Are you serious? Dude Matt is gone? He was literally at Hoiberg's press conference in Lincoln, NE yesterday?
I asked. I do have a life :)

Yea it is what we are. But that doesn’t mean you stop trying to do better.

My dad and I had a funny conversation during the NFL playoffs this year. I talked about how the patriots have been good my entire life and I don’t know an NFL without them dominating.

He said when he was my age the patriots were a joke. Snuck into one super bowl in 30 years where they got historically blown out by the Chicago Bears. The rest of the time they were usually horrible.

Funny how one hire and one QB can change things. Now you have people like me who are 21 years old and don’t even know what it’s like to see a bad patriots team unless Brady breaks his leg like he did one year.

If you settle for mediocrity just because that’s how the last 25 years have gone, why are you even a fan? What’s the point? You gotta want to be better than you are. Never settle.

With that being said I do agree that the people who act like mullin is a disaster are overreacting big time. Between the tournament berth and the crowds we drew at MSG, this year was one of the better we have had in a while. But I just have the personal opinion that it will never get better under mullin and we should take a shot with someone else.

That's a reasonable post.

We finished the season playing about as poorly as possible, but it doesn't negate the fact that the very same guys beat (should have swept) Nova, swept Marquette, swept Seton Hall (and wuz rubbed), and finished just 1 win out of third place in conference.

I'm heavily emotionally invested, and after going to the BET and witnessing Marquette drubbing us, and then going to Dayton to watch Clark and Heron leave it all on the court for someone to step in, I've been pretty down on the preparedness of the team at season's close. To deny that they weren't competitive, or more like forget that we were, is just over the top, and feeds into the negativity.

It's really funny in terms of what people justify as acceptable behavior. I had 2 conversations total with Matt in the time he was here. In the first one, he said his wife was startled by all the horrible things that are said about our program on social media and she wasn't used to that. Matt is a tough NY guy and that stuff didn't appear to bother him. But he clearly was bothered that his wife was bothered, and IMO at least, that was probably did not help in terms of him having the opportunity to leave. Won't go out on a limb and say it was causative, but again there's just no damned good reason for it, and especially not, "Have you seen how other fan bases act?"

^^^^This!
Not to mention, continuing to come on the forum and force it on others is probably worst than seeming to accept this is our fate going forward.

But I just have the personal opinion that it will never get better under mullin and we should take a shot with someone else.

Unfortunately, this is basically where I am as well.

Honestly, Beast, we really wasn't that competitive in losses. January 12th was our last loss (at home versus DePaul) by less than 9 points. We lost 10 games since that date, and none of our 10 losses was by less than 9 points. Tallying up to 15.7ppg in those 10 losses. Obviously, the losses to Duke and Marquette (in the Big East Tournament) helped to inflate the number, but still not being able to get closer than 9 points in 10 losses within two months doesn't exactly scream competitive.

Hey Dink. The last 7 or 8 games, we played very poorly in losses. No argument from me there, but for the initial 60-70% of the Big East season we played pretty competitive game. I agree 100% that the overall assessment would be that even with lack of height and lack of depth, we underperformed and that's mostly on the coaches. Players could not consistently make open looks, and just made horrible decisions and that's on them largely.

Roberts is a "key guy?"

Wow...
Probably with Keita leaving reading between lines.
Let's face it based on what we saw this year, there is not going to be a big drop-off if either Roberts or Keita are not back.

Seems like great news (I'll take it with a grain of salt though with this program's reputation). I was telling a friend that I thought if everyone returns minus Ponds, with all the transfers coming in , and the addition of an impact grad transfer or Precious (not happening), that I think this year's team could actually be better than last year's.

Losing Ponds will hurt, but at times I felt like they relied too heavily on him. The ball movement would stop and Ponds would pull up from half-court or attempt to drive it into 3 defenders. I think in particularly Heron, and also Simon, and LJ will thrive without him to be honest. Plus now we actually will have legitimate bigs, and hopefully some depth so our starters don't have to play 35 minutes every game.

I think adding Hsu and/or Borman would be a probably a best case scenario now coaching-wise. I personally want Mullin gone, but I guess I can live with adding one or two of those guys, and seeing what this team has next year. Maybe the sky isn't falling after all.....

Guys, why focus on Roberts? The real news here, to the extent Zach's info reliable, is that Heron, Simon & Williams are likely returning. That is clearly good news, if true.

He's a key guy for me, along with any other name to be honest. I legitimately thought our roster was going to be Figgy, Steere, and Caraher next year with no assistant around to fill six to 10 spots.

Edit: Whoops, keep forgetting Wright.

I've convinced myself that if Heron is back, it's because Borman already reached out to him.

Hopefully Figgy is a given.
If this is true, we could have a pretty good year.

Guards - Heron, Simon, Mack, Williams, Wright, Trimble
Forwards - LJ, Caraher, Earlington
Bigs - Steere, Manuel
Forgot to add Roberts.

Guards - Heron, Simon, Mack, Williams, Wright, Trimble
Forwards - LJ, Caraher, Earlington, Roberts
Bigs - Steere, Manuel

If that's the case we have one open scholarship unless there are more departures coming.

Would love to see them add a Jamal Branch type, backup PG to that mix. Could be the most balanced roster we've had during the Mullin era.

Roberts and Williams both showed signs of being superior on-ball defenders. We need that. I strongly support two recruiting AC model but do not discount what Chris and Mitch have to teach about what it feels like when your game is on versus when it is off... kinesthetic self-awareness. There were so many times when you could see shots were going to be off before they were released.

Think we tend to put Matt our lone recruiter as great. If he was that great he would have brought in better talent. Transfers are good but we need a recruiter who will bring in local top talent or should I say all members of the staff should be involved
Not saying that Matt did not to the best he could but the state our program is we need someone with connections that will bring in top 20 kids Top 100 are nice but it will take yrs getting a few game changers will make the diff I know easier said than done but it can be done
