D1 Coaching Changes
I don't see Billy Donovan leaving the pros right now.

On the other hand, I think Louisville will see if Chris Mack is interested and throw the moon at him. Mack has turned down plenty of big jobs, but Louisville is one of the best opportunities assuming they steer clear of any serious sanctions because of the Pitino stuff.
Anything is possible but I don’t see any reason for Mack to leave X. He played there , was a team captain, he is X through and through and is having great success there with minimal pressure. Yes Louisville could and would pay more but would the increased money change his life ? Anything is possible but I just don’t see it.

Don't see Mack leaving either. Aside from the reasons you mentioned, he's already turned Xavier into an elite program. Not many places are an upgrade.

After the last 2 minutes of the Florida State game I think he has fallen a few notches.

Half the bone-yard must be experiencing their first wet dream in a long time. Good for UConn. This could turn out to be a great, great fit.

Man, I really didn't want to hate Danny Hurley. . .

I'm going to cringe reading about Hurley himself out recruiting everywhere and us maybe having Matt at the game

With our luck, he hires Mike Rice as associate coach and brings in verbals from three top kids in the first week.

Oh crap, I didn't even think of that.

Well, this hurts. A resurgent UConn means losing more NYC area players as if we weren't losing enough already. Of course it's no guarantee he will succeed, but I have a hard time believing he won't have UConn back to a consistent top 25 program in a year or two. Like I've said, I thought the Mullin hire was interesting and worth a shot, but we have to know when to pull the plug. This is why I think it's so important to look at the stats and not let emotions and nostalgia cloud our judgement. Before we know it, Will Brown will be taken too and bringing another program back to power. And we may just be in year 10 of the Mullin experiment with fans explaining we just need one more year. Hope the Mullin experiment works out, but it hurts seeing all these local potential coaching candidates getting swept up. Only limits our options if the Mullin era fails. I realize I will get lots of fiery responses to this and go ahead. But I'm just tired of us making sexy hires instead of smart hires.

What is your suggestion in 10 words or less?

My alma mater just hired the associate head coach of Virginia. The last time UNCC hired an assistant didn’t workout so well. I don’t know anything about the guy.

Yes, a resurgent UCONN would be bad for St. John’s IF our people sleep on the job of recruiting and also are unsuccessful next year in the BEC.
Otherwise, it’s 50/50.
Frankly, UCONN’s campus ain’t nothing to write home about and it’s in the middle of nowhere.
My view is IF St. John’s has a winning program—we’ll get our share of good / very good recruits.
Danny Hurley at UCONN or not.
Make the right hire not the sexy hire.
Can't argue with that. No time capsules available, so let's see what CM & staff do this season.

Highly regarded, but it does often seem like a crapshoot to hire assistants.

Someone mentioned him on the board the other day -- slyfoxx maybe.

I jumped into this thread to post that you had a new coach. As LJSA said, he was discussed as a rising star here last week sometime.

Hurley senior was not about money. I thought he had extremely high morals which he passed on to his sons. But if Danny takes the job at one of , if not the most ,corrupt universities in all of college basketball, I was very wrong.
