Do we want a 39% shooter who literally doesn’t draw any fouls in more than half the games taking difficult shots down 1? There are certain shots he hits almost automatically like open layups and that pull-up elbow jumper that go into that 39% mind you.

With the adrenaline and the added defense of a last possession scenario he’s not going to get that beautiful elbow pull-up. He’s going to have to heavily fade away from the basket at full speed.

Those two shots he missed the mast two possessions are the exact two he will take every.single.time.

Or how about a matchup nightmare like Luis who takes 5 FTs a game and draws contact at an elite level taking a close shot off a ball fake with a defender in the air?

Second question: if Jenkins takes only say 8-12 shots instead of 17, are Dingle and Alleyne looser when their #s are called late? We go away from Dingle for 10 minutes straight every fans it seems.
Unfortunately, Jenkins is the only guy on the roster I trust to create their own shot with the ball in his hands. Maybe Luis will get there.

The Raheem Dunn comparisons are pretty accurate at times, but unfortunately, Dingle & Alleyne looked *terrified* at the end of this game. We both would’ve rather had them shoot it, but they didn’t want it. I don’t think giving them more shots changes that, I think it’s a personality thing frankly.

On Jenkins, it is clear he is willing to take big shots and has made his share, but is not a great shooter. To me, we’ll need other guys to embrace pressure and take those crunch time or stop the bleeding shots. You really can’t just solely rely on him. Alleyane got ripped by somebody, but honestly one crunch time jumper went half way down. Dingle was spark off bench in first half, but has not shown crunch time, big shot capability.

The foul differential really bit us in ass as Mug C noted. In addition to putting good FT shooting team on line, it also gave them option at end of giving a fouls reducing a 12 second opportunity for good shot to a rushed 4.5 or so one.

No doubt. The “sky is falling act” after each loss is getting ridiculous. Not everything is going to go our way & each mistake is not the end of the world. Dial it back gents.

For me, it is not “the sky is falling”, it is about getting better and not beating yourself. A loss to Creighton on the road is no big deal but the WAY we play and in this case, lose, is very much so to me.

Tough loss. Would have been huge. Agree there was some home cooking happening but that’s to be expected and also St John’s DID commit a bunch of unnecessary fouls mixed in there. Gut punch because it’s a game they probably should have won and still had a chance to win at the horn. I like the way Pitino is talking from the quotes and hopefully they’re now just hungrier for the next W. On to the next.

Again he was fouled.
In my time as a fan I can remember ST John’s shooting free throws on last second shot ONCE. Hatten against Duke
And I cannot remember it happening to us.
Should have won that game anyway.
And I cannot remember it happening to us.

My memory must be better than yours. Perhaps because it happened on March 10, 2022 my 65th Birthday no less.

It was in a Big East Tournament game against Villanova that the refs totally grabbed from us. They called some bogus second half fouls on Posh Alexander that sent him to the bench and turned the game around.

At the end a foul was called late on Julian Champagnie and Brandon Slater made the go-ahead free throws with 2.8 seconds left. No. 8 Villanova barely squeezed into the Big East Tournament semifinals instead of us, overcoming a 17-point deficit in the second half to beat St. John's 66-65.

I think we played better today than the providence game and any of our games pre-BE not counting Utah

Again didn't see the game so can only look at the box score, but the fact that Ashworth who has struggled a bit played 31 minutes without us turning him over once surprises me. Would have thought we'd look to turn Creighton over a lot.

That was egregious. It's like they anticipated the game was over and weren't watching dingle shoot. It's such a blatant foul I can't believe they didn't call it. Not letting someone land besides making contact through the whole shot.
That’s what bothers me, look if we lose that’s fine but don’t take the ability to control our destiny away from us.

Yes, but he took two wild shots on our last two possessions. Those are the exact same shots we will get in those situations all year because he can get to those shots at will like Raheem Dunn. Is that okay for you? I could see the argument for it, but I want Luis there.
Im just not sure Luis has the separation ability yet off the dribble in a last shot situation. From the high post yes, but not creating from the top yet IMO.

In this particular game situation, I think Creighton would trap & foul or cause a turnover very quickly

For ST John’s to get where we want them to go two things MUST happen and they are related.
Dingle has to step up and be the second option and somewhere close to the player he can be.
If he does that than hopefully Jenkins will chill and stop shooting so much. It is simply not possible to win close games if you are relying on a sub 40% shooter to be the point guard and a volume shooter.

I’m sorry for posting too much. My dog isn’t the best outlet after games.

Dingle had 10 attempts today. That should be enough to have him loose at the end of one. I just didn’t think he wanted it.

dk don’t apologize. But definitely don’t beat on your dog after losses, if that’s what you are alluding to 😂😂😂

Same final score as today. Ain’t that a bitch
