Would assume not lol
I think Borman would be a real plus, but let’s see if they hire him.Rumor mill rampant with names like Hsu also, so hard to predict anything yet.
Paultzman, Matt is already gone, rumor is that St. Jean will be gone, so hire both Hsu, and Borman.
Move Mitch to special advisor or something and hire another good assistant.

Once staff and players for next year shake out, there'll be plenty of time for speculation that is at least somewhat fact based.

You seem to be 'blowing into the wind', NCJ.
Dont you get, you cannot stop diehard Johnny fans from speculating on rumors about returning players and 'hoping for the best'?!?
Lol.

Maybe you're right Chicago, but I will continue to "blow into the wind" occasionally to attempt to balance out the endless speculation, which particularly when it comes to players who may transfer, does no good that I can see. One minute we are afraid we won't be able to field a team next year, the next we're suggesting who may decide to transfer...we know the kids read these sites. As far as I'm concerned they're all part of our team and I'd like them to stay unless they determine otherwise. I know folks may disagree, but that's my perspective and it will continue to be.

Who knows if Greg rumor proves out. I’ll defer to Cragg on your request. :)

Hey, you make good points man.
I’m just saying speculating on rumor ‘crumbs’ is as natural as breathing for us diehard Johnny fans.
And I prefer ‘positive’ speculation to ‘gloom ‘n doom’ mantras.
But you’re right, we shall see.

St. Jean isn’t going anywhere.

Hopefully Cragg defined his expectations for all the coaches going forward.

He can define all he wants. They are not suddenly going to learn how to coach.

Omg...some are predicting 20 wins next year with Mullin back and losing one of our best players ever? We haven't even had within 1 game of a .500 season in conference play with guys like LoVett, Ponds, Heron, etc. What makes you think we will do any better? The Big East sucked this past year and still we went 8-10. We got blown out a ton. That was with us as one of the most talented teams! Next year literally every other team except maybe DePaul or SHU will be significantly better. If we finished anywhere better than 8th I'd be absolutely shocked. As long as we have 2 no-show jobs stealing our money, this will continue. But some of you throw up your hands because his last name is Mullin and Mitch was pretty good 30 years ago or something.

I won’t go off the rails but after what passes for calm and hope on this Board, I am feeling angst.
Consensus spin from ‘frenemies’ Marillac & ‘96 that GSJ ain’t goin’ nowhere, Mitch in all his glory is returning, and we’re replacing just Matt has me a bit puzzled and frustrated.
How can this be that Mullin won’t relent to reality nor that Cragg can persuade him to see it?
Well, we can hope.

Good observations, we are SJU.
It was Shamorie’s team and that was both a good thing and a bad thing.
You could see the dysfunction on the court. The player’s didn’t mesh well and the offense did not ‘flow’ on many nights.
The passing was perfunctory and the movement minimal.
Ponds often played ‘hero ball’, maybe because he thought he had to.
I dunno but for a combo of reasons, we were often held to 1 shot—either a long 3 with time on the clock or a frenzied drive that missed with rarely an offensive rebound.
I think we lacked a pure PG who created and made plays for the team first and himself.
I’m not selling Shamorie short.
As a scoring guard, he ranks near the top.
Funny thing, when LoVett played, we had that PG.
I’m hoping Mack fills that role well next year.

Something I've noticed over the years being a SJU fan... whenever we hire someone new, or bring in a new recruit they're always so overhyped. Everyone on the boards, and twitter is praising it as a great coup/hire. Happened with Mullin, happened with Lavin, happened with countless recruits over the years (Keita and Dixon this year for example). Then it becomes apparent how much their talents/abilities were overblown.

While I'm hoping it's not the case, it could be the same thing with Cragg. Sure he's got a great background, and on paper it seems like he'll do great as an AD, but he's never actually been an AD before. Everyone thought the same thing about Mullin coaching wise, but guess what? He also never had been a coach before and very soon after it became apparent that he's not good at it.

I laugh when I see people say "Oh Cragg will never allow this this and this," but how do we know this exactly? He's never ran a program before. Maybe he will allow Mullin to do whatever he wants. I feel like people, on this board specifically, think Cragg is going to be a savior, but I think I'm gonna wait until at least after this year to decide if he is or not. He's still got a lot to prove. I hope he's as good as some of you seem to think he is.

Great post, PharmD.
Well said.

Hope that's not true, if it is then the only reason we'll get a new assistant.is because matt left on his own? Cragg knows Mitch has to go, maybe the higher ups are over riding him? If that's the case then why would Cragg even take this job?
But like I said after the play-in game, I won't expect news until the week after the nc game (so 2 weeks at the earliest, it's how we do, the sju way).

Disappointed that Borman is very improbable this season, but let’s see what other quality guys are really in the mix.

Per JP Pelzman re Borman & SJU this morning

“Now hearing it could be too big of a jump. Ed Pinckney and W. Kentucky assistant Marc Hsu still in serious play. As Eric Mangini used to say, it's a fluid situation”

The recruiter, Hsu, makes much more sense than EP imo for obvious reason. I am sure Chris M knows that. The question is what other guys are below radar candidates?

Any thoughts as to whether Pinckney & Hsu are possible replacements for Mitch & Matt respectively or is only Matt's role being replaced?
