I’m going to try my best to never get Silly to post these silly takes anymore. I’m taking the Player Rating of the 6,7, and 8th highest players on each team on Bart Torvik regardless of if they start or not. Ranked in order of combined Player Rating score:

UConn:
Johnson - 2.1, Stewart - 1.9, Nowell -1.4
Total - 5.4

St. John’s:
Dunlap - 1.9, Wilcher -1.9, Prey - 1.0
Total - 4.8

Villanova:
Boayke - 2.2, Moseley - 1.4, Parker - .6
Total - 4.2

DePaul -
D’Amico - 1.4, Benson - 1.4, Enright -1.3
Total - 4.1

Creighton:
McAndrew - 1.8, King - 1.1, Traudt - .7
Total - 3.6

Xavier:
Fletcher - 1.7, Green - .9, Maddox - .9
Total - 3.5

Providence:
Abdul-Rahim - 1.2, Mela - 1.1, Erhunmwunse - 1.1
Total: 3.4

Marquette:
Owens - 1.3, Parham -.7, Hamilton -.7
Total - 2.7

Butler:
King - 1.3, Haywood - .6, Moore - .5
Total - 2.4

Georgetown:
Williams - 1.1, Burks - .8, Williams Jr. - .3
Total - 2.2

Seton Hall:
Felton - .1, Yalden - 0, Toumi - 0,
Total - .1

If you go outside the Big East to the top overall programs:
Auburn - 7.5
Tennessee - 4.8
Duke - 5.1

Statistically, St John’s has the 2nd best depth in the Big East, equivalent to #1 overall Tennessee, and Dunlap is tied for the 3rd best bench player in the Big East. Safe to say we have elite depth.

Stop with the facts already. Others have tried. This will lead to no good, as my Mom always warned me!

If he wins an NCAA tournament game he will be in the company of no St John’s coaches in the past 20 years.
Guys Pitino has always been driven. That is why he has achieved so much. Now there is the added driver of time. If he resurrects this program from the depths and wins another national championship here, he will widely be regarded as the greatest coach ever. Doing it at MSG and in a new nil era that drove many great coaches to quit. Doing not estimate his drive to win.

John Wooden on line one.

AButI don’t think that Prey is still learning the game per se. He played against professionals in Europe. He’s learning Pitino’s system but I think you will see improvement from him every game as the season goes on. He has skills.
Also another nuance. The Euro game is different . So it’s not just a new system but also a different game

That’s pretty funny, but no not at all. It should be based on the current talent of the starting 5 or 6 on St. John’s not on other teams. To weaker teams, our 7th 8th or 9th player may seem significantly better. But “logically”, wouldn’t you base your depth on the ability if the starters?
No, logically you base your depth on the quality of the bench.

When Billy Joel released “Only the Good Die Young” he was going to do a concert in St Louis, and the then bishop there asked that he not play that song since, in his view, it was disrespectful to Catholics. Joel played it twice. Kinda punk thing to do, but “artists” don’t like to be told what to do or perform.
I was a student then, and i dont think it went down that way. WSJU was a carrier current FM station in those days, with a range of slightly more than university boundaries. Father Cahill was walking through one of the lounges, sju hall maybe and the song was being played on the radio. He stopped and heard the words, and then banned the song from being played on wsju.

Joel in an unrelated action wanted to use alumni hall to.practice for an upcoming tour. He said the sessions would be open for free to students. He had wanted to hang heavy speakers from the ceiling and the school said no, so he went elsewhere. My frat ran student union for about ten years and they had top groups at Alumni Hall, including Chicago, James Taylor, Beach boys, the Kinks, and many many others. They had a t- shirt made that listed them all, but zbilly Joel was not going to be one of them.

I never heard that story and it certainly sounds legit, but I was referring to a concert he did in St Louis and the local bishop there.

The song certainly caused a lot of consternation in Catholic circles. Those were the days ( I was in high school) when the LI Catholic and other diocesan newspapers actually published lists of banned books, movies etc.

This surprises me. I've been a LI music lover forever and have seen many fine shows at area colleges: Hofstra, CW Post, Stonybrook and Nassau Community. I haven't seen any concerts at St. Johns.
This was all pretty incredible because it was organized and run by college students. Ticket sales, security, logistics, finances etc. They would pretty much sell the place out concert after concert. One of section3's great friends, Kenny DiCamillo, was imvolved in Student Union, and became a big time talent agent at William Morris. Through Section3, I tried to connect Kenny to our AD and he was receptive to help SJU. Sadly he passed away abruptly a couple of years ago.

Three years ago, while living outside Sacramento, my wife bought Beach Boys tickets for my birthday. They were playing at a hotel in Reno and featured Mike Love and Bruce Johnston. I told her I had seen them in Alumni Hall back in the 60’s when I was an undergraduate. She was shocked that St John’s had concerts. I told her I also attended a Bill Cosby concert there. Hopefully they kept the cheerleaders away from the floor that night.

I never knew CA was used for concerts and it made me think if CAs seating capacity was increased to eight or ten thousand could it be used for concerts to offset some of the building costs. There are a number of eighteen thousand seat arenas in the area and plenty of two or three thousand seat arenas but maybe an expanded CA would have some appeal.

But keep the one window model air conditioning system.

Funny you bring up Bill Cosby in response to a Beast post that referenced him…Kenny DiCamillo subsequently represented Cosby among others during his career at William Morris…Kenny also represented Regis and was brought on set a # of times

George Carlin and Southside Johnny (recently announced his retirement) and the Ashbury Jukes also performed at Alumni Hall while I was a student.
