Connecticut (MSG), Sat., Feb. 3, 12 NOON, FOX

He was trying to get his teammates involved in the second half and as usual none of them stepped up. If Jenkins shoots too much you bash him , if only takes 6 shots in a half you bash him. He’s the only player on this team with any guts! He should have taken 15 shots in the second half. We would have been better off.
Agreed, It is a real puzzle and a tribute to the theory that if someone says something enough times, the masses will believe it. Even in this thread, references to Jenkins, “warts and all” ; the only warts in Jenkins game is that he is only good, not great, a 2nd team All BE player, not an AA. I am not going to cite stats but anyone who watches the Johnnie’s play and doesn’t see that he is by far the Johnnie’s best player, BY FAR Just doesn’t know a thing about the game. There is no one else even in the conversation, Soriano gets stats but IMO, doesn’t pass ANY eye test, at least not any of mine.
I have said it before, without Jenkins we are DePaul or worse.

2011 might be the peak for my entire life as SJ fan. Meanwhile in 25 yrs other fanbases get pure bliss. You cannot say we aren’t cursed. You can go 5-5 in 10 big time games. You can’t go 0-10 & just lose each one.

My warts and all comment was a nod to the legitimate questions about the volume of his long range shooting at times. But i agree with everything you said there. And no one has shown anywhere near the heart, urgency or motor like he has.

I haven’t seen anyone comment about why Wilcher didn’t play. Is his comment related? I really really hope not

Pitino plays who he trusts. And his trust is a fickle thing. Make a mistake, sit. Make two mistakes, sit more. He does not seem to be in the mode of developing players via games.

Short on patience, I have been concerned it will bite him in the rear end in the modern world from the beginning. Not sure it will, but there was always a worry about hiring an old guy who has been out of the major college loop for years at a time when things are very much in flux and new skill sets are required.

As for today, we got beat by a better team with better guards, which has been our weakness all season. We aren't a top 10 team, that's your only takeaway from this game.

The question is if they can flush it or take positives from it and compete down the stretch of the season

Dingle biggest disappointment to me. Thought he was going to be the scorer on this team... Not even close!
Exactly....he was brought in to score and shoot yet he's 0 for his 11 3pt attempts...might as well kept Posh....Dingle is killing us...not going to win if we cant hit 3's, plain and simple

This game, while a disappointment, was better than I had feared. I feared a bloodbath. UConn is the #1 team in the country and the defending national champions. They have an elite level of talent and we just don’t.

I thought the atmosphere at MSG was good. It could have gotten very rowdy if we had mounted a comeback. Did anyone else notice that during the singing of the national anthem, there were chants of “Let’s go UConn”, followed by ”F*ck UConn!“ Lovely LOL

I get how you are feeling zaun. But don’t give up.

I’m a St. John’s, jets; Knicks, Mets fan. Zero championships in my entire life. Of course it’s easy to look around at like Boston/Connecticut fans and see the treasure trove of wins they’ve had the last 20 years.

But that doesn’t mean give up. Remember, even the patriots were pretty ass for a long time. All it takes sometimes is one regime to turn the corner. Don’t give up brother

The amount of passion this fanbase gives out compared to the joy & great results the fanbase receives…is at a scary level ratio wise. Especially if you’re like me & 2011 was the high water mark ever. You really have to wonder if the 80’s were just our one golden age & we will never get back to that or even 90’s. I’m honestly getting numb to this which is dangerous because I was numb to Mets & Jets both teams I used to watch religiously & spend lots of $ on…and I haven’t watched them regularly in years.

Ever the optimist, I will see this season as not-yet-over. Often we have our peak stretch in Feb. Maybe this year will come in March.
Hard to be optimistic with a team that is dead last in the BE from 3pt land....there are zero shooters on this team...Dingle is the biggest dissapinment and is Stef Smith 2.0...a mid-major guard who cant compete with top level talent sadly

Interesting and concerning quotes there. Much different from his “we’re coming” statements as recently as last week.

Also, the “everybody leaves” part foreshadowing to 3 months from now?

Those post game comments are a very different tone from Pitino, hard to tell if it's shear frustration/thinking out loud or if he already knows some players heading for the door. I'd love to see Zuby, Dunlap, and Wilcher stick it out.

I have talked to a fair amount of hoop lifers who think Pitino type coaching, system, developmental coaches, are in a very tough, in fact, maybe an impossible situation.

That’s fine, you are entitled to your opinion, I guess the never ending nit picking criticism of Jenkins has gotten to me.

I agree with the Soriano criticisms by most of the posters. Soriano played 33 minutes and had 6 points, 4 rebounds and 1 block. Clingan only played 16 minutes and had 5 points, 5 rebounds and 2 blocks. Soriano was 2-6 from the field and 2-5 from the free throw line. He was handed a gift today and he literally dropped the ball. He excels against 6'8" mid major centers but consistently gets outplayed by high major centers. He seems like a nice kid but his hands are weak, his reactions are slow and he rarely if ever passes the ball to an open man when he is either double teamed or out of position.

He had a better season last year under CMA.

how the hell was dingle going to workouts and was on the verge of going pro. He's one of the biggest busts I've seen at St. Johns in recent memory.
Agreed...its laughable to think he had pro aspirations...he's shooting worse then Posh from 3...0 for his last 11!

Most people, including myself, overestimated the talent on this roster and underestimated how long the St. John’s rebuild will take.
And I blame that on Pitino’s press conference. I interpreted “St John’s will be back and it’s going to happen FAST” to mean this year. Common sense on my part should have dictated otherwise.
