-Question: Do our big men grease their hands with butter prior to the game

-No adjustments on defense throughout the second half was maddening.

I am fully vested and supportive of this staff. I believe things will get much better and, truthfully, we need them to. After all, it is extremely important for the Mullin era to be successful. Hopefully we can add some coaching experience to that bench.

Agree Johnny. Mullin was clearly outcoached.

Unfortunately the MEAC teams will attempt schedule StJohn's as a "cupcake" game.

The team looks worse each time they play. If this keeps up they should forfeit the rest of the schedule and avoid more embarrassment.

I'm thinking we're on a five year plan to mediocrity.

disgusting....to save face Mullin will fire St Jean and bring in a legit "coach". Somewhere Slice is pissing in his pants. Soon to be heard at MSG.."Bring Back Jarvis"!!! We are all stunned to say the least. Tons of talent, Zero coaching, Zero heart by players. Hint: Ponds will transfer to in 2017, and i don't blame him.

This was a very disappointing game. We needed to come out and make Delaware State uncomfortable. Instead we played horrendous defense and allowed them to control the flow of the game.

A few things that I wondered about during and after the game in no particular order.

1. Why didn't Lovett start again? That is two of the three home games. I guess another disciplinary problem.
2. Was Slice on to something with the need to bring in better talent sooner?
3. Why doesn't anyone play help defense?
4. Should we press earlier on in games as we are not very good playing defense in the half court?
5. Ahmed was terrific today when he wasn't throwing an elbow. Can we get him to stop doing this?
6. Why don't we set up plays for Lovett and Ponds to attack the basket?
7. What is our best lineup?

It is number 7 that is so concerning. Clearly Lovett and Ponds need to continue to log 35+ minutes. Ahmed should also if he could keep out of foul trouble. I know I am going to take some heat for this but so should Yawke. At least he can run and jump. Then who? It is easier to rule out the guys that cant contribute at all. (Ali,Darien and Malik). and those that have significant deficiencies (Owens,Freudenberg,Mussini and Sima) Wait that's everyone. I go back to point 2.

As i watched the best backcourt in our history hoist up shot after shot i could only imagine frank alagia making 4 teammates play together and look better

Wonder how much Delaware St. got paid by us to come play this game... all for an embarassing home loss

My guess is they started Mussini & Ellison as Del. State was probably anticipating Lovett.... That old gag of trying to confuse them, which clearly did not work.

Lovett
Ponds
Ahmed
Yakwe
Owens

I'd play them all for 30-35 next game or until Ahmed and Owens fouls out. No breaks until at least 5 min to go in first half. We have nothing to lose.

Let Walter give it a shot

 Disgraceful showing. Mullin, It's called defense, 79 points for a 1 & 5 team. Both Yakwe and Sima allowed their man to pop short jumpers. Add their poor rebounding and scoring. They couldn't score if left alone. And the porous defense allowed Delaware State to penetrate and score layups and short jumpers.
Ellison should have gotten a part in the new movie, " LA LA Land." As soon as he comes in with over five minutes remaining in the first half he looks away as Lovett bounces a pass to him on the high post.
The question is will Mullin reach at least 10 wins this season?

I'm afraid we will not win again this yr Based on how we are playing without any improvement each game ,coaching etc
Think the staff and players need a shake up . Do not know if that means firing some or benching some. Perhaps we might do better with a 6-7 man rotation

This is optimism. Ralph started the month planning a road trip to Nova and ended the month asking for a refund on his season ticket.

This game literally made me lose my desire to attend another St. John's game this year.
This loss was on everyone from players to coaches.  Mullin pulled a Lavin with the starting lineup.  Hopefully Sima and Lovett learned a lesson tonight.  The downside was he started Ellison and Mussini.
Other than the starting lineup the other change was the coaching staff's apparent lack of interest in coaching from start to finish.  The Delaware State coach zoned the Johnnies all game long and had his players exhibit good passing which resulted in mostly wide open shots, most of which went into the basket.  Mullin spent a lot of time rubbing his head, his face and gradually turning beet red from embarrassment.  Apparently having given up on his interior players Mullin's offensive game plan was to just hoist three pointers, most of which missed.  As I worried last year about the complete lack of defense, this year, with better players, we actually look worse.  That God Zach Brown signed because no talented bigs could be confident playing for this crew.  Sima, Yakwe, Alibegovic and Owens all look like they just stepped foot on campus even though they played and practiced with each other last year.
Mullin has been out coached in every game except for the rare games where the other team was totally devoid of talent and size.  This could all be biting off more than Mullin could chew on the early season schedule and tired and dejected players but the odd starting lineup, especially with the talentless Ellison starting, may be a sign of deeper problems.
Mullin looked punch drunk at the end of the game.  He looked like he didn't know what hit him.  He resembled Jeff Ruland in his final year at Iona.  I am actually worried that he may be over his head and that he will not handle more losing well.  Of course we will win some more games and it is obvious that we need to recruit over these one dimensional players but from the Slice divorce to the Mitch Richmond hiring, Mullin has not shown himself to be stable enough with staff and may have a false superiority complex as evidenced by choosing not to hire an actual coach to support him and his team and by making waves regarding the structure of the athletic department.
The other oddity is putting his house up for sale less than a year after closing.  An omen or just a lousy decision maker?  I am less worried about Mullin having two losing seasons or getting fired and more worried he will just throw in the towel.

When promising horses show this trend they turn them out on a farm for a few months. Too bad this isn't horse racing.

Most ominous sign for me is why was Lovett benched for the first 5 mins or so? This team needs a leader and it has to be him. Mullin also inexplicably sat him for a crucial stretch late in the Old Dominion game. Something does not smell right here.
