Creighton (MSG), Sun., Feb. 25, 12 Noon, CBS

If we finish the season 2-1 (Butler being the L) BUT we win two games in the BET can we still get in?

[Edit: If we win 2 out of remaining 3 do we avoid Wednesday? Dunno that answer]

Believe me, I want a W at Butler --- but is my question legit, or do we HAVE to win the BET to get the auto-bid?
My personal opinion is that the home loss to Seton Hall hurt big time. The Butler game becomes a must win because of that. And winning out really helps our chances in the BET; I think we need do make some noise in the BET to get a bid. If we make it to the finals and lose there then I think we likely slip in, but anything short of that and I think we are on the outside looking in again.

Providence and Nove have tough end of season schedules, so it is possible to jump above those two depending on how things play out. It would be great to slip into the five seed and not have to play that first night. I think this team has the potential to beat any team in the Big East especially on a neutral court or at MSG (which can be neutral depending on the opponent). It all depends on which team shows up that day. Either way these next three weeks will either be incredibly exciting or horrible excruciating.

I liked it. Very late in the game with a fairly safe lead and he's trying to blow the roof off the Garden with an icing on the cake - cherry on top - exclamation point - Rafferty "send it in Jerome" alley oop moment. He's at the WMF arena just up the block from Broadway. Our star has a ton of moxie and pizazz in his game. It was about to be full on Showtime...only it wasn't.
I agree CA. And , if that play connects , the eruption in MSG might have knocked out the Cable broadcast for a minute .
Sure , the psss was just slightly off and Ledlum tried to get it with his left hand but , it would have put a spike into Dracula’s heart if it connected .

Jenkins passing yesterday was almost other
worldly . He thread the needle several times, the Dingle back door dunk for example .

Lappas is a tad over the top but , knows BB . He mentioned that McDermott was worried about defending the Mid Range shot , as their defense is geared to force you to take 3’s which is not our game , this year .
He also gave praise to Dingle but , said 3 point shooting is not his game .
Also said, Jenkins is playing like a All BE first team player but , won’t get it .

We defend Schierman pretty well and he was t his usual 3 point Assassin . And , We harassed Ashworth all game .
Alexander was on fire and as it worked out , he had a Career game but , he couldn’t do it alone .
Kalkenbrenner and Soriano kind of neutralized each other .

Taylor was a menace all day on defense and grabbed some key rebounds too .

I liked in the 1st half that Ledlum got into Zuby’s face after he had made those 2 Turnovers back to back. That’s leadership ! His block on Kalkenbrenner was a crowd pleaser . Emphatic .

Zuby, for all his energy , etc ., really has no offensive game at this point . It will be a challenge for RP to see if he ever gets one .
Playing him and Trarore together is a head scratcher .

And , since a few posters got into the Jenkins - Hatten conversation . Which makes no sense but , nevertheless was posted .
How about this :

DLO Vs Ponds
DLO Vs Hatten
Hatten Vs Ponds

My answer is Ponds over DLO
Hatten over DLO
Hatten Vs Ponds - draw , tie

Hatten over all of them for me, FWIW
Not unrealistic It’s hard to believe that it’s like 20 years ago that Hatten played .
Ponds is a little fresher in my mind but , Hatten had that great year .
Ponds was the Man though for his 3 years and that’s why I equate them .

These comparisons are near useless but , we as fans , enjoy them .

I like what Magic said about comparing Bird with Jordan . “ In the Air, it’s MJ , on the ground it’s Larry .”

Pitino postgame presser included in link.
Taylor, Dingle, Jenkins on the podium.
Pitino in post game interview with Lappas . RP quite a bit taller than Steve .
Lappas telling story of his playing College Ball at Brooklyn College back in the day.

Also mentioned Steve Schrippa playing Ball for Brooklyn too .

Bobby Baccala at game yesterday . Didn’t appear all that interested in the game as he chatted with friend .,

The star of the game was Jenkins for allowing Dingle to control the flow for 25 minutes. His shots and opportunities will always be there if he’s patient and lets the ball find him.

Dingle is a very good teammate.
Dingle has his best game as a Johnnie .
But , “ allow Dingle to control the flow for 25 minutes “ is a stretch of what really happened .

Commander Jenkins was handling the controls yesterday as usual . And , the Plane and Redmen Airlines had a great landing

Harrison was a better outside shooter than either of those guys though, which might have made him a better fit on this team.

Again he is playing very well but what you posted is a stretch, mostly see him arguing with teammates.
He said in the presser after the game about how he gets on his teammates. They seem to respond, so I don't know if I'd discuss that as 'arguing." Besides, everyone knows how important he is to CRP, so it is natural for him to get on the rest of the guys when needed.

Yesterday was one of those awesome moments as a fan that you get to say you were in the building for an epic win. The first real marquee home win of the season, of the Rick Pitino era over a ranked team. It was a great atmosphere and to see the guys play as a unit, as "one tight fist" as DJ said, the ball movement, the clutch shots. That's the team we hoped to see all year. But hey, better late than never.

Jordan Dingle was simply fantastic, he made so many timely shots, didn't force threes, and really made so many big ones in the 2nd half to answer Creighton. As I mentioned on the podcast, I was so happy and proud to see the fight really show up in their ability to never let Creighton string together 2-3-4 baskets that so many other teams have done to us before and bury us. Jordan was a huge part of that.

With each passing game I'm sad that Daniss Jenkins won't be here longer. Just a special talent who would have gone down in SJU history had he been here a while longer. A joy to watch.

Now lets put all this positive energy on a plane and beat Butler!!

Of course, the optimum phrase being “fairly safe”; I couldn’t care less about “cherry on top”. There is a big difference between moxie and dumb play and that was dumb play, plain and simple. You wanting to praise Jenkins for everything he does is no different than the posters obsessed with doing the opposite, just spamming nonsense.
And I am way over being impressed or wowed watching dunks and alley oops. On second thought, that’s not true, they never impressed me; I enjoyed the beauty and skill of one of Kareem’s sky hooks over all his dunks combined.
So impressed with the coverage that will maybe show a great pass or defensive play over once but will replay a 7 footer dunking from 67 different angles.
You're no fun. I bet you don't like roller derby, wet t shirt contests or drag queen beauty pageants and don't let the neighborhood kids play on your lawn either.

Dingle had a great game . His best as a Johnnie . Lappas mentioned 3 point shooting isn’t a strong suit for Jordan but , the 8, 10, 12 footer is his best .

He and Jenkins destroyed the Blue Jays with the elbow jumper all game .

Lappas also heaped accolades on Daniss . Saying “ he”s playing like he should be on the All BE first team .” But , said he won’t be but , should be on the 2nd or 3 rd team .

It’s a shame we never got to see a Clayton - Jenkins back court this year .
They would have torched many of our opponents . Several more wins easily

I would have liked to hear the Pitino -Clayton conversation when Jr told him he was going to Florida .

Neighborhood kids can run wherever they want on my property. Not remotely interested in roller derby or drag queens but wet t-shirts are always welcome; but the size of the welcome mat is predicated on the wearer.

That’s debatable but, Harrison had a great shot when he was on . Hatten and Ponds could control games and do more than DLO in the other categories .

DLO put it up a lot, even when it wasn’t his night . As a all around player , Ponds and Hatten were better . In my opinion .

I’m with a lot of others here that just don’t give Shamorie the due he earned .

Posh gets more love but , it’s not fair to compare Posh and Ponds . Shamorie , all day , all night and twice on Sunday .

did this team actually pay attention to the scouting report?! 🤣

that short jumper was there ALL game and we exploited it to perfection.

go johnnies!

Girlfriend in Florida had his baby in October. Not a lot to talk about.

Zach B also said re Big E T “They need another significant win. Hall or PC isn’t that.”

I don't think we should be getting too cute about BET seeds. We need to win out in the regular season, and beat at least one non-DePaul or Georgetown team in the tournament to have a chance. Most likely, we can sit comfortably on Sunday if we're beating two non-basement teams.
