College Football Stuff

I try to call it as I see it but as far as jumping ship, no way, I am a Johnnies fan, period, end of story. Met fan and Rutgers football fan (I know and like Schiano), UConn WBB fan (knew Chris Dailey when she was at Rutgers) so outside of the Auriemmas I have known rooting misery for too long to quit now.
And to show my “objectivity” Schiano pulled the most boneheaded coaching call I’ve ever seen this weekend to give up a 43 yard TD pass on a 4th and 13 from the RU 40 with 12 seconds left up a point. And it was not a Hail Mary. And yes, my rating of the call includes the Giants “The Fumble”!
And to add, he tried to pawn it off at the post game with a BS story rivaling Pitino’s “needed more shooting”

Schiano called the timeout to try to ice the Illinois kicker who was attempting about a 58 yard field goal into a gusty winds. He was granted the timeout but the kicker kicked it anyway and it was way short of the distance.

After the timeout, Illinois sent out the offense and down went Rutgers.

The Illinois offense vs. the Rutgers field goal unit, since RU was unprepared for Illinois changing squads and never switched personnel on the field. Confusion ruled and Illinois scored a TD on the play.

They gotta fix the byes. Make it for conference champions or regular season champs. That is a brutal path for Oregon.
Had to be a brutal watch for die hard Tide fans. They really dragged out the whole announcement. I’m sure @bamafan went through the ringer watching that.

I’m really happy I’m just a casual college football fan because between that and Soto watch, I think I’d have an anxiety attack

Wasn’t optimistic until they ranked Clemson at 16 and I figured SMU with no big wins lost to a team ranked 16 which wouldn’t seem to give them what they needed but hey no complaints. I actually would have Clemson ranked higher they didn’t move up at all after beating the number 8 team to win the conference. Missing playoff will just make everyone work harder for next season.

Every metric was in Bama’s favor over SMU. In the end losses to Vandy and Oklahoma did them in. Comparable to our losses last season to Michigan and BC.

And for those like Booger McFarland who say they favor the big brand of Alabama and those that say they pick to get big TV ratings they passed on a stand alone Friday night match up of ND-Bama.

Metrics mean squat as SMU gets in over Alabama. Yes they have 3 losses but SMU beat no one in the watered down ACC.

I agree the ACC is watered down. But my counter argument is SMU was undefeated in conference and it would be difficult to penalize them for losing in their conference championship on a last second FG bomb.

Then why have conference championship games, especially now that the top two teams make it, since doing way with the divisions.

Whatever. As long as ND or Oregon do not win. But I will root for a Boise State-TN final.

The crazy thing is it’s just not about the relative strength of the conferences but because of the amount of teams in the conferences today it’s who did you play within your conference. For instance Indiana played 6 of 7 bottom teams in the 18 team BIG 10 and SMU didn’t have to play Clemson or Miami.

In a way I think it was a makeup call by the committee for excluding 13-0 ACC champ Florida State last year.
