Cuse Leaving in 2013

Never play Syracuse again nor should any BEteam play them again. They wanted a few bucks and they got it.
Now its like your former wife who left you for another. We will meet them at big events (NCAA) but along with the moneycomesnew surroundings in Talahassse, Raleigh, Durham, and Clemson where their loyal alumni can get in line for tickets that aren't there.
It's harsh but that's what you get when you take advantage of a one time situation to benefit on the backs of long term friends.

Believe Monasch has said publically that we will still look to play them.

I think we should.
They're one of our long term rivals, and outside of Georgetown, we probably have more history with them than any other team. Fans want to see St Johns play Syracuse.
Texas AM screwed the Big 12, but Texas has said they're still going to schedule the rivalry as often as they can. Same with Nebraska and Oklahoma.

Why play them ever again at the garden? That helps a traitor gain NYC publicity where they call a 2nd home,
they screwed the tradition not us soo screw them!!!!! :yell: the rivarly is dead & buried
Play Florida{Billy D} or Kentucky{Cal] both like ny & their fans will come to garden

this song sums it up nicely.

Actually have that album. Believe Texas saying they will not be playing A&M at least in football.

You're right about the UT-AM rivalry, I was mistaken.

But I still think we should play Syracuse from time to time.
If a new hey-day for SJU basketball is dawning; beating Syracuse needs to be one of the highlights.
I'm sorry but beating UCLA or UK, or Michigan State in a non-conference game wouldn't carry the same significance to me as a fan as beating Syracuse when both teams are ranked.

The MSG thing is a legitimate problem, I agree. But in a year or two if we're winning, our attendance will improve.

Syracuse University's astute former Athletic Director Jake Crothemel convinced the other Big East Conference schools to isolate Boston College, Miami and VaTeck after those 3 schools left the Big East by refusing to schedule them.

The remaining Big East schools should again adopt Mr. Crothemel's recommendation and St.John's, Yukon, Villanova, G'town, TheHall, Providence, Marquette, and DePaul should all agree not schedule Syracuse University in basketball or any other sport.

Don't give "New York's Team" a forum to play  St.John's.

Let Syracuse play a southern or west coast team in Madison Square Garden but not a remaining Big East team.

Could not agree more, in the NCAA Tournament and nothing else.
Giving them a game at the garden only hurts us.

Money aside its embarrassing to walk into a 'home' game and be outnumbered 80 to 20

yes it is but if we start winning we'll attract more fans and I dont know about you but I'd be pumped to play Cuse at the Garden. Providence just doesnt do it for me.

And the Providence games will have a lot more juice than future games against SMU, Houston, or UCF.

I would like to see us play Syracuse on a regular basis. Now that they are in a different conference they should be in the Holiday Festival on a regular basis. The Garden will love to see new life injected into those games, and it's good for fans of both programs.

Syracuse would want in, and it would be good for local basketball. The Holiday Festival could finally go back to being a tournament format, because the fans would show up.
Real simple format:
St Johns, Syracuse, 1 A-10 team, 1 MAAC team. Rotate who the opponents are.
Round 1 SJU v Iona and SU v Fordham
Round 2 most years ends up SJU v SU

It upset me when BC left and Syracuse failed to join them, but not anymore. I'd still like to play them, since beating them is more satisfying than beating most non conference opponents. Honestly, I think we are losing them at just the right time. If Boeheim is serious about retiring soon, duplicating his success (particularly recruiting) will be extremely difficult for his successor, and the program (like football) should decline to a certain degree. I like the idea of having them always join in the Holiday festival...in OUR city

Some here will never get it! There is no reason, ZERO, nada to give Cuse NYC exposure. NONE...get it?? if suntan man at SJ is open to it, so is the door from his office to some Sun Belt school needing a tanned AD.

This isn't about what a game does or doesn't do for Syracuse. The only consideration should be whether or not it helps St. Johns.

And there is no other opponent we can beat, which would be as big a recruiting tool as beating Syracuse at MSG.
Jermaine Lawrence, Whitehead.. all these recruits we're after are considering SU as well. That's not going to change just because they move to the ACC.

But we have to be good enough to be competitive in those games. I'm confident we will be. And the fans will come. Nobody expects it to be all Mets fans when they host the Yankees. Recruits understand there are going to be Syracuse fans at a game at the Garden.
But beating 'Cuse in front of a packed house is the closest thing we can have to Duke hosting a recruit the weekend they play Carolina, or Michigan hosting recruits when they play Ohio State.

You guys are ignoring what a game against Syracuse does for our program.

You are in the "I just do not get it" club! MSG is the redmen's home court. If your idea of having a home court advantage is 15,000 tickets sold on the open market to Syracuse fans, then you failed Marketing 101. Cuse had a NYC metro market wil the Hall, Rutgers and SJ. They traded that market for the closest rival they should now have to NYC......BOSTON! Hopefully, down the road, they do as well as Miami and BC are now doing in both football and basketball!

It would be nice if the BE would freeze them out and "NYs team" can play their away games in Georgia and South Carolina.

I don't think it's a home court advantage when we play in front of Cuse crowds. But I'm also realistic. There has been near zero demand for SJU tickets in the last decade. We've been awful. We were 32-70 in conference games during Norm. No one's going to come to watch that. So while it angers me, it doesn't surprise me that Syracuse fans have been overwhelming.

But I think our attendance will improve. We've had a similar situation with UCONN, and especially in the late 90's, their fans flooded the Garden. The Artest/Postell teams negated that advantage pretty well, and we had good crowds for home games and Big East tournament games. But that's because we were competitive.

I think our attendance will improve. If it doesn't, then I would agree with you, we shouldn't schedule Syracuse.
But if we are good, then playing Syracuse is a huge recruiting tool for us that we shouldn't throw away.

My last response to this and your POV----Once SJ is again relevant and nationally ranked we will not need Syracuse at MSG. SJ can schedule nationally ranked (non-former Big East schools ad nauseum) but NEVER EVER Syracuse. Their NYC metro exposure must be limited ----- that is what will work to SJ's advantage.
Out of desperation, the Orange will deprive their Dome fans and play games at MSG or even Brooklyn as an ACC home game against a Duke, UNC or even Pitt. That should be the price their "home" fans in the city of Syracuse should pay for their betrayal. SJ scheduling them at MSG or even Brooklyn would be moronic unles SJ was given 75% of the tickets and that will not happen.

Cuse is not in the dead middle...perhaps you are the one that needs a map. The middle is like Albany in terms of North/South. Cuse is literally near the maritime border of Canada...go look. It's like only 40 miles or something from the maritime border of Canada. That's nothing. I live 40 miles from the NYC border (Queens) and I am considered a suburb of NYC, so Cuse is like a suburb of Canada just in a diff. country. I believe the closest border is Ontario by the way. Either way my point remains...Canada is very close to Cuse and is far from being a true New York area.

Joe, I am not picking a fight with you, I live in Syracuse It is crossed by I-90 (Thruway) it goes east/west It also has Rt. 81 north'/South going east to border is about 150 miles. West to border is 190 miles. Going north on 81 90 miles to Canadian Border south to pa border 80 miles.

Albany is equidistant to Canada to NYC only a few miles to the border on the East but 250 miles to border to the West.

Syracuse is located in Central New York Albany is on the tip of the Mohawk Valley,
Hope there are no hard feelings. I am an Alum of STJ and live in an ocean of orange pukey orange.

Parting shot from Boeheim (per Zags):

“The Big East is not what it used to be,” Boeheim told the Syracuse Post-Standard after the U.S. club’s 80-69 exhibition victory over Brazil on Monday night in Washington.

“I think the ACC is a tremendous league and it’s a tremendous opportunity for us. To stay in one time zone and play in a great conference — a great all-around conference, but, specifically, a great basketball conference — is a great thing.”
Boeheim on Big East

This should sit in every remaining BE school's locker room for this upcoming season.

I agree Scuse can go to hell with Bernie Fine!
Dont schedule them at the garden at all!
