Hopefully he hires Slice to return to Pitt and get him off our payroll.:pinch:
Not so sure I'd want Slice recruiting against us in the metro area.. (Great shot of Crean, by the way.)
As intended

He certainly didn't recruit for us, so I'm not worried about him recruiting against us.

And now my coaching predictions:

I don't think Danny Hurley will go to SHU. SHU could have had him earlier they stuck with Willard and now Hurley is out of their price range. (Willard makes $1.4 - Hurley makes $1M + lots of bonuses)

SHU next coach will be Shaheen Holloway.

UConn will offer Hurley $3M + he will turn them down.

UConn ends up with Mark Schmidt from the Bonnies as bigger names are scared off by UConn scandals and trying to fire Ollie for cause. Schmidt can't turn down what is likely to be a huge raise from UConn. (rumor is he makes 300k at St. Bon).

Penny to Memphis is the recruiting coop of the decade (this one is a no brainer)

Pittsburgh's search doesn't go as well as they planned and end up with Ron Sanchez (asso. coach at UVA), people aren't happy and then they are very happy when he exceeds expectations.

He's highly regarded in coaching circles, but yeah, fans would gripe.

I have only read very positive things about him. I just meant he would not be a "splashy" big name type hire.

Thank you, Carnac the Magnificent. :eek:hmy:

Per Jeff Jacobson Courant

“Danny Hurley, Frank Martin, Tom Crean and Thad Matta are coaches that athletic director David Benedict is believed to have targeted. According to multiple sources, Martin, currently the head coach at the University of South Carolina, has been in contact with UConn. A fiery personality in the Jim Calhoun mode, he is signed through 2022 but is said to be somewhat dismayed that South Carolina hasn’t made more of an investment into the basketball program after last year’s surprise run to the Final Four.”

"Fiery" indeed. But from what little I've seen of him, he makes Calhoun look contemplative (well, almost).

Tom Crean is finalizing an agreement to become the next coach at Georgia, sources tell ESPN.

That doesn't seem like a good fit to me.

Over and under on those six years?

Rumor has it Matta turned Ga. job down . It’s a football school competing in a very tough Conference for B.B. . I agree, not seeing where it’s Crean’s type of school . L’ville job will be open too, as soon as NIT is over for Cards ., Here’s a good one for L’ville . Billy Donovan .

Surprised Crean didn’t try for the Louisville job. If I’m him, I’d rather coach there than Georgia.

A strange hire IMO. I'll take the under.

Over under on Mullin for 6

Just thinking more about Pittsburgh with their 9 players opting out, I can't help but think about our own program. They're in a similar situation to what we've faced in the past with Norm's first year, Mullin's first year, etc. Have to recruit a full class off the bat, roster balance gets out of whack, and in year two have to start recruiting over year one's recruits to bring in better talent, likely leading to transfers, etc. Just not a good situation to be in. Unless they somehow land an amazing coach and recruiter who can sell the program, they're likely going to be down for awhile in the ACC.

Hiring Pitino is probably a bridge too far ......fetched.

That said, maybe they take a serious look at the Buffalo coach

This job has many characteristics of a career killer.

Unless Pitt is waving a ton of $$$$ can't see why most potential candidates would want to get involved.

He's doing all six, much to your chagrin.

I don't see Billy Donovan leaving the pros right now.

On the other hand, I think Louisville will see if Chris Mack is interested and throw the moon at him. Mack has turned down plenty of big jobs, but Louisville is one of the best opportunities assuming they steer clear of any serious sanctions because of the Pitino stuff.
