No - I don't think he is under a lot of outside pressure. As someone noted somewhere along here, if he wins an NCAA tournament game that puts him in elite company among SJU coaches in the past 20 years.

Whether it is a case of "this is just who he is" or "he feels the footsteps of Father Time" I have no idea, though.
If he wins an NCAA tournament game he will be in the company of no St John’s coaches in the past 20 years.

Tell me we are not a deep team with:

Deivon
Wilcher
Kadary
RJ Luis
Glover
Scott
Zuby
Prey
Dunlap
Iwuchukwu

That’s an extremely nasty top 10. Ayo even gets minutes and likely down the road Lefteris can too. That’s a deep team in every respect. I see 6 ready for prime time players and two to three more with potential to become that. But right now 6 is about all you can count on and that includes Kadary and Scott who have been less then stellar lately.
Of the depth you mention, Dunlap, even when healthy, to date, offered little. Prey is still learning the game and has defensive lapses. Glover has potential but as of now it’s still mostly potential. Vince is coming around but not as fast as I had hoped.

Are there a lot of teams in the BE who have a 7th man that’s really solid?

I believe there are especially if you are talking about the top 5 or 6 teams. Look I believe we have serviceable players to put in to spell our main guys, I just don’t see them as viable contributors.

Examples please besides UCONN?
I’ve watched other teams play and saw several kids who not only contributed but gave their respective team a lift. If you want examples of it watch other games yourself. I’m not going to waste time going through specific names. 😎👍

I just think the same could be said about our 7, 8, and 9. There aren’t several other BE teams who get significant contributions past their top 7.

Ok Silly since you don’t want to waste time on facts and prefer to do it on running down my favorite team I’ll do it for you: both Creighton and Marquettes 7th men score less than and play less minutes than Brady Dunlap.

I don’t think that Prey is still learning the game per se. He played against professionals in Europe. He’s learning Pitino’s system but I think you will see improvement from him every game as the season goes on. He has skills.

Don’t think we have great depth, do think we have necessary depth. Difference makers or not we have 7 foot and 6’11 off the bench and some athletic wings. And that’s with essentially 6 starters before them.

Asking for much more would be greedy
Given the amount of energy expended, on defense especially, if we are able to sub at each position without giving up too much in the score, it keeps our guys fresh, and IMNSHO has contributed to our 2nd half success.

I agree, my post pertained to…. “At this point in time”… of course I expect better contributions as the season moves on.

How about this. Instead of going off topic, how about sticking to the topic. The depth of this team. If you’re creating an argument, it’s an infantile approach. It’s like the 5 year old who is being critiqued for something and then saying…. “Well how about Susie or Joey or Tommy?”

And no one is “running down” your favorite team”, it’s a discussion regarding team depth….. try sticking to that. You’re a bit too sensitive, don’t ya think??

Exactly what I was doing comparing the playing statistics of our team to its main rivals in the league other than UCONN. Don’t quite see how that is off topic.
Care to cite any statistics to support your point or is that too much to ask?

It’s off topic because my posts refer to the contributions of our players, their point production etc. not those on other teams. While I did say that these kids are serviceable to the team to spell our guys who mead a breather, I was mostly referring to their offensive production. I believe it was Mase who brought up players on other teams which I may have responded to but was not my initial point.

I think you came on a little strong about my running down the team as well.

And you should hear their boards freaking out about how bad those 7th men are.

So what you're saying is that the depth and bench should be measured to your expectations, not to their comp set as would seem logical.

That’s pretty funny, but no not at all. It should be based on the current talent of the starting 5 or 6 on St. John’s not on other teams. To weaker teams, our 7th 8th or 9th player may seem significantly better. But “logically”, wouldn’t you base your depth on the ability if the starters?
