Creighton, Sat., Feb. 18, 7:30p, FS-1

I know that all posters are die hard fans but for the last month the fan support in general has been great and has me thinking that old cliche I have heard for years and years may be correct “ when we start to win the fans will come” .
This year is certainly nothing to write home about on the court but if the administration can make the necessary changes maybe SJU is a sleeping giant and might lure in a capable coach during the off season.

GC....I believe the SJUBB fan base can still be considered a sleeping giant. However, as previously stated, the clock is ticking. We are on the cusp of losing a significant portion of that base due to age. Take a look at the lower seat back section at Carnesecca (season ticket holders). I am guessing it is somewhere near 50-60% senior citizens. We need an exciting tournament run that will engage younger fans and later produce feelings of nostalgia. Most of our fan base is kicking around for just a taste of the "good old days".

You are correct. But it better happen very soon, or the fan base of sleeping giants will be just sleeping.

Last week I posted that Curbello was an enigma, hard to understand. After last nights game SJU is an enigma to me. I watched the Prov vs Vill game prior to the SJU game yesterday and came away feeling somewhat confident SJU would compete vs Creighton because Prov looked so good and if SJU could compete against them in two games they could play with Creighton at home.
Not so fast. The Prov vs Vill game looked like a game played between two talented well drilled teams that SJU wouldn’t belong on the court against. How they played Prov to two even games is beyond me. If they played last night like they played vs Prov they win the game.
But they play a game like it is week one of practice back in Sept. They make mistake after mistake that don’t show up in the box score and just seem to play without direction.
They are hard to figure out and a frustrating group to watch.

McDermott also sounded like he was damn near inebriated (ie, talking slowly and delayed speech).
I had a friend that was a good poker player. He was playing poker in Vegas when one of the well known faces of poker sat down at his table. The guy was drunk out of his mind. He later asked the guy why he played drunk. He said, actually nicely, that he was so much better than non-pros that it was no fun to play them unless he was so inebriated he couldn't see straight. Maybe Mcdermott felt that way coaching against CMA.

As awful as this team is, a couple less stupid turnovers(lob passes to no one), a couple less missed bunnies(Jones and Wusu, looking at you), a couple more made FREE throws, and they are right in the thick of things.
Seeing the opposing coach bitch out one of his players last night made me wonder the last time we saw that? He runs the show, not the inmates.
Special thanks to Posh, Dylan and Curbelo for teaching Storr the finer art of driving to the basket and just flinging up a shot when there's nothing there.

This should not be glossed over. Like many here, I am at every game and I am currently puzzled (happily) by the stronger than expected attendance. In past years, considering our record and uninspired play, this game would not have drawn the crowd that it did.

A tired notion, but if we ever got this program going, it could be a lot of fun.
Same here. I was really surprised by last nights attendance

That's the product of an offense consisting of players standing around watching the guy with the ball.

Seriously, someone said it a few weeks back but it’s so true, I’ve been on these boards for 20 years and without a doubt the best times (mood, energy, excitement, positivity) has been when we are in the midst of a coaching search/new hire.

I think the recent engagement is just the sense of excitement creeping in that soon we will again be in the market for a new coach. And for a few months, or at least as long as it takes for them to prove they won’t be the chosen one to turn this dormant program around, all will be right in st. John’s fandom.
Um, that’d be me 😉

I would absolutely love to see Posh play for a real coach. Other than shooting, all the other tools are there.
I think playing for CMA for 3 seasons has worn down Posh to a shell of the player he was . He’s frustrated and it’s eating him up . Anyone think he wants to play another year for this Coach ?

St. John's has made a habit this season of not capitalizing on opportunities. Multiple games have been there for the taking and they simply haven't outstretched their arms to grab it, which again was the case in a 10 point loss to Creighton. That game was beyond winnable but this is undisciplined team that has proven who they are over and over.

Saturday night games are probably the best to bring in a crowd, especially a family crowd.

Unfortunately, MSG already has plans for Saturday nights, so we don't get to do it too often. Hardley ever, there. Just another reason why that building does us little good.

We drew well there last saturday at noon.

If you want to project big time you live in a nice house not a trailer

That’s great. Shanley signed off on Anderson’s ill-conceived and completely unnecessary contract extension. Forgive me if I’m not overflowing with confidence about Shanley’s ”strategy” moving forward.
Who gave him the extension ?
