Coaching Changes

South Florida can't be happy with investigations and losing records.

Would we be interested in Santos if he left, or are we above him roster-wise by now?

He is big but not a very talented basketball player. The only guys I would take as transfers are starters and stars and not slow 8th man on a shitty team. Call me picky. ;)

Santos was one of Oliver Antigua's kids. Like Delgado went to the Hall because of Antigua, Santos was going to USF.

Antigua out at South Florida

Good thing that (a) we've won a few games lately, and (b) we don't have a known ongoing academic scandal going on, otherwise, given this extended Jeff Goodman tweet, we'd all have justification to ask the "Fire Mullin"? questions again.

Per Goodman:

Orlando Antigua was fired for a lack of wins, but the ongoing NCAA investigation into academic fraud -- which ultimately led to his brother Oliver's departure back in July -- obviously played into the decision to be let go. One source close to Antigua said that his staff -- with his brother and Rod Strickland -- was a big issue. "Way too inexperienced," the source said. "And they had all these guys from New York on staff -- and didn't sign kids from New York."

Their roster includes three NYC kids: Isaiah Manderson (6'10" jr.) and Luis Santos (6'9" soph), both from the Bronx, and Troy Holston (6'4" soph) from Queens.
Weren't we on Santos at one point? What's the rules when transferring when a Coach is fired? Can they play right away?

Yes on Santos from St. Rays.

I believe normal transfer rules stand.

Oliver A also coached Santos w Dominican Republic basketball.

Seton Hall had recruited Santos, and given the DR connection to Delgado, wouldn't be surprised to see him having interest in the Hall.

Possibly. But remember the Hall recruitment was connected to Antigua being an assistant. When he left, the Hall wasn't getting him, just like the Hall wasn't getting Delgado without Antigua. Have no idea if Antigua left the Hall on good terms.

Wasn't thinking of Antigua, rather that Delgado seems very happy at the Hall, has had a productive career there, and that he might be able to use the DR connection to lure Santos to South Orange should he decide to transfer following Antigua's firing.

Those three straight losses to us, including that pasting in December just may have pushed him over the edge. :p

He's going to say this for the next ten years and return every time. Hopkins will be collecting social security before he coaches that team

With all he coaching changes , committed recruites will open up at the end of the season. Maybe a quality C won't want to play w the new coach.

Correct and our smart staff is very aware of this. As opposed to just grabbing any available 2 or 3 star body let's see who becomes available from now to May 15 th. They picked up 2 High quality transfers last spring perhaps they will do the same again I am confident they are not asleep at the switch.

He is the Hyman Roth of college coaches.

Very true. Developed into a really nice player -- excellent D and more offense that folks predicted.

Our closers have done a pretty good job post Rivera too. I think we've had an All Star type player basically every year in that role.

Cuse fans aren't sold on Hopkins. Following a legend always sucks.

Didi's doing a nice job :)

Absolutely RMN
Not asleep

they merit our trust in the recruiting realm!
No need to second guess
