Coaching Changes

This is worthy of a Twilight Zone episode but if Pitino is going to leave Louisville maybe he would consider Rutgers.

Give him an opportunity to finish his career in The Metropolitan area

Granted he has some baggage (OK, a lot of baggage) to say the least, but stranger things have happened.

Coming back to reality would think Pikiel would make more sense than Cleuss especially if his mentor Jim Calhoun thought it was a good career move. Although this may be a big "IF".

There's a lot to be said for coaching at a state university although Rutgers turns this thought on its head.

Pitino has to be making at least $5MM per year. Unless the state throws in part ownership of Monmoth Park (and they don't own it) he won't take the pay cut.
 
Rutgers appears to be in a rough situation in its coaching selection. Just like SJU last year hiring a coach in March means a bad first year and they seem to be so far behind most of the Big 10 it is not a position for a elderly coach having years of rebuilding facing him..
They also have to be careful of the candidates character after Rice. Cluess might be the guy but I believe he is older than people think. The Stoney Brook coach or an ass't coach might be a better choice.

I think Pitino would rather finish his career by throwing himself in front of an oncoming A train.
 
what if rutgers broke the bank and offered calhoun 4 and 20 million with pikhiell as his assistant head coach to take over and give him 750k as an assistant

I'd leave stony brook for that since it would be an upgrade in salary even though you lose the photo ops with the Austour family tree and if I was Calhoun how do you not take 1 more shot for 20 million

He's never leaving that place. And he could barely get through a full season in his final years.

I heard a rumor on the other board that they are taking a long look at the weatherman. He is already putting out feelers to ensure he can build an A+ staff and has Paultzman as his top recruiter.

This could be devastating for section 114. We are going to need to entice Kranmar to return to row 19 and to the seat next to Ralph.

He has a lot of experience and is an outstanding recruiter
He should be the choice - no brainer to me
 
Probably should go with an assistant who knows the program and the conference. Also think Pikiell understands the area pretty well. Warner was from Roselle Catholic.
 
Pikiell got 1.6M per for five years with hot tub privileges with Chris Christie.
