Cragg and the SJU “Culture”

What coach “rips into” guys for bad shots? Ripping into players is almost exclusively reserved for lack of effort and poor sportsmanship.
This was a classic from Ewing two seasons ago...

I love this.....thanks for posting. Regardless of whether you agree with his delivery, Ewing's message is one our team needed. You take the shots you practice. No fancy improvised circus shots on game day. He's teaching disciplined basketball.
Which is exactly why I railed against the street ball we played early on in the season when we went up big against far inferior comp. Bad habits carry over from practice and from blowouts.

If true, love the Borman move. Coach K's nephew and ties to the NY Rens.
Andy Borman’s name has been out there a lot in last week. Heron, Tabor, Kuminga affiliation a potential plus one would assume.
Borman would be a HUGE get on a number of levels:
-Smart/savvy guy
-Duke/K pedigree
-Runs NY RENS
-Tight with Arbitello and other top NYC HS coaches
-NY and National connections.
-Someone who could potentially be groomed for HC position down the road

Feeling very good about this one. Fingers crossed.

That bed was made before he arrived. Under a magnifying glass they could only link him to giving someone gas money once and helping to re-word a paper. The fact the player didn’t have it entirely written for him almost qualifies Binghamton and Hsu for an award.

These issues have kept him from a head coaching gig. He’s literally better than all three assistants we had last year by himself.
Agree, Broadus was the orchestrator of that scandal. Binghamton takes academics very seriously.

Some posters seem to be feeling a bit more optimistic these days. Perhaps it's due to the rumors that we may land an exciting assistant coach or two.

As for me, I have little confidence in an unchecked Mullin. Like most of you, I hope someone will force or persuade Chris to make sensible decisions about the make-up and responsibilities of his staff. I also hope someone can impress upon Chris the full demands of his job.

I think we will know something about Cragg in the next few weeks. Honestly, I have no idea what to expect.

Agree he should be checked out, but his deeds, as described, ‘giving impermissible travel inducements to players’ do not seem like major violations.
But I hear you Andrew. We should do solid due diligence on Hsu and other hires.
Don’t need sanctions to put the kibash on future successs.
Just our luck.
Lol.

Definitely a name that could survive to another regime when and if it happens

I do worry about alienating other AAU teams. The HS connections might outweigh that hopefully

The ’ buzz’ on very solid to excellent new AC hires on the horizon is incredibly exciting to a fan base starved for good news.
Here’s hoping these hires are imminent happenings.
The timing is critical and I’m greedy.
Lol.

Haha! I hear 'ya on that one!

I hope, if this comes to fruition, Hsu and/or Borman can actually coach, too. Honestly, I'm not privy to their coaching chops. We certainly need a solid coach to come aboard.

I’m much more familiar with Hsu, but Borman’s bio looks good. He also has connections as a student and coach to IMG Academy.

A NY Rens pipeline would be amazing.

Two recruiter would be fantastic...especially if they can out the team ahead of themselves unlike the last duo.

I see Dinkins wearing a throwback #20 Mullin jersey next March in our southern region second round game three rows ahead of Mike Zaun and his buddy dressed like Rick Flair.

I figure we have little chance of landing Hsu and/or Borman because ......
We Are St. John's

Can't seem to help shooting ourselves in the foot.

Marc Hsu is a win at all costs kind of dude. A straight hustler.

The kind of guy you want on your side until the subpoena comes. Just. Fucking. Win.

A Florida guy. So the IMG connection makes sense.

Welcome to the dark side my friend.

Just. Fucking. WIn.

I don't care if we are the dirtiest school in the country.

Bruce Pearl has Auburn in the final 4. His past has gone from ratting on coaches to lying to the NCAA and telling his assistants to do so, to his assistant getting arrested by the FBI and him refusing to talk to his employers about it. Now he is in the final 4 and no one gives a shit. Give me 1000 Bruce Pearls, Pitinos, Hsu's.

Cheat to win. Just win.

I think you guys are playing with packed C-4 , likely out of maddening frustration about how far we’ve fallen and how long it’s been since ‘relevancy’.
So, I’m not gonna argue.
My 1 question about this imminent Staff overhaul is, does it include Mitch going back to his prior status or is Mitch returning as the 3rd AC.
That would signal as total a program cultural change as possible versus simply some great and necessary repositioning.

Not going to get too excited until we actually hire someone because as Knight so aptly points out We are St. John's. Having said that, would love to see these two guys join our staff - as others have said huge upgrade as both appear able to recruit and coach. Also love the fact they are pretty young with room to grow. I am going to take the optimistic view that if these names have surfaced negotiations are ongoing and something could be imminent, which is key given hourglass is running on spring recruiting and player shakeout.
Huge positive would be if CM & MC have met constructively and are developing a good working relationship going forward. Glass half full until shown half empty for me.

You know if look up Pitino's record in his last 6 seasons at Lville 4 seasons were completely vacated. 1 year they were ineligible and then his last year was untouched. Those vacated years were Final Four, Championship, Sweet 16 and Elite 8. My question is did he really 'win' when if you look now they are zeros? I mean I know the experience for the fans was seeing those teams win but did it really happen?
