Creighton Game #2

Has anyone heard if their injured pg will be back? There was talk on their board that he might be back for this game.

Looks unlikely. Read something about mid February, but this is all I found from 1/30.

http://www.jaystoday.com/article/20...ng-return-hopes-to-start-practicing-on-friday

The article indicates that he is expected back for Depaul on Friday. If all goes well, I would assume that he will p lay against us. If he's not at full speed, we need to try to take advantage of it.

Article notes his intention, not medical clearance. Other piece I read notes 2/16. Who knows? In any event, I doubt he plays. If he does I can't see him playing many minutes.

Oh well that's why you have only seen him play once. I've been watching him since he was a soph, he is the real deal. He has Larry birds IQ. Look at JJ redick many thought he wouldn't make it cause he was athletic and he has had a nice career.

McDermott brings so much more to the table than Korver or Redick, but yes, they are all white and can shoot.

I think that McDermott is better than JJ Redick. He's better at creating his own shot than JJ was in college.

Put Dom mostly, or Sampson on McDermott. Man to man. No help. Defend hard. Rebound. Run at every opportunity. Push the pace and run them right off the court. Just like the Johnnies have been doing.

I think the keys to this game on defense will boil down to 4 things.

1. We have to full court press. It chews up seconds on the shot clock even if we dont get a turn over. They dont get as much time to run their sets or create mismatches

2. Dont let Dougie Fresh catch the ball where he wants. Make him work for it. Claw scratch and fight with out fouling to make him as uncomfortable as possible.

3. Stay at home. If we play disciplined and understand great players are going to score, but dont let the suporting cast look like super stars. No doubling. Just hard D. Switch on screens and pics. With our collective lenth its hard to get a mismatch on a switch anyway.

4. This is the hardest, but dont put them at the line. We tend to get alot of touch fouls. We also tend to get into the bonus early in the 2nd half of games. Thats a killer.

If we can execute these four things, we have a chance to win comfortably. Its at the Garden. Fans (Like my self) are going to do their best to make it a hostile environment. Let the revenge tour continue.

The Creighton fans have reached a new level of annoying. Calling us the most disliked team in the big east, and have been dissecting the pointer play.

My favorite comment was one of them saying pointer punched McDermott in the face on that foul at mid court last week.

God forbid someone knocks their little superstar on his ass. I hate their fans already, I hope we smack them at the garden.

I said in another post, they are quickly replacing Cuse as my most hated BE fanbase. McDermott's success has gone to their heads. I really hope we put a beatdown on them on Sunday.

I like the fact that they are calling us the most disliked team in the Big East. They fear us. Can't wait for Sunday.

I don't care what their fans fear or hate. What counts is how we play Sunday. I'm certain McD and his father respect us, but don't fear us. The large hole we have dug for ourselves and beating a quality team should serve as ample motivation.

Well that's what I meant Doug is much better than JJ. Much higher IQ, he is trying to become the first player since Patrick Ewing to become a 3 time 1st all American. When his career is done he will be in the top 10 in scoring in NCAA history. Has a post game, can go to the basket with either hand, can finish with either hand, sets solid screens, plays with in his game never tries to do things that he can't, unlimited range, highest IQ in college basketball.

For a program that should be thankful they were admitted to the Big East, and one that will move to the bottom of the conference once McDermott is gone, they are talking a lot of corn.

They had Kyle Korver and, before him, Willis Reed. They will always be a power program!

Willis Reed played at Grambling State but had a 52-65 glorious coaching record at Creighton. He got the job because he sat on our bench as an assistant to cut his coaching teeth under Looie.

Paul Silas played for Creighton and played SJU at Fordham when Alumni Hall was under construction.

Weve gottwe to a point where thinking about the tourney isnt absurd. Now we have to get a win against a team that will be dancing. This is one of our last chances and its on our home floor. No excuses, we need this game.

I read that as STJ's is the most "old Big East" team of the "new Big East" and that goes against our middle American sensibilities. I think that's great.

All home team fans favor their team re referee's calls but in the first Creighton game their fans conduct seemed over the top. At every contact they were screaming for a SJU foul and I thought their yelling influenced the refereeing in their favor.

I've noticed in general that what I refer to as the "corn field" teams, are very adverse to contact. Their fans aren't used to it at all and think the game should be played at an arm's length distance. This especially applies to Creighton and Butler.
Xavier is the complete opposite however.

this season has been particularly bad as the calls have been inconsistent. with the huge deal made about the new rules the inconsistency is a much bigger problem.
