Creighton, Sat., Feb. 18, 7:30p, FS-1

Honestly, for the life of me, I cannot understand why we continue to yield a parade of wide-open threes with seemingly no attempt to adjust. There are many reasons why we need a change in leadership, but this particular one (perimeter defense) is making the games utterly painful to watch.

Fully confident Shanley moves him out immediately after season ends. “Pitiful” does not work for FS
That’s great. Shanley signed off on Anderson’s ill-conceived and completely unnecessary contract extension. Forgive me if I’m not overflowing with confidence about Shanley’s ”strategy” moving forward.

Absence of discipline on defense and poor shot selection seems to kill them especially in tight game situations. Whether it is on the players, coaching or both, they most often don’t play with much concentration and smarts.

This is overblown. They panned in on McDermott when we made a run and he wasn’t saying anything of substance either.
Difference is McDermott had a game plan prior to the timeout. Stuck to it and didn’t panic.

Our plan is the same as always, to disrupt on defense to the extent of giving up wide open threes and uncontested layups.

5 second look-ins can always be overblown. However the all-access game vs Xavier spoke volumes.

Some may be concerned about losing the 3 recruits and maybe Storr if CMA leaves. Looks like half the team may leave if he stays. It is great to see the bench cheering for their teammates all game, but there has to be a lot of discontent judging by the Curbelo-Pinzon incidents and the benching and dog-housing of starters. Not saying it wasn't deserved, but it is not the hallmark of well run programs.

There’s no discipline on offense
Or defense. No gameplan. No sets. No rhyme or reason. Just playground junk.

And it’s obvious that 5 minutes
Of intense focused defensive play and fast break offense does not overcome 25 or 30 minutes of ineptitude.

The poor decision making, lack of
Poise, hero ball devolution, me first offense, rushed shots are all symptoms of poor coaching and players tuned out.

The fact that during these droughts he often has his best offense players on the bench shows cluelessness.

The fact that the team always elects to take
Quick I’ll advised shots instead of more
Often looking for Storr or Soriano is mind boggling.

It’s basically just a sh$& show and it can’t end soon enough.

when was the last time we see coach use the clipboard to design plays? i believe anderson is done and they will hire a mid major a la seton hall, rutgers, even providence, for less money and when that guy wins and wins they gets the pay raise. Hell lets tab our women's basketball coach to play out the rest of the season. Anderson has to be embarrassed but he is probably too full of himself to even think about that. This was an easily winnable game. just DISGUSTING. Pinzon was correct and for cuerbelo well anderson recruited him.

The one silver lining was the crowd…it’s been a long time since the upper corners have been sold. . .it was reminiscent of the old days when Alumni Hall was routinely packed to the rafters. . .crown got real loud when we made our little run. . .

This should not be glossed over. Like many here, I am at every game and I am currently puzzled (happily) by the stronger than expected attendance. In past years, considering our record and uninspired play, this game would not have drawn the crowd that it did.

A tired notion, but if we ever got this program going, it could be a lot of fun.

Overall, I agree with you. One note about the clipboard during timeouts. In my limited experience (never played past high school), coaches rarely, if ever, introduced new plays on the clipboard during the game. Was always used to reiterate what we had practiced. Sometimes coach would emphasize needs within the play to account for a stud player on the other side, but it's not like we were seeing some masterpiece for the first time. Just my personal experience.

I know that all posters are die hard fans but for the last month the fan support in general has been great and has me thinking that old cliche I have heard for years and years may be correct “ when we start to win the fans will come” .
This year is certainly nothing to write home about on the court but if the administration can make the necessary changes maybe SJU is a sleeping giant and might lure in a capable coach during the off season.

Seriously, someone said it a few weeks back but it’s so true, I’ve been on these boards for 20 years and without a doubt the best times (mood, energy, excitement, positivity) has been when we are in the midst of a coaching search/new hire.

I think the recent engagement is just the sense of excitement creeping in that soon we will again be in the market for a new coach. And for a few months, or at least as long as it takes for them to prove they won’t be the chosen one to turn this dormant program around, all will be right in st. John’s fandom.
