CW Post

To me 24 assists tells the story. I didn't expect air tight defense at this stage of the game but to see so many touted kids share the ball like they did really showed me something. Any one of these guys could have taken over the game and gone for 35 but they played together. Looks like they've already figured out that they all will succeed if the team does. That's really great to see so early. Now THESE appear to be the character guys our former coaches used to talk about. The "D" will come around but I think the scoring droughts are over.
Agree and was very impressed by the mental outlook the team displayed. However I am sure you share my disappointment in the amount of playing time given to S. Evans. Thank god Polee transferred. :)

Do not see offense ,shooting from outside a problem. They will score against anyone and will get to the rim. But we must hold teams in check on the defensive end.,and at least match the other side rebound to rebound. Then you could go by the addage as long as you can outscore you opponent you win. But if are are getting pushed around and have a large rebounding disadvatage the to win we would have to hav a very high shooting % which you wibe able an night out in our league

high-lights shown of the CWP game on this site show young players with remarkable talent.with tremendous upside. See great things eventually from this team once the learning curve hs been reached. Thinks hey arthe best Freshman SJU has had fora long long time

We'll be under the radar again. People will see us when we play Zona though. The talent will be evident. Tough matchup, but they aren't huge either and are young. Remember, they might not have their one experienced player in Parrom.

They still have Solomon Hill, Kyle Fogg and Jordin Mayes. Not to mention, Hill and Fogg played pretty solidly during 'Zona's tourney run.

And they have Turner and Sidiki. But losing Williams, Momo and Parrom is a lot.

I think we will win 1 of these MSG games. Just not sure which one.

They have turner, but IMO our guards can handle their guards. We can't guard turner off the dribble, but we will be playing zone so we won't have to. We have to tighten that zone up, ats all. Sidiki will have his hands full with God and Mo as well. I think we can really send a message by coming out and upending Zona.

I think a lot of zona's tourney run was sparked by the play of MoMo and Williams. Without them it will be a different team. No doubt they have a lot of talent. I just think we need to make a run at them early and grab some attention. Our guards are more than talented enough offensively to give them a lot of trouble. If we can clog the middle a bit with the zone, I think we can make a statement. Our guys are going to be loving their first time in MSG and it will be great to watch.

I've watched the Post game a couple of times now and am willing to go out on a limb right here and now:

There is no question in my mind that this Saint John's team is capable of being ranked in the top 10 in Division 2.

Oh sure, I can hear the doubters now. No doubt some of you are thinking that there may be some D2 teams that have rosters where fully 40 percent of the players are not under 6 feet tall and the tallest player is above 6'5". And sure, there might be some D2 coaches who possess even more strategical acumen than the genyious that is Chris Casey, architect of the vaunted Gene Lawrence to Justin Burrel dribble dribble faux pick and roll offense that served the Johnnies so well during the Betlejuice years. To these doubters I say: BWAH and DOUBLE BWAH and also HUMBUG!

When was the last time we scored 100 points! And in fact if we'd shot better than 40 percent from the free throw line the margin of victory would have been even greater! And with 24 assists! Not to mention that we managed exactly as many rebounds as the CW Post Midgets. Sorry, did I say Midgets, I meant Pioneers. And sure, Stephan Bonneau dropped 28 on us, but come on, I mean Stephan Bonneau, he's a special player. (Had we employed the Pentagon and None we could have shut him down entirely but I suspect we're saving that for conference play.) Even out walk ons looked good. I was especially impressed by Jamal White, who reminds me of Mel Davis.

This was the defining exhibition win of assistant coach Mike Dunlap's career. You naysayers really need to get a life.

Lol, I see your point. I've still been watching SJU for enough years to know that this team is real athletic and can put up points. Sure the competition wasn't real good, but many of us remember year after year of SJU teams where we'd pray for a basket in a 10 minute span. This team isn't like those teams. No, cw post wasnt any sort of measuring stick except to look at the undeniable talent of a bunch of our guys. Fun, you think Jasiulionis would have looked as Achiuwa regardless of the opponent? I like that our guys can put the ball in the hoop. We're a long way from any real success though and we may not see it this year with a thin roster and lack of post players.

LOL!
This kid Stefan Bonneau can play on any Big East team IMO. Kid has all the skills of Erving Walker from CTK and more. Yes, Post was very small but, as I tell my wife, what is 2 or 3 fewer inches when you still get the same results!!
Yes, as you pointed out Post is nationally ranked but due to their success at D2 there is talk of upgrading to D1 in both basketball and football and applying to the Big East!! This has Villanova in a tizzy as they feel they have first dibs on moving a successful lower tier football program up before a school named after a cereal!!

The point is that our recent teams couldn't have accumulated 24 assists against a team of fire hydrants. This was a team of living, breathing basketball players with something to prove. There was no pass it around the perimeter and throw it to Hardy for the desperation jumper type stuff either. Every one of the new guys is a threat and we haven't been able to say that for an awful long time. Sure there are concerns. What's news about that? Those will linger until we're up to a full roster. I would just say so far so good and hats off to Dunlap for handling the challenge so well too.

How can you not watch the game and see how much better these players are in basically every aspect of the game than weve had in a long time? Even though it was an exhibition game against a division II apponent.

Watching this team will be so much more enjoyable then any team weve had in a long long time (and ill go out on a limb and say maybe ever) no matter what their record ends up being.

i'll concede we'll finish below .500 in the big east with a few big upsets to show for it. that being said, it's no secret we ran into the ole defense. however, you have to love how quick we got to the basket...and finished. we probably would have won this game by 30 two years ago...but the score would have been 75-45. this was much more fun to watch.

I'm sure everyone, including Fun, agrees with that but expectations need to be tempered, and I'm not just talking about Dee. I hope and don't think it impossible that the team surprises many of the faithful including myself but to EXPECT any grand success out of this short (in both uses of the term) and inexperienced, though no doubt talented, roster is setting oneself up for disappointment if the probable results occur.

Bonneau is a Division I talent. He was recruited by Norm and would've been with us if he would of had the grades.
