Deivon Smith News

The thing that confuses me with Smith's quote is the injury wouldn't be the reason he's eligible. It would be that the NCAA made him sit out for two months, court overruled them, and then the court/NCAA agreed that whoever sat out for part of that year because of it would be able to have an additional year.

Giving Smith/Sim/RJ/Zuby an additional year together to mesh would be incredible.

what is our confidence level in a Sim/Lefty/Jaiden led backcourt? ... to me that has a ceiling of "mid- BE" backcourt...

I am assuming (perhaps incorrectly) that we will have to replace: Richmond, Luis, Smith and Scott for next year. Based on Pitino saying that he is not recruiting any High School players this go round, I am assuming that a deep dive into the portal will be his M.O. Can he replace these four with comparable talent? I have no clue, but given his Houdini like recruiting skills I wouldn't put it past him. If any of this year's players, that I see as departing, could come back that would be great. That said, college basketball in this era is much like Pro Sports free agency where you essentially are putting a new team out there every season.

In the mean time I am far more focused on our current season and will enjoy this group for as long as they will be playing games. Next year will take care of itself, in due time.

Must plan for Devion not being here; if by some struck of enormous good luck he gets another year, it would be gravy, icing on the cake, cherry on top.

If not, we move with original Plan A.

“I want to test out the draft process,” said Smith, who added he expects to graduate from St. John’s this spring or summer. “Hopefully we can win more games and I can keep showcasing my talent and my God-given ability and show the scouts. Hopefully I’m given that opportunity. I want to play basketball at the next level and at the highest level — the NBA. But whatever comes with it, I know it’s a business like everything else. I’m staying optimistic. Anything can happen.”

Correct not sure what the article means about injury.

In fact Deivon had his waiver to play immediately because of the multi-transfer rule denied by NCAA before the court ruling made everyone eligible.

I don’t understand the rules ? Including this year, smith has played 5 full years
of 22+ games. How is it possible that he gets a 6th ?
