Coaching Carousel

If he ever truly got the itch again I think he'd be here. Ohio State would be great place for him but he's not going that far from home for a job.
He's most definitely not coming back to college at least for a while. I totally could see him in NBA especially seeing how well his guys play and he sees that ( that's mjmaherjr acting like he knows his every thought )

Don't think Knicks or 76ers jobs open soon, so I think he stays in the studio for a while. I have this fantasy that just as Pitino is winding down Jay gets the itch. He's the type of guy alumni and NIL collectives want to throw money at.

If I'm Ohio State, I'd offer a crazy amount of money just so he thinks about it for a while.

as a st johns fan when you say " itch " that has classof2010 all over it

I wonder if the next coach at Washington will be someone who more aligns with the style of Big 10 ball as opposed to Pac 12 ball.

Really impressed with Kyle Smith at Wazzu and with the uncertainty of Pac-12 at this point (which already cost him his top recruit and some key transfers off his team) would he want to stay in Washington and coach in B10?

Ever wonder if any team would ever take a shot with Mike Anderson? I wouldn't be surprised if a mid major came calling. As well he never had a losing season lol

Never say never I suppose, but I truly think anyone who was actually privy to this news would know to keep their mouths shut when it's still February.
I did search and there are rumors he is one of many. But way too early. I wouldn't be surprised as he is from this area, but taking over a dead DePaul program is a tough one . Then again Rick did take over and revive our program so it's possible

For High Major jobs, Ohio St and DePaul are already open. 3 more are all but guaranteed to open; West Virginia (the interim coach will not tbe retained), Washington(Hop is toast) and Louisville (Payne has been toast since November).

Couple of potential ones. Sounds like Stanford is ready to move on from Haase. Oklahoma St and Mike Boynton could be headed to a parting. Clemson is starting to falter and Brad Brownell has always done just enough to hold onto that job. But after just missing last year if they miss this year especially after the good start he maybe out of rope there.

Biggest job question is MIchigan-Juwan Howard. Program has been on a slide since B!0 regular season and no. 1 seed in 2021. Barely got in Tourney in 2022 did make run to Sweet 16 after a mediocre regular season. Then last year missed and this year been a complete disaster after decent start. John Bacon who is a long time Michigan historian and "insider" tweeted out earlier this week that he thinks Warde Manual, the AD at UM, will give Juwan another year:

Listen the only important part of the carousel is the none zero chance that Wayne Tinkle is replaced by Danny Sprinkle!
Utah State to Oregon State might be a lateral move since Oregon State lost the game of conference musical chairs and Sprinkle is getting the Washington job anyway. Somehow, Tinkle might get another season

Friend of mine who's a big Michigan fan told me other day Howard will be back. Shocked the hell out of me.

Haase has some very powerful backers, but even billionaires know when it's time.

Michigan must still be giddy over winning the college football national championship because they are not thinking straight.

Howard owes Harbaugh a few steak dinners for saving his job.

Funny too because Michigan might have a legit reason to fire Howard for Cause and not even have to pay him off.

Remember he was suspended 2 years ago for the slapping incident in the handshake line with a Wisconsin Ass't. He was not fired but was put under a ZERO tolerance policy. Similar to Knight at Indiana. There was an incident this past December with the S&C coach at Michigan involving Howard. Michigan investigated and no further action was taken. But the S&C coach stopped working with the basketball program and just resigned.

If Michigan wanted it out this may provide it.

Grass isn’t always greener. Chris Mack had it rolling at Xavier, didn’t last long at Louisville. Chris Holtman had a good thing going at Butler and while he had some good years at Ohio St early on, he didn’t get a very long leash. Kevin Willard had a great run at Seton Hall and while he’s been decent at Maryland two years in I would guess that if they don’t take a major step up next year Terp fans will start to turn on him
Very bad loss for Maryland at home Vs Indiana on National TV yesterday .
Mgbako had a very good game for IU .
Terps self destructed down the stretch . It wasn’t pretty .

Two others that may open.

Leonard Hamilton at FSU, might be time for him to resign/retire.

And lots of talk with Dana Altman at Oregon. Maybe retiring. That program has flatlined after some very good years there.

The only green those coaches were going for were not grass, it was the money. Successful or not, their respective buy outs are more than many make in a life time.🤪
