That's honestly the level he should be at these days if he doesn't want to play the whole recruiting game. You can fill a whole mid-major team from just North Carolina and the surrounding states. It's up to him to coach them up, or he'll be out of a job again in five years.

,@DickieV says Louisville job is Chris Mack's "if he wants it," but U of L asks for permission to talk to UK assistant Kenny Payne, a former Card who has support from group of former Card’s players
Chris Mack can coach but Kenny Payne can out-recruit Mack any day. In the ACC you are not going to be in the upper level with just coaching.
There is not a team in the country that would take Kenny Payne as a coach over Chris Mack.
Unless that team is his alma mater and some boosters prefer a favorite son.
Sound familiar??????
We were short of options... Louisville will have exhausted Chris Mack, Mick Cronin etc. before they settle on Kenny Payne.
Short of options?
It's not like they formed a search committee and came up with only Mullin.
Boosters didn’t have a chance to weigh in as it was a done deal.

Could have formed a search committee and they could have come up with more names but guys like Mack, Cronin, Holtman weren’t coming. Maybe Danny Hurley or Archie Miller
You would hope if there was a search committee they would have either:

a) found someone who had excelled at the job and would hopefully bring that type of success to the program
or
b) found someone who had paid their dues in the industry with steady increases in responsibility and levels of success that seemed ready to take the next step in a highly competitive industry

That's kinda what I try and do when I'm hiring.

Noted. However we have also used committees previously and Frachilla and his successor Jarvis were the results.. Both brought great promise at the beginning but flamed out quickly.

Looks like Cox got Rhody job

@YianniKourakis
Enormous for #URI - 4 -star recruit commits to staying with Rams. This implies he is confident Dave Cox is getting the head coaching job -the guy who secured his recruitment. That or he is committed to program regardless.

Jermaine Harris

Rhode Island is home now baby

The Louisville Cardinals and current Xavier Musketeers head basketball coach Chris Mack remain in the midst of contract negotiations, multiple sources have informed FanRag Sports. Barring something unforeseen, Mack will become the ACC program’s next head coach.

An official announcement is expected soon.

St. Bonaventure’s Mark Schmidt and Buffalo’s Nate Oats are both out of Pittsburgh search, sources told ESPN. Looks like the Panthers are closing in on another candidate.
Jeff Capel got Pitt job
Here's the article.

http://www.espn.com/mens-college-ba...rgh-panthers-hiring-duke-assistant-jeff-capel

A couple of random thoughts on this:

1. I guess that Coach K has no plans to retire anytime soon. If he did, you'd think that Capel might want to hold out for that job.

2 (and this is REALLY random, but it popped into my mind). If Bill Belichick were a college coach, how do you think he would feel about one of his assistants leaving to become a head coach IN THE SAME CONFERENCE? We know that Mangini taking the Jets job ruined that relationship. Kudos to Coach K for (presumably) giving Capel and Pitt his blessing on this.

Mike , be strong in your opinion as you were and it is noted appropriately but, without the icons of attempted humor or discontent . Ok ? Lavin greatly benefited from Norm’s 9 Seniors folly , didn’t he ? It was one of his NCAA teams here . Of which there were only 2 . Who gets credit for the players ? Norm or Steve ? Lavin only recruited well his first year with DLO, Harkless , Sampson, Greene , Pointer , Garrett, . Jordan and Obepka came later . Steve rode that Group for nearly all his time here and exited before the 1 and 17 BE Season that Mullin had to endure because Steve didn’t bring in anyone ! And , despite all the hoops of DLO, Pointer , Branch , etc . They had a terrible record their Freshman year , maybe a Mediocre Soph and Junior year and a first round and out NCAA Senior year . And , you Herald that ? I do give Lavin credit as he was a OK Coach . Not as good as you make him to be though . Mullin has had to rebuild from Lavin ‘s last Recruiting Class and who were they again ? I am not sure you are just Anti Mullin or Pro Steve ? And , I don’t recall such Lavin Loveness when he was here Coaching non chalantly on the sidelines with his smirk and folded arms ? Looking bewildered as he often did by what was happening on the Court . Have you forgotten ? You pick on Mullin for Nits , like not wearing a tie or sitting on the Scorer’s table. Why ? How about Lavin with his Sneakers and suit clothes . White sneakers that clashed . I don’t want a pissy contest with you but, let’s disagree civilly and not to a Street level of trash talking . You are a long time fan and respected by me and numerous others . I would expect the same in return , even if disagreement occurs . Thanks .

Suddenly becoming imperative that Ponds returns. Losing Mack, Macura, Blueitt, Xavier will take major step back next season, and so will Creighton and obviously Seton hall. The door will be wide open for SJU next year if they want to step up and win some big east conference games
Mack to Louisville official - 7 years $4 million per.
Hopefully, he takes his punk assistant who put his hand on Bashir Ahmed with him, too. That's really what started that whole thing a few weeks back.

Big question now becomes whether Xavier AD Greg Christopher elevates assistant Travis Steele or looks outside.

Pegues is the one that I thought acted improperly. Goodbye and Good Riddance to him.

No offense, but you don't want a "pissing contest," but you continue to "relieve yourself" with this same stuff at every turn. I'm sure many already know where you stand (choosing sides like this is politics), and your posts reeks of disingenuity.

Just keep making up excuses, while I'll hope for wins and an ascension of the men's basketball program.

Hey, maybe SH's Willard to X so as not to confuse their players.
