Curbelo

Not worth the headache on this point. Kid hates practice. It’s an everyday ordeal. First couple of good practices in a while were before Providence, and that was the most cohesive team we have seen all season.

Time to put out to pasture like Ole Yeller.

I’ve heard another BE coach describe him as a “program killer”.

His attitude and work ethic doesn’t match our program at this point. It’s very apparent at this point.

He’s not to blame for where the season is, but man it has been a disappointment as far as him meshing.

We’ll see.
But he is part of the blame. The guys would have had a better chance off getting better as the season went on. Mlke also thought he could make the team better with belo and it didn't work. If mathis did not get hurt mike would have stayed with him. Stoor would have still gotten better and maybe faster without bello. Coaches at times are rewarded by not giving up on a kid, but not this time.

Thank you for your honest posts, they are much appreciated.
However, he is certainly partly to blame for where we are. He is a starter getting serious minutes and other players were moved out of position to accomodate him, while other were denied PT and potential future growth in order to accomodate Andre.
This is something he should have realized and appreciated.
However, as has been said his problem is between the ears and hopefully for his sake he grows up.

Curbelo like Rodman needs extra care and help. I would have thought CMA being an old school type of guy would not take his BS and be able to reign him in b/c I think with the right coach the kid would meet up to his potentials. Probably only recent SJU coach that could have handled him was Lavin.

There is a big difference between Curbelo and Rodman. Rodman actually produced on the court.

when will Anderson ever release him from the team? He truly is a locker room cancer. Without him our guards play better. With him his circus acts will make him great for a team in Harlem called the globetrotters. He never passes takes horrible shots and makes horrible decisions. Oh yeah and he snuck into coach's postgame conference and took pictures. Imagine going into your bosses office and snapping a picture of him when he is having a bad day?

There are a lot of things going on.

I wish the kid the best in the future.
He needs to keep his head down and hit the books. a SJ education is not a bad thing. Saves 60K in Tuition as well.

Kids need to realize there is more than basketball to make it in the world.

i don’t want to put it all on the parents/coaches/handlers/enablers but a lot of these kids are held to a different standard than the other kids if they show the ability to get to that highest level of their sport. Some of them, when they’re still children. Now, obviously, the kid is the one who ultimately has to have the self control/personality/wherewithal to not succumb to this sense of entitlement and that’s why for some of these kids, college is a cold bucket of water in their face. It’s the first time kids like this have been forced to do certain activities in practice, behave themselves, reign in their superiority, really get their grades or get treated like the rest of the team.

Basketball (or whatever the sport is) really is all they know for the majority of their life. When this has been driven into their heads for years and they’ve been treated differently for it, how would they know any other life?

Now. I obviously don’t know if that’s the case here but…it’s a story as old as time and wouldn’t surprise me if that’s an element at play here.

Posh and Pinzon played pretty poorly in curbelo’s absence vs DePaul. I know I’m in the minority at this point but really believe the Posh struggles being because of Curbelo is a load of crap. He’s played poor for the majority of the year, with or without Curbelo, plain and simple. Doesn’t mean I don’t think Curbelo has had a hand in our poor play. He has.
