Creighton (MSG), Sun., Feb. 16, 3p, FS-1

I've been critical of Sim all season but think he played pretty well for a 1 point, 4 foul performance. For a guy that's used to getting at least 8-10 shots up every game he didn't try to assert himself and force anything offensively that wasn't there. Thought his on ball defense was solid for most of the game too

If you

If you don’t think he had a good game, not sure what to say.
I was scared every time he shot from 3 pt. range plus he knows to get open. don't think Pitino would turn him down, nor any other D1 Coach

Ashworth was clowned 6 weeks ago here about how devon smith and company were going to be too athletic for him. We would expose him you said.

Now, he misses multiple wide open looks down the stretch and hes "phenominal".

Hahahahahahaha
He is one of the quickest players in the whole conference. Who was clowning him? He looks like Haley Joel Osment...that's funny and not an indictment on his play. He's a clear all-conference player. He was killing us yesterday on his own...who cares if he missed some shots. We guarded him almost 90 feet all game to wear him down.

Deep breath. The “you said” was nothing I said.

Do you ever stop to reread what you are posting before hitting “reply?”

🙋‍♂️ I'll stand by my take. I think Ashworth is asked to do too much by Creighton and isn't a great lead guard. He put in a valiant effort yesterday and definitely expected him to hit one of those shots. But he didn't, and he missed free throws. Why? I think we tired him out. Our pressure got to him physically and mentally. He was extremely underwhelming for them last year. I still don't understand why people on this board talk about him like he's some efficient shooter -- he shot less than 40% last year.

I truly do not see him as a guy having primary ball handler dribbling-ability. He's prone to a lot of turnovers ("only" had four yesterday) and does a lot of his damage curling off screens or making deep 3s when his man is not paying attention. It's honestly a shame that Isaacs got injured. If he hadn't, I really think they would be a top 15-20 team and Ashworth would be a lot better in that combo role.

And yeah, I'd say he's the exact prototype of what we're missing offensively. I'm not hating on the guy. But the idol worship by some here is bizarre.

You could see our D wearing him down yesterday. I was positive he was going to get tired which is why I couldn’t understand Mullins Revenge yesterday going nuts on Smith guarding him.

Then I said to myself “ it’s Mullins Revenge we got this “

Sim was clearly asked to sell out on defense vs Ashworth which he did and did effectively. Think some folks (not you) do not appreciate that if you have a player who's asked to and is willing to give 100% effort on the defensive end that it can have a negative impact on offense. Sim took one shot and had zero turnovers so he may not have helped on that end but he didn't hurt us either.

His drive and dish to Scott was also a gigantic play and a beauty.

Our defense on Ashworth, especially at the charity stripe was good. 🥸
We are 10th in the country in opposition FT %. I think wearing them down plays a big factor. Most of Pitino's good teams faired very well in that statistic.

I also think our defense takes away from our own legs as well -- which is why having a healthy Smith giving us 6 high major caliber players is so valuable.

Sim has delivered timely plays at some critical times in games. He defended well on the ball yesterday and did make a key pass at crunch time. Only a Soph with potential and room to grow over the off season, as well as getting a bit stronger. His stats to date;

I believe you called it that he'd miss multiple foul shots, and he did. The miss on the front end of a one and one in the second half was huge. But agree with dk423, they do ask him to do way to much. It almost seems out of necessity though because It doesn't seem like they have a capable backup PG.
