We have a front court of athletes with no skill but shot blocking. You cannot win games with NO INTERIOR OFFENSE AND NO INTERIOR DEFENSE. PERIOD. Feel bad for Marcus and Shamorie. Going to be a very long year and career at St John's unless one or two of the bigs has an epiphany. Yes they are skinny but that's not most of the problem. They are lost when they get the ball on offense and clueless on D. With several minutes to go and the gap closing the D State PG circled under the basket with Yakwe standing guard. The PG ran past him behind, received a pass 5-7 feet from the basket and hit an easy bucket. Yakwe glanced at him as he set to catch the pass and never took a step toward him. He has to see him circling under the basket and step out to defend the pass. Just no defensive instincts whatsoever. After that it was pretty much game over but there were plays like that on defense by most of the team the entire second half that I saw.
 
There's a lot of places to place blame, but for me, it's the frontcourt. Owens is shockingly awkward, and Sima and Yakwe are "new" to the game. We do not have nearly as much talent as we thought we had.

Are the players on scholarship given a 4-year ride or do they have to make the team each year?
 
Despite the shit storm, must say Ponds is a special player. So quick, talented & battles. Imagine if Providence got him.

I;m watching Rudolph right now on channel 2 and the misfit toys are singing their song and I can't help but think we are st johns the land of misfit fans
 
In the Post Carnesecca era, there have been many, many embarrassing losses.. Just Remember the Former Coach left this cupboard totally bare and deserved to be canned.. You can dump on Mullin all you want but, many of you forget how many awful losses occurred in the DLO, Harkless, Pointer,, Sampson Obepka era too!

Yeah, well they never won less than 13 games, this squad is about to do that for the second time, and they only had a losing record once. Again . . . .

I think it's year to year, however, if you cut a player it would be used against you big time in recruiting. Best case is to "convince" a player to transfer.

They (naysayers) got blinders on. 20 wins a year meant nothing to them, same as with Looie. Someone could do better but maybe not.
 
I know it's the season of giving but I literally the last thing I expected was to give that team a win
 
Right now Mullin=Failed Experiment. Good coaches like Pitino and Calhoun had experienced assistants like Ralph Willard and George Blaney respectively. Yet inexperienced Chris Mullin refuses to hire a veteran successful X and Os assistant. Let's hope our new AD has some authority and can impress upon Chris the need for one. The arrogance must stop or at 2 million per CM will turn out to be a bigger thief than our last one.
 
Not when he was a Frosh, he wouldn't .. Sima and Yakwe are looking a lot short of BE talent. How come no one is on Matt A's case for recruiting these guys, who are not instinctively BB Players.. it doesnt take much scouting skill to see the 2 of them are capable of 1 Thing, shot blocking..Not much else and they may never develop a complete game.

Face it, this team is Ponds and Lovett and pray for Rain.. Mullin needs another year to bring in a quality front court game. Mussini has his moments and does contribute .
